 Media reports dated 30 March mention that Mr. Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister of India will discuss with his Minister of External Affairs the issue of his participation at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), to be held in Colombo later in the year.  Traditionally, Sufism or the Sufi Muslim ideology had been the predominant Islamic spiritual tradition observed throughout Southern Asia, including Sri Lanka. Sufism is considered to be the mystical, ascetic branch of Islam which emphasizes personal experience with Allah. Sufis can be members of either the Sunni or Shi’a divisions of Islam who share most of the basic principles of Islam. These two divisions stemmed from ancient political strife among Muslims. There comes a time when tough actions need to be taken in the interest of the country. Inaction leads to dire consequences - 30 years of LTTE terror is what happened. Although rumours abound on the tense situation created by an attack on a textile shop in Pepiliyana by an unruly mob on Thursday night, the root cause of the incident was a personal dispute, said Police Spokesman SP Buddhika Siriwardena. The recent racism boilover in Tamil Nadu teaches us many things. It is how Sri Lanka will be after meaningful power devolution. It is believed Eric Soheim was instrumental in creating the separate state of South  Sudan. India with 1.2billion population of whom 82% are Hindus may be unaware of who owns and controls its media in the world’s largest democracy. Hindu India will be surprised to what extent since the open economy and despite laws in place its media is controlled by non-Hindus and the Church while Hindus are content being mesmerized with Bollywood or watching the Mahabharata on television. The recent Geneva Resolutions against Sri Lanka, instigated by the US and India, have been designed to enforce the 13th amendment fully. The 13th amendment was enacted in 1987 by the then President, JR Jayewardene; at that time he failed to hold a referendum to seek the consensus of the masses - as required by the Constitution. After the UNHRC vote, the US State Dept Spokeswoman, Victoria Nuland, had said that Sri Lanka should listen to the international community. But she had not specified who this international community is. The United Nations Human Rights Council on 21 Thursday adopted the US sponsored resolution against Sri Lanka. Say No to Unilateral ‘Accountability’

Islamic activists have attacked dozens of Hindu temples and hundreds of homes across Bangladesh since an Islamist leader was sentenced to death for war crimes last month, a Hindu group said yesterday. China's Exim Bank has agreed to lend Sri Lanka 200 million U.S. dollars to finance a railway project, the Finance Ministry said in a statement here on Monday. UNHRC has been ridiculed by many UN members over its short life span. The conduct of UNHRC violates the UN Charter on members and as a result it has become ineffective. Unlike the UN or the UN Security Council, the UNHRC cannot impose any real punitive measures on any country. A group of Buddhist monks from the Buddhist pressure group "Bodu Bala Sena" stormed a Colombo abattoir today and found that the meat being distributed from the location is from animals slaughtered without a license in the other part of the Island. The monks claimed that the meat of over 300 animals which had been slaughtered illegally including water buffaloes were being sent out to shops from the Dematagoda premises as halal certified. Sri Lanka strongly protests against the organizers of an event at which the so-called Channel 4 documentary No fire zone: the killing fields of Sri Lanka is being screened at the UNHRC in Geneva, Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative to the UN Human Rights Commission stated in a press release from that city, yesterday (March 1). The government will implement a national policy on Arsenic, after the final report of the Parliamentary Committee appointed to look into the Arsenic issue is recieved, Agriculture Ministry Secretary W Sakalasooriya said. He was responding to the Daily News, making reference to a press conference held earlier in the day by the Pivithuru Hetak Organisation which alleged that the government has not taken measures to strengthen the law to take action against companies importing agrochemicals. Mounting evidence show, that the United State’s intention to bring down Sri Lanka at UNHRC with another resolution is an eye washer to divert global attention from its own sins. As a draft resolution on accountability in Sri Lanka does the rounds preparatory to being tabled by the United States in the current session of the Human Rights Council, the outcome that India may be hoping for most is that it will be adopted as a consensus document and no voting will be required. That way, India will not need to take a position for or against the resolution. But it all depends on Sri Lanka.
