News Archive for May 2009 S. Akurugoda. Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka addressing the mass rally at the Parliament grounds called upon to appoint a Presidential Commission to probe the activities of the LTTE and its shocking caches of sophisticated arms and ammunition. During the humanitarian operation and thereafter, the Security Forces exposed the magnitude of the LTTE's underground arsenal and said to have in the process of further investigation to gather proof of evidence to probe the link between the outfit and its local and foreign promoters. As the Prime Minister quite correctly identified time has come for all those who are genuinely... -Full Story- (LankaWeb - 31/05/09) Ajit Randeniya Following the failure of the lie-based "20000 civilian casualties in Sri Lanka" campaign to produce the impact they hoped for, the Murdoch-owned Times has now sunk even deeper in the foul smelling mire they created. In an apparent attempt to ‘explain' their lie, they posted on their website (on 30 May), two of the all-revealing (not!) photographs they boasted about - with a voice-over by the foreign editor- and an article by a woman named Catherine Phillp; the article contains an attempted explanation of the very creative accounting process they undertook to arrive at this magical figure... -Full Story- (LankaWeb - 31/05/09)
Ganesha David Dear Sir You are living in Sri Lanka. Did it really look to you that our Government went about shooting people. There may have been people caught in between but are you so backward not to recognize the difference between sentiment and intent ? Is it humanly possible for a Government to think they can cold-bloodedly kill people in plain view and get away. What is this persecution? The ending of this war is the best thing that happened to Sri Lanka and the region per se. Why are you hell bent on destroying the good that... -Full Story- (LankaWeb - 31/05/09)

Bandula Kothalawala London N7 British diplomats, licking their self-inflicted wounds from the 11th Special Session of the UN Human Rights Council on Sri Lanka, must have felt a tremendous sense of relief to learn that a pack of hyenas from the British media have already pounced on their elusive quarry. The Times, after detailed research backed by experts, ably assisted by the BBC and Channel 4, supported by human rights groups, has finally arrived at the true figure of civilian casualties in the war in Sri Lanka. By Dr.Levins T.C.Rajaratnam* The Universal Declaration on Human Rights is not limited in scope to ensuring the observance of human rights by Governments alone. The Declaration has a far wider purpose: the observance of human rights by all governmental and non-governmental alike. Article 3 of the Universal Declaration, which requires that everyone has the right to life; and the provisions of article 30 of the Declaration prescribes that: "Nothing in this Declaration may be interpreted as implying for any State, group or person any right to engage in any activity or to perform any act aimed at the destruction... -Full Story- (LankaWeb - 30/05/09)

Lalin Fernando Kalubowila, Dehiwala 10350 Sri Lanka 1. Introduction The contract between the soldier and the state is unique. It is ‘You must do your duty even at the cost of your life. If you should die in doing your duty the state will look after your wife and children’. Despite this in 1983 when 13 soldiers were killed in Jaffna, the Defence Ministry and the Army did not know how, when and where to bury them. What followed is history. The conflict has left about 30,000 troops dead, (6000 in the last 2.5 years) double that wounded (29,000... -Full Story- (LankaWeb - 30/05/09)

It is becoming obvious-by-the-day that the so-called UN representatives in Sri Lanka, Neil Bhune Gordon Weiss and ICRC's Paul Castellano are not UN employees at all. They may be getting paid by the UN (yes, those fat UN salaries), but they are really serving the cabals that run the European and US governments, and are trying to implement their "Protocols" using UN cover., Their current campaign of passing on information to Western media shows that they have launched a subterranean attack against the Sri... -Full Story- (LankaWeb - 30/05/09)

Dr.P.A.Samaraweera Last week at the 62nd General Assemly of the World Health Organisation Israel had brought forward a proposal calling for the UN and WHO to send a high profile team to investigate into Human Rights violations by the Sri Lankan government under the pretext of launching war on terrorism. This had been defeated by the strong support given to Sri Lanka by Russia, China, Japan and others. ALI SUKHANVER Once my grandma baked a cake, covered it with a lid and put it in the kitchen window for drying. I still remember her crying, "Be vigilant, the rats might drag the cake to their hole." Now, when I am a grown up man, I hear the ‘grandpa' crying, "Be vigilant, the terrorists might run away with your nuclear program." All Sri lankan misunderstood about china’s statement Came from west. The word "sincere" was popularly used by American and Indian referred to 1983 American sponsored Indian spy peace accord to legally claim half of Sri lanka land for Tamil. It is rather sad that our diplomats have failed to communicate the truth to the world, and have allowed LTTE propaganda to win. ALI SUKHANVER A room cannot be called a bed-room without a bed. River without water, a flower without fragrance and a brain without ideology; all are same as a body without soul. For a Muslim, Jihad is like the blood running in the veins .The western world is defaming this most important element of the Islamic teachings by intermingling it with violence and aggression. Jihad is in fact a very delicate and subtle type of lesson in the book of Islam. Ajit Randeniya There is little point in harping about the latest disgraceful and conspiratorial propaganda campaign of Gordon Weiss (an NGO white-ant that burrowed his way in to the UN) and the Western media over the last week. This time they clearly decided to use the ‘assumed’ credibility of the UN through Weiss’ cover: the deception did not work at the Security Council.  The broader public of the world including those in the West are used to these periodically shifting ‘shock, horror’ campaigns of these thieves, and their efforts are unlikely to succeed. By Charles.S.Perera  There was a time when USSR was still a Union of Socialist States defying the West, the Russian dissidents of USSR were the winners  of  Noble Laureates. The world was then divided into two camps the Socialism lead by Russia and Capitalism lead by America. To be recognised in the capitalist west it was enough to attack Socialism in written or audio visual media.  The Russian dissident   and those seeking asylum in the West were acclaimed by the “free world†as heroes .  Eventually that helped the “free worldâ€Â i.e the Capitalist world to  break up USSR. ... -Full Story- (LankaWeb - 11/05/09)
Dr.Levins T.C.Rajaratnam The duly elected Executive President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, President Mahinda Rajapakse, as the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces has taken the correct decision as he is morally and legally bound to protect his subjects from all forms of terror. It is in this connection that President Mahinda Rajapakse has rightly liberated the Tamil people who have been in bondage in the North. The Exodus is like Moses giving freedom to the Jews from Egypt. Tilak Dias , Ph.D. Wall Street Journal reported on May 05, 2009, that U.S air strikes had killed dozens of civilians in Afghanistan.  This was attributed to the bombing runs carried out by U.S. led-coalition jets. The real number is not dozens but over a hundred according to Abdul Basir Khan, a member of the provincial council of Farah province. The villagers have brought bodies of men, women and children, which were mutilated beyond recognition and even difficult to count. However, the surviving villagers have counted over 100 dead bodies and transported several truckloads of wounded civilians to... -Full Story- (LankaWeb - 10/05/09)
