‘Climate change affecting rubber output'

An international workshop on climate change and rubber cultivation was inaugurated by Mr Sajen Peter, Chairman, Rubber Board, in the presence of scientists and researchers from ten countries, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, China and Cambodia, at the Rubber Research Institute of India (RRII), Kottayam. Man who set himself on fire dies
A man who set himself on fire near the headquarters of Sri Lanka’s main opposition party died of his injuries yesterday, a hospital spokesman said. The man, identified as Reinzie Algama, immolated himself on Monday to protest moves to remove the current leader of the United National Party (UNP), Ranil Wickremesinghe, from his position. Bogus asylum seekers sailing to Canada - 'Good luck, Canada'!

In  Oct. 2009, asylum seekers were in the news. A boat carrying 250 people were intercepted by the Indonesian Navy on the advise of Australia. The same week two vessels with 270  en route to Australia were in distress and were rescued by Malaysian and Indonesian authorities.   The passengers were all Tamil and children speaking fluent English before TV cameras said that for years they were hiding in the jungles of Sri Lanka due to the war. Wikileaks Afghanistan: leak inquiry centres on US intelligence analyst

The investigation into the biggest leak in US military history centres on a US Army intelligence analyst who allegedly boasting online that he was going to.Bradley Manning, 22, was arrested in Baghdad in May and charged earlier this month with multiple counts of mishandling and leaking classified data, after a computer hacker turned him in. Conch shell smugglers caught by Sri Lanka Navy

Sri Lanka Navy nabs two smugglers of conch shells in the seas north of Thalaimannar, North West of Sri Lanka recently. All bacteria tested, including Bacillus subtilis, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, extended-spectrum β-lactamase producing Escherichia coli, ciprofloxacin-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium, were killed by 10–20% (v/v) honey, whereas 40% (v/v) of a honey-equivalent sugar solution was required for similar activity. The Sri Lanka Executive Council of the Commonwealth Parliamentary MP's have decided that Sarath Fonseka who had been nominated to tour Kenya to attend the Commonwealth Parliamentary conference be omitted from the tour. The reason is that if he goes to Kenya he will not return to Sri Lanka.
