There are media reports that the LTTE activists in the West are moving to push for a referendum in the North and East of Sri Lanka for a re-merger of the two provinces. If the UNHRC doesn’t accept the LLRC Report completely, it should be dumped and a fresh process should initiate. The LLRC report has its own balance and wholeness which can be retained only if it is accepted fully. The United States backed UNHRC resolution against Sri Lanka was recently amended with the intention of appeasing the prevailing attitude of delegates to the original draft. Charge laid in massive human smuggling operation
A large-scale human smuggling incident in B.C. that saw nearly 500 illegal immigrants enter the country on a cargo ship has resulted in charges against a Sri Lankan man, who remains at large. Woman fined 8 cents for prostitution in Lanka
A Chinese woman who pleaded guilty to prostitution was fined Rs10 (eight US cents) by a magistrate in Sri Lanka, the maximum punishment under an 1841 law, a report said yesterday. The woman was arrested and charged under the British colonial-era Vagrants Ordinance against prostitution, the Colombo-based Financial Times newspaper said. “After taking into consideration the provisions (of the law) Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne ordered her to pay a fine of Rs10,†the paper reported. The Thirteenth Amendment, and whatever that comes after that, is the catch phrase for solving all the problems of Sri Lanka, or so it seems to the TNA and its supporters of all colours based in the affluent countries. Self-appointed revolutionaries shooting people in the streets – Homs eyewitness
People have been left without water or electricity as rebels destroy water pumps and power converters. Civilians are forced to stay inside as snipers shoot from the rooftops. Syrian rebels pull out of besieged Homs
Syrian rebels have been ejected from the Baba Amr district of Homs, promising revenge as they retreat. Syrian authorities allow humanitarian aid to those left in need in the city is to be delivered Friday. Most rebel troops were pushed out of the area by President Assad’s forces on Thursday, AP reports. SriLankan Airlines recently awarded 'Wings' to a batch of cadet pilots after a stringent training programme. They obtained the CAASL licence (Civil Aviation Authority), a globally recognised certification. US holds back anti-SL resolution in Geneva
