Whither Goest Peace In Sri Lanka Other Than Negatively, With The Re-Entry Of Norway and A Once Discarded LTTE Idealogue?

There seems to be a complete disregard by the LTTE towards what projected the UPFA into the capacity of The Ruling Party in the first place where by simple definition the previously incumbent UNF Administration of Rani Wickremasinghe was swept out of power, namely for colluding with the impropriety of LTTE demands and being overly conciliatory to their every expectation in order to maintain the ceasefire and Memorandum of understanding in a subjugative manner.

That the LTTE continue to harp on the same theme based on their Interim Self Governing Authority ISGA being accepted by the present administration as the only pre-condition towards the resumption of the peace negotiations sounds somewhat obtuse and perhaps while being a mere LTTE strategy it should be an item which either needs to be discontinued and restructured to accommodate reality rather than fantasy or else be made to accept the terms and conditions which the present Government represented by its President and caucases will re introduce to incorporate the pandemic needs of all Sri Lankans realistically rather than the will of a group of outlawed terrorists.

It is commendable that although the views of the Patriotic National Movement the JHU and the JVP have always maintained a stance of defiance towards the LTTE's demands, they have now indicated a willingness towards dialogue and a softening of their stance which they have chosen over radical opposition in the best interests of the Nation which however does not grant any mandate towards any impure reasonings by any enity in opposition to the UPFA Administration which is also applicable to the parliamentary opposition of the UNF and the SLMC and perhaps time appropriate for the LTTE to knock off their continued harpings about their ISGA as being the only conditional tenet towards negotiating peace as it seems to be fast becoming an obsolete concept not in keeping with the greater need to maintain thre Nation's Sovereignity and Territorial Integrity within any acceptable parameters of Democratic Governance.
Thereby it would be very appropriate to appraise confidently the viabilities of the present upsurge of expression by the huge conglomerate of Buddhist Priests, High Intellectuals and Sri lankans from all walks of life comprising the general voting public who helped the formation of the UPFA and that their call for a negotiated settlement to the ethnic problem in Sri lanka being one which cannot compromise in any way the Statutory Constitutionalised Sovereign Democratic Rights of the Sinhala Nation as the predominant majority as expressed in an overwhelming tone of voice to the entire Nation, a voice which must be and will be heard both Nationally and Internationally towards eschewing any unjustifiable demands by the LTTE.

Much to the chagrin of those who hope for a simple resolution to the related issues the re-involvement of the previously insignificant Norwegian peace monitors and now the re-entry of the equally insignificant and contentious couple of Mr and Mrs Anton Balasingham into the fray just reported as having flown into Sri Lanka, given the red carpet treatment and official transportation into the Wanni in somewhat jocund fashion knowing their track record, the circumspect doubts about where the Peace Process is headed and who exactly is properly equipped to handle it towards resolution other than towards further complication is a matter for constant wonderment as the charade continues and no feather in the cap of any Administration despite the relativities of some difficulty involved!

It must be noted beyond a doubt that the Interim Self Governing Authority ISGA as demanded by the LTTE would constitute a radical signing away of Sri Lanka's Sovereignity and Territorial Integrity by any definition and not a demand which can be acceded to by any sane thinking Administration confronted by the delicate issue of what alternatives there may be towards negotiating peace with an entity such as the LTTE who have only presented mere stumbling blocks and hurdles towards real resolution and perhaps a somewhat more assertive stance which would convey to them National displeasure while advising the LTTE as to who really calls the shots an appropriate attitude which the Administration probably needs to ponder upon as the LTTE despite their threats and expressed intimidations as an alternative to their demands being turned down are more than likely a spent force and if their bluff needs to be called this probably is a likely juncture taking into consideration the recent developments involving the breakaway Col. Karuna which depleted and exposed the LTTE's Achille's Heel and the impact it has had on Governmental attitude which should by rights be contemplating appropriate responses to LTTE arrogance towards the majority Sinhalese of Sri Lanka as well as all other minorities intolerablr while also dissuading their belief that they represent the Tamil Community in its entirety which they realistically and statistically do not!

While the recalling of Norway to the Peace Negotiations together with Anton Balasingham perhaps for the lack of better alternatives within the perceptability of Governmental judgement seems somewhat bewildering it also seems to be an indication that there is an apathetic need towards seeking restitution through positive perception in other more profitable areas given the responses of many sources of high international clout such as the USA, Great Britain and the Indian Government amongst others who have openly made declarations of their animosity towards the attitude of the LTTE while synonymously expressing willingness to help resolve Sri Lanka's problems yet perhaps non committal to a degree without a searing request from Sri Lanka which somehow indicates the proper wherewithal lacking or a continued lackadaisical dependance on puerile entities where rank disregard has been shown towards past inconsistencies by Norway and Balasingham and short of being a ' back to square one' accomplishment cannot be viewed as positive manouvering . Undoubtedly there is a speculative element to this reasoning but it could very well be concluded rationally that from Sri Lanka's prespective nothing ventured is nothing gained and in the meantime the LTTE continue to march their merry way as though they have a mandate to all their impure demands made to a Sovereign Nation!

Considering the legitimacy of India's concerns towards Regional Security and the accords of the Global Coalition Against International Terrorism, respective representation from both these sources towards direct involvement in Sri Lanka's Peace Negotiations would seem a meritworthy option to the latest choices of Norway and Balasingham!which will more than rescind the LTTE 's demands towards any concessions other than those percieved by an astute ansd assertive Sri Lankan Administration well above the LTTE in terms of National and International esteem despite their rhetoric and perhaps needs greater considerations by Sri Lanka's Administrative powers towards replacing the current negotiators of Peace who have failed to deliver real peace, with more credible sources whose presence will not only be a deterrent to the LTTE towards continuing in their present unrelenting image but also set in place a degree of rationality to the entire gamut of Peace in Sri Lanka which is fast becoming very circumspect.
