SL judicial system isn’t equipped to probe war crimes: ZeidUN Human Rights Chief Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein justifying the OISL report recommendation for a hybrid special court to address accountability issues in Sri Lanka, said the domestic judicial system is not equipped to conduct an investigation into the crimes listed in the findings. Ekneligoda disappearence - Wives of detained military intelligence officers file Habeas Corpus application
The Court of Appeal yesterday issued notice on Director CID and six others to be present in Court on October 9, 2015 or be represented by a counsel. The notice is in respect of the Habeas Corpus applications, filed by the wives of four officers comprising four personnel, including a corporal, who had been arrested and detained in respect of the disappearance of Media person Pradeep Ekneligoda. Why has the GOSL not translated the Geneva Resolution to Sinhala?
The West has helped deliver democracy to Sri Lanka via its new found partner in the present government. What is puzzling is the manner in which the GOSL has agreed to become co-partner of the resolution. The question is on what grounds has the GOSL agreed to co-sponsor the resolution and more importantly why has the Sri Lankan public not being kept abreast of the contents of the resolution. As a series of unexpected transfers at Sri Lanka’s Central Bank were effected at the banking regulator causing uncertainty amongst officers on Tuesday, more transfers were likely to be put in place in coming days, informed sources said. A resolution calling for a “credible justice process” with “Commonwealth and other foreign judges” in order to prosecute for mass atrocities committed during the final stages of the island’s armed conflict has been tabled at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. UNHRC report is out. It recommends Sri Lanka comply with its dictates. However, if Sri Lanka refuses to comply with them and disregards all dictates, nothing will happen. UNHRC cannot enforce its decisions as Sri Lanka is not a party to the Rome Statute and doesn’t come under the International Criminal Court. Atrocities Against Dalits High in Tamil Nadu, Claims NCSC

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has introduced a circular last night (14 September) preventing the purchase of vehicles on a 100 per cent or ‘Full Lease’ or ‘Hire Purchase’ basis without any initial down payments, in a bid to reduce the number of vehicles on Sri Lanka’s roads. Sri Lanka foreign reserves drop to US$6.466bn in August 2015
ECONOMYNEXT - Sri Lanka's forex reserves had dropped 420 million US dollars to 6,466 million US dollars by end August 2015, down from 6,887.22 billion in July, amid continued sterilized forex sales, official data show. Without 400 million US dollar swap from the Reserve Bank of India, foreign reserves are down 34 percent from a peak of 9,185 million US dollar in August 2014. Sri Lanka’s rupee currency fell over 3 percent to trade at a record low of 139.00 per dollar on Friday after the central bank effectively floated the currency by ceasing to quote its own reference rate. Why this is the best time to repeal PTA? PTA more dangerous than emergency laws
Campaign for Free and fair Election (CaFFE) believes that Sri Lanka can’t become a nation with a rule of law until the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) is abolished as it has the same suppressive powers of Emergency Laws which were lifted in 2011. The PTA effectively makes all the provisions of the ICCPR invalid. What is more concerting is the fact that PTA has now become a part of Sri Lankan laws. The 19 Amendment is a total fraud on the people who wanted a different government to that of Mahinda Rajapaksa. To be different from Rajapaksa, immunity allowed for a President had to be removed completely to begin with. That was quite consciously dropped.
