Rift Within The LTTE Needs To Be Viewed Positively By Sri Lanka Despite Some Negative Fallout.

Call it Deja Vue, Nemesis or the unfolding of Destiny, whatever the definition the remarkable rift within the LTTE which is appearing to be larger than life may be the initial crack within the internationally outlawed terror group towards their own self destruction and should be viewed positively by Sri Lanka albeit a combination of positive and negative fallout. Positive in that it may project deep dissention and animosity within the split factions within their rank and file which has already initiated early turbulence and confusion. It has been reported that the parallel administration run by Tamil Tiger rebels in eastern Sri Lanka was in disarray following a split in the guerrilla leadership by reliable sources as an aftermath of the Pirapaharan - Karuna split which could be the beginning of their ultimate demise. Negative purely by way of the unnecessary deviations the Administration might have to deal with incorporating the demands of two different rebel factions neither of whom has any right to redress despite their rhetoric!

What was once interpreted as sheer arrogance and a travesty of the Democratic Statutes within Sri Lanka, The quasi ddministrative facets of the LTTE which were to all intents and purposes illegal including the Police and Law Courts run by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) were ignominiously closed in the District of Batticaloa where regional commander Karuna of the LTTE in defiance has led a breakaway faction challenging the authority of Supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran which has to be recognized as early warning signs for the future of the LTTE which comes as no surprise as many experts predicted that this would transpire based on the infertile dogma of impropriety of Velupillai Pirapaharan who is more of a maniacal autocrat with his own need to survive at heart than someone capable of attending to the needs of the Tamil Community whose cause he often takes up in pretence without a mandate from the entire community. Ironically also, the Administration of Ranil Wickremasinghe has shown tolerance towards the existence of Pirapaharan who has never given up his idealogies or relented for the horrendous crimes he has initiated against the Sinhala Nation and the present problems within the LTTE perhaps poetic justice for past crimes which will unravel to a far greater intensity of adversity and their detriment as the internal rift created within the LTTE could very well be irreparable!

To add insult to injury relative to the mock administration of Pirapaharan it has also been reported verifiably that an unspecified number of 'prisoners' held by the LTTE's Batticaloa ' police ' escaped as the rebels halted civil administration work after the split was revealed and viewed by diplomats and political analysts as a serious blow to the LTTE while also likely to complicate further an already faltering Norwegian-led peace process which could be thrown into limbo fuelling fears that the country could slide back into a conflict of a different nature in the North and North East promoting infighting within the LTTE after the Government rejected the breakaway Tiger commander Karuna's request for a defence pact and separate truce which of course is not only unacceptable but illogical, unethical and would further complicate an already complicated situation.

Hypothetically a conflict between the two LTTE factions could be seen as a weakening of their overall resources albeit consequentially harmful to regional security and territorial integrity which may have to be delt with appropriately if and when the need arises, by the Administration, Armed Forces and Internationally pledged assistance standing by ( particularly neighboring powers) though not an expectation of great relish as an Election is pending where the President has expressed her dedications towards re- negotiating Peace which if it is to be an aftermath of the combined intricacies of an Internal Power Struggle of the LTTE and the setting up of a new Administration, somewhat of a daunting task yet perhaps a task made easier considering Administrative strength pitted against a weakened LTTE.

A time apparent for the Executive Leadership of Sri Lanka to manouvre carefully as there are concerns from many areas including the Armed Forces concerned specifically about the threatened break away by the LTTE group led by Karuna which could have serious implications on the ceasefire agreement as it would throw into confusion the objectives of the ceasefire presently in force.
The reported split is indeed a devastation to the internal set up of the LTTE as well as its complete infrastructure of ill repute which has set in disarray the rebel group and what they probably view as 'progress' since it began its insurrection in 1983 where the leadership of Velupillai Pirapaharan has been unquestionably challenged.

There are great speculations and expectations that despite any setbacks ensuing from the LTTE rift, to the Nation, it will also provide a platform for the Tamil Community within Sri Lanka to further strengthen their cause towards affirming their non affiliations with the infamous LTTE and denouncing their existence and support towards unattainable objectives while being supportive of Sri Lanka's Democratic Leadership dedicated towards Sri Lanka's progress and the needs of her people which the Tamil Community are also a distinct part of !
