News Archive for Mar 2012 By  Gomin Dayasri                      There is a time to criticize and a time to be constructive. Country is being systematically throttled with a lasso thrownaround its neck by an alien fist. Reconstruct is the proper term. Lets stand firm and heave the wretched curse of the albatross stuck around our neck andbreathe again like a free nation.Country is in the dock withthe men who won the war, providing the space to inhale freely, being targeted by the West for punishment and by India designingto bring the full impact of its fissiparous 13 Amendment. The stance taken by the proponents of 13A seems to be that nothing in the country will succeed unless and until 13A is implemented fully, and that once it is done, the island nation would flow in milk and... -Full Story- (LankaWeb - 31/03/12)
Shenali Waduge In a country as small as Sri Lanka where over 14.8m of the 20m population are Sinhalese and possibly less than 10% are Sri Lankan Tamils, a question never answered is what are these grievances that the Sri Lankan Tamils finds exclusively to be theirs and how much of these grievances are relevant to the present.  We need to first identify how many of these oft-quoted Tamil grievances are now non-existent though quoted for convenience, how many of these grievances are being quoted by those living overseas who have no understanding of what the Tamils in... -Full Story- (LankaWeb - 31/03/12)

By Victor Kotsev Amid the ever-growing diplomatic noise and military buildup in the Persian Gulf, a key issue has received insufficient attention: the dual problem of possible radioactive contamination and civilian casualties resulting from an operation against Iran. Strikes on nuclear facilities carry enormous stigma; those directed at peaceful installations, specifically, are considered a grave violation of international law. Although a persuasive legal argument could be made that the Iranian nuclear program is anything but civilian (something that the Islamic Republic denies), many of the moral constraints against attacking installations loaded with thousands of tons of dangerous... -Full Story- (atimes.com - 29/03/12)

War porn took the limelight on the evening of September 11, 2001, when the George W Bush administration launched the "war on terror" - which was interpreted by many of its practitioners as a subtle legitimization of United States state terror against, predominantly, Muslims. Dr Ruwan M Jayatunge  Abstract     Using children in armed conflicts has been reported in many countries around the world. Various rebel groups in Africa, Asia and Latin America exploit children in their armed struggles against their respective regimes. Often these children are kidnaped from their parents and indoctrinated, given brief training and along with the adult rebel carders, sent to fight with the fully trained, fully equipped government forces. Many child solders get killed in the war. Those who survive suffer deep physical and psychological traumas. These traumas affect their social and cognitive development. Sri Lanka was one of... -Full Story- (LankaWeb - 28/03/12)
Asada M Erpini The media on 26 March carried a statement by Prof. G.L. Peiris that Sri Lanka will reject the resolution that was adopted at the UNHCR sessions in Geneva on 22 March. The statement is one of the most decisive and firm responses to the intrusive resolution that was spearheaded by the US, a country that has no moral right whatsoever to accuse Sri Lanka of human rights violations. Thursday’s vote marks a sharp departure from India’s long-standing principle of not voting in favour of country-specific resolutions at the UNHRC. By Charles.S.Perera  What America tries to enact by its resolution  against Sri Lanka is virtually the elimination of the role of the UNO with its Security Council Sanctions, to enable for it to intervene along with its western allies to  interfere into the internal affairs of the Sovereign States of the Developing countries.  Therefore the African countries still not decided about the vote on the 23rd March, in Geneva on the resolution of America have to wake up before it is too late to stop the manoeuvres of America to facilitate the implementation of  its new “doctrine†of regime... -Full Story- (LankaWeb - 21/03/12)
Shenali Waduge The spate of civil unrest that was artfully staged to create regime change throughout Middle East and other parts of the world has been somewhat hard to come by for foreign intelligence coup operators in Sri Lanka. It is because these countries have vested faith and money in local mouthpieces that locals know to be misfits of society who are being paid to vocalize gibberish. Janaki Chandraratna Perth, Australia The United States backed UNHRC resolution against Sri Lanka was recently amended with the intention of appeasing the prevailing attitude of delegates to the original draft. In presenting the amended version, Donahue stressed the continued ‘solemn desire’ to assist GoSL to achieve its own LLRC report recommendations and provided an option for non members to be co-sponsors so that US backers like Britain, Canada and Australia can be actively involved with the resolution.  The amendments were only cosmetic mainly to soften the earlier approach and did not alter the original content in any significant... -Full Story- (LankaWeb - 13/03/12)

Ajit Randeniya A columnist for the progressive Israeli newspaper Haaretz, Israel Harel recently made the point that the instinctive and uncontrolled ‘hatred’ of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu amongst Israelis prevents a rational discussion of a possible military attack on Iran. The primary observation that Netanyahu is a ‘hated’ figure in Israel, made albeit in the context of Harel’s support for Netanyahu’s conduct during the recent US visit, is a valid one: people dislike him intensely due to his arrogant warmongering and his blatant disregard for human life; his belligerent ‘war talk’ during the US visit last week further contributed... -Full Story- (LankaWeb - 11/03/12)
