The Mahinda we knew

One wouldnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t hold Mahinda in par with brilliant leaders such as SWRD, Lalith or Kadirgamu, however this manƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s organizing power and the ability to work and lead teams are incomparable and deserve the highest accolade.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ I met Mahinda during the late 60s at Vidyodaya Uni while he was working as a Library Assistant.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ At that time his leadership qualities were not apparent let alone the potential to become a politician of this magnitude but a carefree simple man who liked to enjoy life to its fullest.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The greatest attraction for us as undergrads was his father’s dark blue jeep which at times he brought to campus to go out with the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”boysƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ the rascals at Uni.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ As a young irresponsible lot we use to take bottles, guitar and our boisterous voices to roam around Colombo sometimes dead in the night.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ One of our favourite places was Galle Face Green, when it was a real green and not a concrete mess as its stands now.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The incidences we saw here were so dreadful that I wouldnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t dare to write it, but the moment ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”peopleƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ saw us they ran away as they presumed it was a Police jeep as we gave chase and the same reaction at nefarious areas in Colombo as we drove along.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ People just ran for cover.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ We use to consume liquor and had sing songs till late into the night and our dear friend Mahinda use to drop us back at the places where we stayed and drove home alone.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Everyone, students as well as staff, loved this humble unassuming man as he didnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t show any proud ness being a son of a parliamentarian and ex-Minister.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ During this time he may have been absorbed in books as he spent his whole time in the library but when it came to enjoyment, boy he did really enjoy.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ He was a star attraction at Thurstan College(his alma mater) and Issipatane big match, leading all the boisterous, noisy old boys.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Then came the day the turning point in his life in 1970.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ This carefree man suddenly became the youngest MP going through one of the most gruesome election campaigns in the history of Sri Lanka.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The UNP thugs were at their worst as we the Vidyodyans were branded the worst lot of uni students during this tumultuous era as we physically attackedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Lake House and also the Royal Commission appointed by the Mad Cow, to look into closing down the Science Faculty.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Thanks to people like us today Jayawardenapura campus can boast of a fully fledged Science Faculty and a Medical Faculty too.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ One of MahindaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s SLFP supporter’s car was machine gunned at I can vividly remember this vehicle with bullet holes all over.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ He is a man who never forgets his friends and understands the meaning of gratitude as he came back victorious to the joy of especially the rascals.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ One day we, including the other Mahinda who was at that time the Student CouncilƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s President,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ were invited for tea at the Parliament Cafeteria and this simple man gave us the grandest tea party we ever had in our life.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ In early 70s IƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ was compelledƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ to meet him again on some disturbing activities which were going on at Valachchenai Paper Mill, in fact the emergence of the LTTE.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ He submitted some of our concerns to the then Industries Minister during Parliament Question time.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ We saw the man maturing into a real politician as his speeches in parliament became more and more vocal and powerful day by day.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ One day while he was in opposition when I was living in Kandy in late 80s he saw me in a large crowd and came towards me and hugged me as I was absent from the country for a long time. (a humorous thing about all politicians is that when they are in opposition they seem to be far more friendlier than when they are in power!)ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ His organizing ability was at its peak when he single handedly ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ organized the island wide protest against the UNP regime by people holding hands from South to West coast to show defiance to corrupt UNP regime of Premadasa and he may have being instrumental to put SLFP back to power, although some others may have taken credit for the success.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Mahinda will be always Mahinda if not for the people including his advisors who attempts to put him on a pedestal, as most Sri Lankans do, for no apparent reason.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ In 2008 while I was in Sri Lanka I had an issue with the Exchange Control Act. pertaining to expats who hold Dual citizenship.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ I wrote to Mahinda on this regard addressing him as Mahinda and one of his advisors, to whom I sent a copy of my letter was so upset and asked me why I addressed him as Dear Mahinda!ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ This person was exposed to England which understandably has the replusive regimental approach.
In 2004 on that dreadful Tsunami day 26th December my family was sitting with MahindaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s among a large gathering at Temple Trees listening to a Dhamma talk on Mudita by English monk Ven Kashypa who speaks flawless Sinhala.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ One can imagine the extremes of Vipake when on one side of the island when thousands were perishing we were listening to a Buddha dhamma talk and on the right topic of jealousy among Sinhala people, the bane of our society.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Our suffering as a race could be attributed to thisƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ single factor of jealousy.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Jealousy even among family members is quite apparent let alone with neighbours and outsiders and fierce competition among families damage relationships and even aspirations of children ruining sometimes their education to cater to the whims and fancies of their parents to become a Doctor, Lawyer or an Engineer the 3 supreme goals of Sinhalaya.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Mahinda has set and example and a huge challenge to all Sri Lankans.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ He gave up all vices and brought up his kids in the traditions and ideals of our Buddhist culture and now he has produced a son who has become an MP and doing well.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ He has taken an unprecedented step to develop North and East which our Sinhala political leaders ignored from the time we got our independence from the Satanic race.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ When I was in Toronto I met the Chief Engineer of Mahaveli Diversion project who stayed with my Tamil friend Arasa and I posed the question ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”why not divert water to Jaffna?ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ and the simple answer was ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”PoliticsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ When 12 Management Trainees were selected in mid 70s to Petroleum Corporation not a single Tamil graduate was selected ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” my colleague a single Muslim who was successful, later became the Commercial Manager.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ No compulsory quota system for minorities was in place and ironically the Chairman at that time was Coomaraswamy who hailed form Trinco.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ We paid a heavy price for 30 long years and now we have realized the importance of a balance development in all areas.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ We wouldnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t have created terrorists out of some timid people if we were wiser 30 years ago.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ (some chauvinistic unwise Sinhala people may take offence on what I am writing but this is the truth)ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ So my advise to all those who oppose Mahinda ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” leave him alone and let him get on with the job.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ This is directed at all those corrupt UNP thugs and politicians, corrupt irresponsible journalists who castigate Mahinda locally and elsewhere, unwise Catholics, unwise Christians, corrupt especially foreign NGOs and the English speaking murderous Colombans whoƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ assume UNPƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ should run the country – for BuddhaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s sake leave Mahinda alone and give him a chance, to lead the country and extend his influence in the Asiatic region to bring some dignity and power to the region which has been too long subjugated by the west.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ On his part Mahinda should take drastic steps to wipe out all thugs and under world characters as he did with the terrorists, to gain the confidence of the people and lead the country to prosperity.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ What we need at this crucial hour is not a Dutugamunu but a Parakramabahu the Great.

I totally agree with Sunil. My family were ardent supporters of the UNP for 3 generations, but when we saw what Mr Mahinda Rajapakse was doing started supporting him. What a brave and intelligent man. Who else can think of creating friends out of an enemies, Mr Vinayagamurthi Muralathiran and KP. Sri Lankans now have a dignity and are not just the (obedient)servants of the white man.

Totally agree with Sunil who lives where I live at the moment for the last 26 years. Mahinda’s act against LTTE terrorism made me understand why we must support this man and his successors from his party for another 25 to 40 years. We need to be vigilant for at least another 30 years and help develop north and east to integrate our great country so that people would not resort to violence to change politics.

Sunil, an excellent very interesting article. The last sentance is the best. Did you know King Parkramabahu ruled today’s TAMIL NADU? You are correct Mihinda was Dutugamunu. Now lets help him to be King Parakramabahu. Times have changed and one must not port historical events of the past to present and compare the situation to today’s events. It seems to me that you have lots of Tamil friends, but have you tried to logically reason with Tamils about the 13th and 17th amendment? Few days ago my friend Charles Perera tried to logically reason about EELAM or EZRAM? Insulting e-mails received was unbelievable and he had to terminate the dialog. At least in my opinion, Tamils in Tamil Nadu is going revolt in 2012 and might break the INDIAN Empire. If this happens then the first thing they do is to attack Sri Lanka. Is our Dasamaha Yodaya, Gotabaya ready for this eventuality? Pass this on to Mahinda if you can.
Mahinda has done every thing Lalith wanted. I will tell you a story that will show how Lalith out did Pramadase. There was a school in Mrs. Bandaranayake’s electorate where, Pramadase stopped any funds to upgrade the science lab. Mrs. Bandaranayake wrote a letter to Lalith and requested funds to up grade the lab. He went and met Mrs. Bandaranayake at the school and gave funds to up grade the lab from some account that Ronnie De Mal could not stop. After his assassination, Mrs. Bandaranayke wrote an excellent letter to the media describing the event. Lalith was from a rich family and lived and schooled in Colombo 7, but he did not forget his roots in the ancestoral village Wrakagoda. That is why he started the “MAHA POLA”.
What I say is the same as you: leve Mihinda alone. Tamils cannot eat and drink the constitution. What they want is work, shelter and to educate their children. And not the annexation to Tamil Nadu.

You have written a very strongly opinionated article. I admire your courage and straightforwardness in your presentation. However, this time, I have to write this as I cannot agree to your vitriolic comments about Sinhala people as they are very similar to misguided migrant version of hubris that has been published in abundance at this website, who typically get ends tied wrongly, albeit in good faith. In a way, how could they be different given their very presence among English, a point they tend to ignore though deserve a full-self apology before preaching Sinhala people. Please note that If I do not make references, it means I agree with you.
I deplore your pre-emption to those who do not agree with your version of facts by labelling them with chauvinistic, unwise, UNP, etc. etc. I come from people who supported Rajapaksas risking their lives from ground up. Today, I have distanced myself from them and have recently instructed those who are dear to me to stay clear of them because we do not want to contribute to some of their dreadful acts. I made my choice the day they picked up English as the THING under various disguises to do whatever they planned to achieve. This matter along is more than enough for any Sinhala (not bloody bogus Satan-licking migrant scum bags -Sorry I used your style of language) people to judge Rajapaksas. As I see, the biggest enemies of the Rajapaksas are themselves and their boot-licking patriotic migrants acting as their advisers than anybody else that would cause the most damage to them. In the process, Rajapaksas have become their worst enemies by now. If they fail, please do not blame others because people like me making comments does not affect in anyway to their decisions. Everyone supporting Rajapaksas should understand that fact as this site is full of person-worshippers (Bloody stooges are stooges whether they support MR, RW, SF or any other local English gentlemen carrying the burden left behind by their masters).
You are right about MR hisotry, but seem to lack more important aspects of his/family political life that brought him to the pinnacle of power including their mastery in certain aspects of political astuteness less principles. Nobody can hide the natural history though they can concoct their versions with impunity in the hope that the gullible would take their bait. Refer your Tamil-supporting hubris about petroleum industry, I just spoke to a family who has more knowledge about internal affairs in that regard. Actually, both of them had worked for petroleum corp and wife comes from the same uni who had seen MR working at the library.
My friend worked for petroleum corp and had an Executive assistance in his office, a junior engineer, the top manager and several mangers and engineers that he dealt with, coming from Tamil origin. Please do not try to hoodwink people by giving life to falsehoods propagated by Tamils. One of the top most managers he referred to started carrier as a management trainee and another management trainee, a colleague of his wife was also Tamil. This friend was the first to submit the damage report after Tamil terror attack on Kolonnawa installation. While you talk nonsense, do you know who gave them the installation drawings? You know very little about Tamils or Sinhala people for that matter. According to him, No Tamils should be given the access to responsible positions as that can cause immense damage to country and Sinhala people. If you have trouble, please read about what those holding higher positions have done this far. You know better how Australia runs its own affairs. Do you think they offer positions at Federal level to every tom, dick and harry to appease minorities? I agree with my friend. Call me chauvinist or whatever. Who cares.
You are insulting Sinhala people and have no idea of the true Sinhala people and are confusing Sinhala people with Sinhalised migrants, a vast majority of devotees following Hindu-Buddhism. How come you people, including many others writing articles at this website, claim to Sinhalaness or Sinhala identity is my lingering question. By birth, humans are not different to other animals. You can check that by letting a child grow in the nature without any external influences. On the other hand, while sucking up to English and washing their dishes, we go on to preach what Sinhala people are. Being one of you, I feel funny when reading these articles and could be the only one among the fellow-migrants who use the F word to describe self more often than anything else for getting into such a contrasting situation.
I wish you good luck when you write the next article and hope you would mind your words. Do you really want to supply water to Jaffna to feed the timid people (definitely you are blind to Tamilness) to make it their homeland. Some of the suicide bombers were more timid than the timid people you refer to. Sometimes, our egos take precedence and ignore the damage caused to the nature by their so-called generous humanitarian acts. Do you want to see a desert to the north by encouraging and facilitation of humans of this kind who have no respect for values or nature for that matter. Unfortunately, none of you can prevent their destiny for squatting someone else’s sacred land. On humanitarian grounds, I would say to resettle them back in their legitimate place, if there exists any, though I like to see them pay their price for their true timidity. I hope you would not go to anoint VP as their true hero next time. I make this appeal to all those migrants of Lankan origin to mind their own business than trying to preach Wild Bana to Sinhala people, who are paying the price for accommodating such scum amidst them for a long time to let them tarnish the Sinhala identity. Real colour is to be seen when flying.
Let me forecast that Rajapaksas will go into the history as the worst after 1948 if they continue the current path. But they have enough time to do the right thing by them. You know very little about Dutu Gamunu or Parakrama Bahu to praise them just by blindly following Hindu-Buddhists for what they got during their rule. When the real lions hunt, we always had, have and will have hyenas ready to take credit. This Parakaram Bahu had hired Tamil mercenaries to kill Sinhala people in the south and also forced Intelligent Sinhala people to do extravagant things to retain power just like the modern kings of all colours who sell the future to build wasteful structures to win the hearts and minds to stay in power. Sadly we have a servile lot who give credit to hyenas, always.

Prinyantha – I always have respect people opinions but let this elite forum judge you and your vociferous comment which in my opinion is an article by itself. We have limited knowledge you and me included and with that limited knowledge we tend to show our diary of diction and thoughts – you often do this I have noticed it. I do not make comments like ‘you do not know’ as its a relative term. I may challenge you or anyone (including monks) on UNDERSTANDING(not much of a KNOWLEDGE) of Buddhism (if I am correct you made a comment on my article on Re-birth or New-Birth right?) but when it comes to other topics we all have LIMITED knowledege – we go by what others have written, nothing more nothing less. If you have read my articles in the past I have always attacked the English madness in Sri Lanka and I for one have used English as a TOOL not a sacrosanct thing as most do. I admire your knowledge on most areas but do not be authoritative – you lose your credibility. Now please let us maintain a decorum in this form and not attack each other (Sinhalayas past time) but concentrate our energy on other important matters, which need to be addressed.
Just be relaxed man – do not be too emotional and I don’t play this racist game! I suffered at Valachchenai but yet I admire my teachers who were Tamils, my friends who were Tamils. I certainly do not like your attitide towards Tamils – well you say you are a Buddhist! Is that the mentality you should heva? Now you may comment on this but refrain from writing an article please. I still admire you Prinyantha.

I even do not have to say that I agree with Sunil Wijayapala, because he must be well aware of it by now through my articles. I agree with Kit Athul as well. I also think what SL Tamils need actually is not what foreign funded NGOs and Diaspora is advocating around the world. In any solution for the NE issue must not be aimed to satisfy global conspirators’ demands, but must be aimed of the future of the nation that including majority community and minority altogether making a matured nation can handle the challenges of historical moment we live in.
But our nation building has been hampered by so many obstacles caused by colonial structures existing in our system. Nation building was misplaced for too long by various gimmicks of power consolidation of minority culture of Colombians for last sixty years of independence. To bring a simple example, a nation that had gone through a ruthless colonial restructuring of its social, political and economic life for five hundred years of colonialism has never being able to subject to decolonization of its civil life even after sixty years of its independence. To any standard, this is not acceptable. Let along the economic and political sector, law and order is an aspect overlapping all other sectors still remain the British/Dutch. Did we do any decolonization of the institutions of law and order in our country?
Our judiciary institutions and their traditions have been designed and enforced upon local masses to protect the white occupier and their local agents to marginalize the native. The traditions of law and order in SL are meant to keep the native constantly in check all the time. The irony is those same structures still exists even after sixty years of independence. Let along the decolonization of the quality and effect, even we could not change the symbols of it even in costumes in our judiciary traditions. When you see photographs of our Chief Justices, you can see our servility even to wear the white-blond wigs and Christian robe by CJs even today. It symbolizes the head covered by this blond wig legally enforcing its vision of mythological traditions of white Europe upon local masses. No doubt we all are products of these same institutions. At least we must try to understand the knowledge trap in all aspects in the knowledge we use in our day today affairs within the limited space we have. One can argue that I also use the same western knowledge in my articles. But I consciously try to use such knowledge to deconstruct western trap in all possible manner in my own limitations.
We live in a world with many other races and many other cultures. None of these races are superior or inferior to any of each other. Sinhalese culture has proven its maturity by the very fact of its survival even after undergoing severe historical odds. The full potential of Sinhalese culture actually has been choked by colonialism and finally by this Colombian minority culture for long time.
A matured nation means not limiting itself within the snail-shell although it brings comfort, but expanding its horizons outward for its good, even though it may create conflicts at times. Think about all superpowers, they have become ‘super’ only through their willingness to use external knowledge; the best example is USA. We must be able to create that inclusiveness for the benefit of our nation. We cannot forget that prince Sapumal was a Tamil who united the whole island during Kotte period.
Our development programs have to address our vulnerabilities of the time. During our history these vulnerabilities have been changed time to time. Today we have a security threat that is directly related with our very survival. This is a mammoth challenge for a tiny nation like Sri Lanka. If we play right we can survive. If we play wrong we may loose. We cannot forget a fundamental principle in the history of mankind. There are historical events that can be reversed, and also there are happenings that can never reverse. Native American and Australian Aborigines issues are some examples. If we lived in a world that is ruled by the law of jungle, to the extent that some superpowers need our strategic location, they might have taken over our country by force by now, at least to create a military base like the one in Cuba.
I like to reed more of Sunil Wijayapala. I apologize for writing a long comment.

I forgot to mention that I have never seen Mahinda or Gotabhaya as civilians or as politicians in my life other than in photos. The main reason they attracted my attention originally, was because President Mahinda Rajapakse was hailing from outside Colombian ruling elite, and he did not want to hide it like president Premadasa did. Although President Premadasa was also coming from out side this elite class, he thought it was disadvantageous for him and his political career. The notion was very post colonial. That was, “if anybody to rule Sri Lanka, he/she must belong to Colombian post colonial ruling class.”
At the interview with Daya Gamage of Asian Tribune, when President Rajapakse said that the main reason for the west to be against him was because he is not belong to Colombo ruling elite, I realized that he is touching the very heart of our problem, and he didn’t want to affiliate himself with Colombians. I also think his critics are driven with ulterior motives. He must be given a chance to rule this land without any interference.

Priyantha,
By birth no one in any race become great. By action you become Sinhala. There are some suddas who are better sinhalas than most. By your own analogy anyone born in Sri Lanka will behave like their surroundings. Make that surrounding and be a Sinhala , if you are not.

Geeth – my analysis of world politics and domination over the years always points to one race not WHITE but the Anglo Saxon. In my articles I emphasise this time and again. White people or broadly westerners have lost their hegemony over the east over the years. However our friends the WASP (White Anglo Saxon Protestant) still feel they need to OVERSEE or MANAGE the affairs of the east, through their what I have acronymed WASPPM(the last two meaning Propaganda Machine) and UN and Commonwealth. Again I do not direct this at our dear Anglo friends, neighbours, work mates, those who do charity and the common man on the street but at CIA, Pentagon, Green Peace, AI, and English Journalists and their media empire. They still like to smell the filth of others as their own filh doesn’t smell and like hyennas make a big noise when lions roar and rob their kill. Imagine the stupidity of the Sinhalaya, still appreciating the Vampire Victoria, the very blood sucker who ruined our country, having bridges, dams named after her, instead of naming after our own Vihara Maha Devi or Anula or even on a Buddhistic theme Maha Maya Devi. I have written articles covering a whole spectrum from reforestation of hill country to education but our KARAKUTTAN brains of politicains and bureaucrats do not get it. Why can’t our stupid politicians realise these fundamental values and begin a revamp our country bottoms up. We need to lobby for the dismantling of Commonwealth for a start which exists just to hold the subtle power over African and Asian countries headed by the Mad Cow as the leader and bowing down to shamless gambler!. Of course some Sri Lankan Christians and Catholics do still like to identify themselves as western influenced, Colombons in particular as Buddhist culture the base culture of Sinhala has no meaning for them. In fact I do not know why we need to speak English at all in Sri Lanka to carry out our day to day businesses. Wherever and whenever necessasary we should use English as a TOOL. I am not against people having a knowledge of English but to be CONDITIONED(WASPPM) to beleive that their is no survival without it is going to far. The latest direction on having an English stream in schools I am DEAD AGAINST! I told this when I met Susil (the foolish man did just the opposite while being the Minister for Education) and to my surprise Mahinda too has gulped this notion through his latest masters of English OH MY GOD the INDIANS! “”Wherer werer u I was sarching for u I knockeda knockeda at the doorr!”” translated to English – Where were you I was searching for you, I knocked at the door. By the way I love Indians and I spend a lot of time in India nowadays whenever I get a chance but to be guided by them to teach English is like going downhill without your breaks on!

Sunil, (Sharpeshooter)
I agree with you about the word ‘white’. I also know the difference of using the word ‘white’ and ‘Anglo Saxon’ dominance in regards to global politics. But in global politics, its indivisible part of marginality is derived from a philosophical foundation that is based on the dominance of ‘white’ race. For that reason, my usage of the said word may be little different. When I use the word ‘white’ always I use it in reference to white mythological political ideology that is derived from German Ideology, but not to denigrate white people in general. I have so many white friends, and we have good relations. Some friends have freed themselves from this ideology of superiority complex that is based on western philosophy but some are not. As a matter of fact, it is easy for the marginalized to deconstruct an ideology of marginality. But it is not so easy to do the same by the benefiter of it, especially when it is in the very foundation of their cultural upbringing. (Edward Said very nicely argue about this cultural foundations of west in his classic work ‘Orientalism’)
I had a white friend who was very fond of my art works. He was little upset of my subject matters since they were post colonial and also very critical of existing world politics. Finally in a conversation I had to tell him that I am critical of a design in which I am the victim. And I requested him not to consider my (struggle for) ‘freedom’ as his ‘defeat’, since my freedom does not desire to hegemonize him at the end. He agreed to my face, but he slowly distanced from me. This revealed so much about how he thought about me in relation to himself. He thinks destiny of my being is to be dominated by his ‘being’ which destined to dominate the world. This is not only the belief of western world, but this is the belief of all post colonial classes like Colombians.
However, since Anglo Saxon ideology and their world view is based on German ideology of Hegelianism, and also that ideology clearly demarcates the geography of this superior race in Europe, following the accepted terminology in critical theory, I also use the word ‘white’ at times to refer such ideological foundations and their followers. After the Second World War, however this limitation of the geography of the centrality of white world extended to Americas, where the political ideology of Anglo Saxons actually dominated by the holders of the Dollar, the world’s most powerful people who holds the key to greatest militaries are not just only Anglo Saxons any more; anyway they benefit the existing Anglo Saxon global structures in place when they took over the reigns. The racist apparatus in the global arena is not limited to Anglo Saxon racial purity. It is, in wider sense, is for the benefit of white race in oppose to non whites. in other words it is for the white rule in the global. We cannot ever forget the fact that racism is never ended in global politics. The Tamils will eat the same dish when they fulfill the task what westerners need to get done from them.
As far as white friends, I have so many white friends who do not believe in white superiority. I always say, they are out of my investigations. When I was in the University, my critical theory teacher was a white with German ancestral background. A wonderful man who taught me how to deconstruct western philosophical/ideological foundations and exposed how much trash was there in their foundations. Despite my limitations of English writing, at the end he assigned me an ‘A’ pass for my research paper given credit to my argument and congratulated me in an email. The paper was based on a subject matter to prove how gullible the established connection between post modernity and TNC (Trans National Corporations’) globalization agenda.
The notion of white supremacy and the notion that non whites are inferior to white race is in the bedrock of the ideological culture that has shaped-up the white subjectivity over the last two hundred years; it is very hard for them to overcome since they are the biggest victims of it.

Dear Sunil, thank you for your comments. Unfortunately decorum (whatever it means at this forum) is not served when you try to make a grand standing by statements like the following that reflects more about yourself than anybody else.
“on the right topic of jealousy among Sinhala people, the bane of our society. Our suffering as a race could be attributed to this single factor of jealousy…
… to become a Doctor, Lawyer or an Engineer the 3 supreme goals of Sinhalaya.
…which our Sinhala political leaders ignored…
…Petroleum Corporation…(Sinhala discrimination to Tamils)
We paid a heavy price for 30 long years and now we have realized the importance of a balance development in all areas. We wouldn’t have created terrorists out of some timid people if we were wiser 30 years ago…
some chauvinistic unwise Sinhala people…
Imagine the stupidity of the Sinhalaya, still appreciating the Vampire Victoria, …”
There is a clear misrepresentation of the truth. Unfortunately I lay out my thoughts to the extent I feel satisfied and never make them to anybody’s specifications. Unfortunately, I do not make comments to seek admiration, but to express my genuine thoughts after reading articles. Unfortunately, Sinhala seems to be the most abused word though none of you have come out to explain the meaning of the very word so far. If my comment is long, please note that it is to reflect the extent of my concern. Refer this forum, when I started making comments, I had great expectations. But now I consider it more like a web of death-bed confessions of treacherous migrants who benefited most from Sinhala people in the sense that they have inherited a lot of Sinhala characteristics, but serve willingly to the worst enemy of Sinhala people. There was a time journalists were just reporters. But things have changed and now they have become opinion makers, re-writers and manipulators, generically very similar to charities that have become instruments of savagery. When I am made to learn that the self-appointed patriotic Sinhala migrants carry more anti-Sinhala venom than the vast majority of migrants that remain the silent majority, I see them more dangerous than the worst of the enemies. Your reference to Ceylon Petroleum is very short on facts. e.g. JRJ not only favoured Tamil businessmen, but appointed even a Tamil professional without any input from anybody. This time, I go to the extent to say that there cannot be a single Sinhala person working for this organisation as all the appointments are directly political and it is still a Ceylon thing where even the short leave chit is written in English for many. If such an institution is taken as an example of Sinhala people discriminating against Tamils, it deserves much more than an article in response.
There is an interesting comment by De Costa. Unfortunately I do have trouble understanding the full intent in that very short comment. He says “By action you become Sinhala”. I wish he could tell what actions make a person Sinhala to enlighten everybody (I hope using English is not one of them). I want to mention that ancient Sinhala people believed that birth is also important, not just action and I agree with the ancient version. The more hilarious one is “there are some suddas who are better sinhalas than most. “. I wish he could elaborate on this as it is worth even it goes to hundreds of pages. He goes on to say “Make that surrounding and be a Sinhala , if you are not.”. I do not have a clue about what he says. Does it mean that anyone can become Sinhala by creating the surrounding? My personal opinion is that to create that surrounding, everyone having a liking to Englishness (language, culture etc. etc.), even a little bit, must be sent to hell. I do not suggest that they must be hanged because it lasts only a very short time, but strongly recommend to outsource them to English to make it last for three generations to drive them to extinction. By the way, most of them have already gone. If we can have a western economic embargo or other serious calamity, the rest will end up there. Then, one element of that surrounding will be accomplished. Please note that it is my personal view.
Refer Tamil question, what Tamils demonstrated during last 30 years is more than enough to go further than I do. Unfortunately, I made my conviction based on what the ancestors of modern day Tamils (They have not changed a bit from their ancestors) did a few thousand years back when there was no difference between Sinhala and Tamil.
Timidity of Tamils is a product required for their survival. VP was not the only ruler they had. As I see, they never had a better one. Like wise, westerners are hegemonic because it is the only thing that help them to survive. I have seen how hegemonic they are to their own people. Westerners speak their language because they are forced to do so. I have met some of their best hegemonic crowd and had a wonderful time. Some of them learnt the art of eating the hegemonic pie. Unfortunately, I do not want to make friends with them because I came to know too much about them. It is the same with Tamils for me. I may feel sorry for the plight of westerners who live because they do not have the guts to kill themselves just like some of the people among them who kill their whole family and commit suicide when they realise the life they enjoy. Unfortunately, there are not many intelligent people among them because of this bizarre ritual. But, snakes have evolved to produce venom for their survival because they were slow moving easy targets for others looking for a meal. Unfortunately, it does not mean that I have to embrace them or share my cave with snakes. When threatened, I would not hesitate to make a meal out of them per se.
As Sunil says, if I am vindictive, authoritative, challenging or outright insulting by saying “you do not know”, there is more to it than it looks. I rather like to see a response to my comment under the same article than spewing later like the Gossip King. For all those who use the word “Sinhala” without knowing what it means, don’t you think that it amounts to BS? Obviously I can understand why every tom, dick and harry want to call themselves Sinhala. I give a strong hint to work out. If not found, please never use the word because it is like a donkey trying to be a horse. This word is made of combining names of two animals and the origin runs to primitive times where the language was limited to single sounds. Let us see who the hell these Sinhala patriots speaking English are? By the way, I was born and grown up in a surrounding where I heard not a single English word from anyone close to me. Neither I knew the life of workers, because they had more work to do for themselves. How many of you had that chance? Today, I have to confront the kind of people I never had to face in my childhood. What a great destiny.
Dear Sunil, I am not a Hindu-Buddhist. Please do not jump to conclude that I am a cannibal (Jewish-Christian: my reference to Cannibal was based on their rituals and not meant as an insult). Do not even try to suggest that I got anything to do with cow urine drinkers or beasts chopping limbs. If you do not know what I meant, please follow them up. I tend to tie up believers with the original ethnic person who created that belief as there is a very close relationship of the believers to values of that original ethnic group. If you are interested about what I believe, I can say that I believe in life and living longer (It sounds bit like Ayubowan in a way). Unfortunately, it does not limit itself to me or humanity, but to every form of life that exist. The caustic part of my belief is that I would like to do everything possible to eradicate those who bring death to those who believe in life and living longer. If I can clean the whole lot by a single act, I am prepared to do that act infinite times to ensure existence of those who love life and living longer. I wrote this long comment not because of your pre-emptive assertion, but there were others making comments on this article. If there were none, I could have saved my time too. Please enjoy my comment as I always tend to use my time more effectively. There is a world of difference between Sinhala and Sinhalised. If you look at your own back yard, do you think that the Australians by conversion are the same as Australians by descent. Good luck.

Prinyantha – You have the right for your views and probably this elite forum appreciates it but that necessarily may not be the truth. Wisdom will prevail if you refrain from cpmmenting who is a ‘pure’ Sinhalaya and who is sitting on the brink. Buddha ones humiliated a Brahman who attempted to boast himself as a pure Brahman. Buddha traced back his ancestry and found he was a infact a decendent of a Vasalaya. So just be careful when you make comments about others. In 2008 when I was on a meditation spree in Anu I met some young archelogists and I helped them to built a database. In return I asked them to take me to see Vanni Attho who are the real indegenous people of Sri Lanka. Unfortunately we couldn’t make it. My friends at school – Bulankulames were these proud people. For them we are Rata Atthos who INVADED Sri Lanka from present day Gujarat. We (pardon me I consider myself a Sinhala) Simhala not Sinhala was our original name and most were/are from Vijaya’s decendents, although some came from Hastinapur and Kalinga. Although when I see injustice I react to it (my ignorance as I am not enlightened) I attempt to practice Buddhism as Lord Buddha exponded that is to shed all VIEWS (Mittcha Ditti) about this world. Thats all. I hope you have the wisdom to understnd this. It is best we Sinhalese know our weaknesses and correct them rather than bickering about us and castigating others. Sunil Vijayapala

Geeth – Read what you requested. It all boils down to perception – we all percieve phenomena differently depending on our consciousness levels. Now I invite you to read the article by Ajit in this journal titled – Lets not get angry , but get even. Sunil Vijayapala

Geeth – I should have included this in above comment – I appreciate your art and one of my cousins is Iromie W (a cousin I haven’t met for the last 45 years!). I wonder whether you know her. Some of her stuff appeared in Sunday Times yesterday – have a look. Sunil Vijayapala

Sunil, I heard all the bull stories that you try to tell me and believed too when I was following that pathetic suicidal, human hating, women hating, sex hating, self hating and anti-reproductive cult, which fits very well to the Hindu psyche. I even attempted to find my original place in India to end up in dismay. I also tried to live the life of many ethnic groups to find my way. Until recent times, there were your religious masters preaching that garbage while going to the extent of taking the ownership of Sinhala people. You should wonder why they have become silent or who made them to swallow their own words. I must appreciate some of them for their intellectual capabilities though sacrificed by pathetic parents for a lost cause. If I could have a few that have such intellectual values, I could have shown you who Sinhala truly are. I came to know that those claim to be Sinhala (Simhala is another bull story spread by the missionaries who even went to the extent of introducing lions that gave birth to Sinhala race – To hell with them) and at the same time insult Sinhala people have a clear alien origin. There is a fine old adage saying that tongue would not lie even when the mouth lies.
As a writer you should be not only willing to read articles, but to understand what others write whether short or long. I never used the word “pure” to describe Sinhala identity. Obviously, I have a logical approach to find the ethnicity, not just Sinhala. Let me tell you the first logic that makes someone belonging to an ethnic identity. They live with their own language because they created it by themselves for their own use. They do not shit on their identity. Bogus Sinhala people try to invent theories and have almost succeeded. Those Buddhist missionaries re-wrote the history with the support of semi-Tamil monarchy. Being a follower, you just repeat what they have told you. Unfortunately, I did the same and now feel like having eaten human waste thinking that it was a rich source of nutrients (sounds like a Hindu).
Your Buddha is not a relevant authority for me though you hide behind his funny arguments ignoring his own final words. Neither I agree to your version of history, nor the silly Veddah thing. I not only agree with the folklore that tells they were of the mix of Sinhala and Tamil (Vijay kumar & Kuweni), I can prove it.
Ethnicity is not something you can buy or claim without being one. When tested, you become a liar. Whether it is Sinhala, Tamil, Hindi, English or any other ethnic group, they have unique characteristics and they would even sacrifice their lives based on their values. It is naive to make arguments to hide the real identity.
I can see from your own articles published at this web that your values are a mix of many ethnic origins. That is typically a character of migrants. They buy identity when living within a community and they move on to the next group and do the same. But the path they took is easily identifiable, no matter how far they go to hide their tracks.
Unfortunately, parentage is a key factor that make two other humans taking the right to decide our values unless we re-write our own values. Since you talk of Pure Sinhala, I say it is achievable and is the best option for any human who love life and desire to live longer. Instead of attaching bull values to ethnicity, I must say that it is all about making the choices in life, not something to even abuse the word ‘Pure’, which displays poor understanding of ethnicity.
Since you talk a lot about Buddha, I like to claim that Buddha did not have a human origin in his previous lives, the main reason for his vitriolic anti-human rhetoric that contributed to waste many lives. His words sound more like sour grapes story of some entity who took the human form in the belief that it is hunky dory to find the stark reality, visible to anyone who can stay above the fanatical faiths. You mentioned about re-birth thing, remember. Even your Buddha said not to have blind faith, but to question and understand. Where do you stand? Try to read some of entries on Sinhala history forum at this website to gain more details (Refer comments made by Priyantha …).
You are just a follower of another human, essentially a subhuman by nature as long as you do it. If you think there are others who can prove themselves that they know things by their own right and prove me wrong, I love to hear. This is one of the things I tend to say that you could not get. By the way, why you type my name as prinyantha (several times) as it cannot be regarded as a typing error (Is it a low type reflection)? What I am trying to do by making strange comments is to find my kind of people who can think for themselves. Unfortunately, I ended up many times finding a lot of migrants, the most disparaging term I use to describe a human.
Since you referred to the word “pure”, I say not only every single human, but all the forms of life that exist are truly pure and unique by nature. Have you ever seen a dog producing a cat? Since you used Buddha, I can even go to the extent that he can be tied to all the dirty words that we know just like every other religious cult leader that we know. None of them had a decent origin according to what they have preached. Mother never dies if a child is a good one, whatever bull story that we try to tell to hide the truth. What comes out as thoughts from an individual is a direct measure of purity of what makes that person. You have amply proved it yourselves by using words. You forgot that we all were pure human animals some ages ago. Deep inside my comments rests my absolute desire to save at least a few lives destined to be be destroyed by English, the dry cleaners of the humanity.

Sunil,
Yes I know Eromi Wijewardana. She is a bit senior to me since she worked when artists like SH Sarath, Karunaratna, Badugodahewa were very active in the field. I wonder if she remembers me since I also have never seen her for about fifteen or twenty years.

Mr. Abeywickrama,
What is your ethnicity ? Are you atheist ? How many of your knid living in Sri lanka and India ? Are you a decendent of Rawana ( or Rama )? Can you please explain ?
July 27th, 2010 at 4:40 am
Sorry, this is my last comment on this article. Sunil, can you please tell why you have a strong resentment towards English (mine is many times yours though I tend to soft-peddle on my feelings and even know why)? If it is not a personal response like sour grapes of a migrant, there is only one ethnic group in the whole world who could feel like that. Every other ethnic group see them as their saviors. I made many comments to make you angry and reveal yourselves but with little luck on this topic.
Refer comment by Nanda, I wish I could answer you in full. By telling the truth, I do not lose anything. I come from the south (name of my village means Absolute Origin when translated to English – There is a place around Mannarama called Absolute Peak) and believes in life and living longer (virtual life is achievable – not a bad faith even if it is not). I have lived a life telling the truth even in situations where nobody else would do to take such risks. I prevailed and am still live and kicking. If you ask questions that you think would be necessary to find my ethnicity, I promise to answer truthfully. I have made comments on gods at this website in many ways. I go with the ancient version of the meaning of gods, the original meaning of this word. I can help verify truthfulness of the original meaning using your natural senses. But, I do not go on my knees before anybody other than my parents or grand parents voluntarily. But force, deception and other such means can do wonders and have made me worship stones, clay moulds, trees, skeletal remains etc. etc. during the bygone era. I do not believe that there is anyone of my kind in India. But I know there are a few in Lanka and numbers are growing fast. I am only a little bit concerned about Rawana and have contempt for Rama and the hopeless idiots who created a story similar to a story of American victory in Vietnam. If you mean history, I made a comment about Maha Sammatha Raja and said New year festival is timed to coincide with the occasion that sun reached above the palace of that king. This means more than thirty thousand years back according to the custodians of new year traditions and goes far beyond Rawana times. I can arrange you to meet them. I also said that Manu-Na-Arama (Mannarama) was the place where the palace was. This is a physical point for you to verify my silly claim. Does the sun reach noon above Mannarama during the new year time? Check it out by yourself. If you know Sinhala fluently, there will be a time to see me in person to answer your questions if you can prove your own credentials. I hope you are satisfied with my explanations. Unfortunately, many in the world must know me by content but not by name if they are in industrial technology fields.
July 27th, 2010 at 5:16 am
Priyantha you can insult Sinhalese and Buddhism. It is not our problem may be you are disappointed on the death of your sun God Velupillai Prabakaran?
Though some Sri Lanka born Christians and tamils doesn’t like to call them as Sri Lankan but I am proud that I’m a son of Sinhala nation and a believer of Buddhism. If not Buddhism and Sinhala language how we are going to identify as a separate nation? We believe that ever since present land of Sri Lanka separated from south Asian sub continent we were an independent nation. The archeologist and historians proved it. Because of Buddhism and Sinhala nation our ancestors developed a civilized country non-second to any nation.
Our ancestors made the unique civilization of Sinhala by water management system. They built up large reservoirs and sub reservoirs for irrigation purpose. Most civilizations developed on river water irrigation systems. But ours is different than them. Take up examples Nuwara wewa, Thopawewa, Minneriya wewa, Yoda wewe (Giant Tank- mannar District), Parakrama Samudraya etc. I can give you a list of 500 or more names. We grew rice and every fruits and veges and we were self sufficient till 1815 British invasion. Only British invaders started to import our food items.
Our own architectural creations are in Anuradhapura and Pollonnaruwa civilizations. World’s tallest brick monument is Jethawana Chaitiya, Second tallest is Abayagiri chaitya and university and third tallest is Ruwanwelli chaitya and Buddhist university. These were built under Sinhala civilization. Aukana statue, Sigiriya fortress, five-storied lowamahapaya library, Pollonnaruwa Gal Viharaya are some of the finest of Sinhala civilization. In our civilization we had Buddhist universities in Abayagiri and Mahaviharaya. We have our own literature, poems, dramas, dance, cultural festivals, art, craft etc. All these creation are from our Sinhala Buddhist civilization
For a moment imagine that if without Buddhism and Sinhala language what we will be? Then Lanka would be another negligible district of Tamil Country. Or non-important island of tamil nadu fishermen’s similar to Andaman, Nicobar or Lakadive.
Then religions of this land no doubt tamil nadu religion. If so we have to go to Kovil in bare bodied and crawling towards the man created gods. We have to pray for every gods including Cow’s, Rats, Snakes, monkey’s, half elephant half human creature, six headed twelve hands alien skanda etc. Woman has to worship and press her body parts on Shiva Linga (Shiva’s penis) to get pregnant. According to tamil religion we all have born in Lord Brahmas body parts. The priests (Brahmin) came from Lord Brahma’s mouth. The kings, Ministers and other administrators (Kshshtriya) came out of L/ B’s shoulders. The traders and farmers (Vaishya) came out of L/ Bs thighs. The rest (Shudras) came out of L/B’s toe. That is the caste based social structure of tamil religion. The majority of the society (shudras) is slaves or non-touchable semi humans. Is this the society we wanted instead of Sinhala culture? Education rights only for priests and kings. Vaishya and Shudras cannot preach Vedic mantra even. Shudras men and women were not allowed to cover top part of body.
Land ownership only to rich landlords. Workers are slaves they had no rights even landlord had a right to kill his slaves. (To avoid slavery in 18th century they went to British captured lands as Coolies, labors, scavengers, soldiers or farmers. They went to Sri Lanka Malaysia, Myanmar, Fiji, Australia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Africa, Mauritius, West Indies, British Guyana, Jamaica, and Trinidad). During British era some slaves managed to move to cities like Bombay, Culcutta and lived in slums.
Women were slave for lifetime. She called as “pada pari charika” (Who lives near husband’s toe). When husband’s cremation time wife thrown to pyre. If not she had to live whole life with shaved hair. She had no right to decide her life.
Then we will not be Sunils, Priyantha’s but we will be Suppaiahs, Karupahias, Pillais, Kandasamis, and Velusami’s. Our main food will be sambar with dosa, vaddai, idly or odiyal (palmyrah roots).
Priyantha in which Lanka you prefer to live. Under the Sinhala civilization or tamil civilization?
July 28th, 2010 at 12:41 am
Sorry folks. I have to type in this long one following comment by Sri Rohana? Rohana, I appreciate the content in your comment. But can you quote my words that insulted Sinhala people? You have to read the text a few times like I do to avoid mistakes. I insulted Sinhala people 20 years back and received a life sentence (20 years) as penalty. Did you read the list of insults hurled by Sunil that I listed? What do you say?
Don’t you think that you insulted me in the worst possible manner by saying that “may be you are disappointed on the death of your sun Goat Velupillai Prabakaran?”. It amounts to an insult if we make false accusations and attribute things that are not true. Did I lie about anybody when I used the more understandable words? When I say cannibals instead of Jewish Christians ( any one who believes that faith), it is not an insult, but a simple set of words that truly reflect what they are. Do you think I insulted them? Then what they do as part of their regular ritual? Is it eating bread and drinking wine only? I made many comments at Lanka Web for a while, only web I though would have visitors who got a little bit of brain to learn and change. Can you quote a single instance where I had any good thing to say about Tamils? If you read this article and comments you can see that clearly. I hope you did not get misled by content written by Sunil. Probably I could be the only one who wanted to see VP and all his kith and kin gone based on a good reason. If I am disappointed, it may be because we did not use VP to wipe his kind out and rub the noses of monkeys who trained them until they are also finished before sending him to hell.
Your use of word Buddhism is contradictory. I assume that you refer to Hindu-Buddhism, the religious cult evolved within the Hindu community based on a few values borrowed from ancient Sinhala knowledge that was returned blended with poisonous suicidal ideals to Sinhala community by missionaries coming from the subcontinent who were ably supported by the half-Tamil monarchy. The time Hindu-Buddhists could cheat Sinhala people by intertwining Hindu-Buddhism and Sinhala civilization are coming to an end soon. Addition of -ism is an English thing. The word Buddha refers generally to “intelligent person” and there were many who held that tittle within the Sinhala civilization long before the coming of the Prince Siddhartha claiming this title. By the way I met a lot of Hindus who always say that they know everything. Belief in Buddhas existed in Lanka long before the arrival of your faith. Let me tell you that as Sinhala-Buddhism. I do not think that you are referring to that version. I already gave an indication of what Hindu-Buddhists did to Sinhala civilization. Why did they burn mountains of ancient literature if they were what you think (check Mahawamsa – actually it should be Mahawansa, but bit like Simhala instead of Sinhala)? This topic is too long to discuss here. Please do the home work before claiming to be a follower.
Your notion of riverside civilization is a very recent event. When we were in the wild, I do not think that we ever went close to a river because of the fear of becoming food for a carnivore. We may have lived up the trees at some point of evolution out of fear, a clear justification for our monkey shape. But I value my ability to move my fingers according to my thought more as my effort to teach that skill to a pet did not succeed at all. What about other such skills that we have?
Your list of remains of ancient structures is exemplary. You claim that you are a son of them. Can you do better? You know what Sinhala people say to children who cannot follow their parents? Do you know that items you listed were found by English hunters? Do you know the reason for these places to be cleansed of Sinhala people? I have a CD sold by Hindu-Buddhists that indicates one aspect of that treacherous conduct by monarchy making the Sinhala population to abandon the north. It is the arbitrary taxes imposed on local community to support Buddhist institutions? Dutu Gamunu era ended with bankruptcy. If Hindu-Buddhism has achieved so much during last two and half millennia, why we have come so close to the abyss now? I say they were a major factor that contributed to the demise of Sinhala civilization. You talk about the splendor of Sinhala civilization running to 2500 years. Unfortunately, I am talking of a civilization that goes back at least more than 30,000 years. I say I am a real son of Sinhala people because I know the meaning of the word Sinhala. Imagine if it means donkey, will you claim that you are a donkey? I do even if it means that. I go further and say that I can offer means to afford 450 million of my kind who would not bow their heads even to an idiot like Lordshit Brahma, without taking back Sinhala land now relabeled as Tamil Nadu by Tamil squatters. I can drain all the tanks that you referred to and still guarantee a perennial supply of water to grow every plant in that area (without using Mahaweli scheme). Can you do that?
You give too much credit to Hindu Buddhists who deserve none. I hope you know that Europeans called Arabic numerals, and later Indian numerals to widely used numbering system. Do you know that they were originally created by ancient Sinhala people? Do you know that the words Demala and Hindu represent ancient Sinhala words still in use with the original meanings among the real Sinhala people with almost no change? You laugh at Tamils for what they did in 18th century. Don’t you think that we have become today what they were then? What are we doing in English occupied lands? I feel ashamed and want to regain my Sinhalaness. Do you? Let us have a contemporary view. Who should go into history as the true builder of Hambanthota Harbor, Chinese or MR? Do you think that the current design creating the harbor inside the land is an absurd one hindering loading/unloading process?
Tamils worship things you said because they never changed a bit. Why do you worship human remains, trees, clay heaps, other humans and many other things including Tamil things standing at the four corners of temples? That Shiva (also Zeus) you said was an ancient Sinhala king famed for potency. Do you know how children were produced by women during ancient times and who fathered them? When you say a lot about Lordshit Brahma, I wonder whether you believe any fool and give credence to anyone. Sadly, we are not doing any better. This is why I make a lot of comments to find people who can help correct that. Yes I can do a lot more than I would reveal in my comments.
July 28th, 2010 at 7:12 am
This man is a Tamil freak- the type that followed Prabhakaran, and now his phantom. No Sinhala even a Catholic or even a Sri Lanka Tamil will write about the Buddha the way he wrote.
He should be left alone to write his noncensicle jabberings. It is better that these type of intruders are kept away from this forum. The editor to note.
July 28th, 2010 at 8:44 pm
Mr Abeywickrama is not a Tamil.
There is some turth is his words. If you look visit most Buddhist temples you could see the Hindu influence. This is why he call it Hidu-Buddhism.
But he is not entirely correct. Hindusm should actually read “Buddist- Hinduism”.
There is no worshipping of anyone in real Buddhism. Real Sinhala Buddhist need not follow the typical “puja” aspects, “prirth nool” etc.
I wonder Mr. Abeywickrama is a heavy meditator who saw his previous births, his parents , grand parents and great-great grand parents to make sure that he does not belong to a mixed race. How can he be so sure ?
What I do not understand is why he talks like Hitler. I aslo do not understand why any good human cannot be a good, cultured , considerate person without a stupid religion.
I als don’t understand why Mr. Abeywickrama cannot be a true Sinhala Buddhist.
July 29th, 2010 at 3:05 am
kolita where were you all this time? Why were you so silent to my other comments? You are the second one who said I am Tamil. Actually you go further. Please do not give Tamils such credibility. Next time call me a mongrel dog as I love it more because dogs are thousand times better. Dogs live like dogs, but not like migrants who have no clear identity. First, try to prove me wrong and then tell whatever comes to your mouth. I hope you are not related to the other one (MUdali). I laid out some facts following the insinuation of the word “Wasalaya” by Sunil using words of Buddha. Even Wasalaya is a better term than calling me a Tamil. There are rules that people should follow if others want to do the same. If not for that, I would not type in the “real truth” though there is nothing wrong to tell about the other side of those who try to be saviours of human kind. The original meaning of this word was “someone not fit to be human”. Such humans were forced to carry human waste. Though I restrain from telling how such people were created, a despicable early human act by itself, nobody should try to judge other humans by such names under any circumstances. It is not different to using obscene words that makes anyone using such language to be considered gutter type. If someone who claims to be the compassionate one, they should know better not to get into using such labels on other beings under any circumstances. What about the saying “Gedara Buddhun Amma”. No mother I know would do such things to their siblings as did Buddha. My own mother took my elder brother home by force when she realised an attempt to ordain him by deception. I wish all mothers are like her to ensure life for all their siblings. This is the faith that took away the lives of many intelligent Sinhala kids who could have helped to maintain the great achievements of the ancient Sinhala civilisation. Today they have become parrots repeating the same old ….. as they did for the last two and half millennia. Does it do any good to the nation? During conflicts, they get slaughtered like flies instead of doing things to depend their people. It is time to come to grips and even do the unthinkable if it has to done.
The best thing the editor of this web site could do to me is to remove my access to make comments, or even deny access to site. Then I can save my time. If not for my guilt of being a migrant at least for a while, I could have enjoyed the misery of myths you believe, the life in hell you deserve and the doomed future lurking in front of you. One of my reasons to make comments was to find people running this web including the editor. Now I have the details. A local site even blocked me access to their site for a comment I made against English a long time ago. Now, it is common for everyone to have a go at English. But later, they not only let me access, but even used my comments for their advantage. Unfortunately, I decided enough is enough and do not visit that site any more. If anyone think Lanka web is that great, do it please. You really help me because my making of comments is a privilege that you hardly can afford to if money is involved.
Nanda thank you for your comments. Many people live their lives entangled in deception, false belief and committing self harm not knowing what the reality is. There are a few who can see at least some part of that life as not true. Only a very few can break the bondage of life in Toto. Someone tell me why there are so many people who believe that they are Sinhala, but live with English. I wish everyone who visit this site have a go at me. I enjoy it very much as it is a good source of whims and fancies. Sinhala people had their own belief long before Hindu Buddhism came to haunt them. EVERY HUMAN ON EARTH DOES FOLLOW ONE OF THEIR ANCIENT CONCEPTS NOT EVEN KNOWING ITS ORIGIN. I used the word Hindu Buddhism because the foundation of this belief is Hindu society. All concepts including Karma come from Hinduism. It is only an individual effort to revise an established social value system. This is same for Christianity. All the underlying values are based on original Jewish social values and it is an individual effort to re-interpret them. When these individual efforts are forced upon other cultures they get blended and become achcharu type. For the ordinary people normal ka-vu-ng and poisoned ka-vu-ng look the same. The other religions also have a strong foundation built on values of the society where they sprang such as Arabic culture. Those who do not fit into such cultures can be considered as victims who become entangled in such beliefs under force, deception or intermingling. Nanda can you tell me what is your race/s and why you identify yourself so. You called me Hitler. MUdali said the same. During ancient times, Hindus called natives of Lanka as devils. Even early Buddhist missionaries called them devils. Check out the early part of Mahawansa for the tone of language. I have two versions of Mahawnsa sitting next to me even now. I wish you do.
I do not care about whether I am Sinhala or not. But I have come across Sinhala people, lived with them, learnt about them and have benefited immensely from them. As a knowledge researcher, I also know that they carry the key to human future. Obviously, most of you using English are just beneficiaries of their goodness and hardly show any signs to compare with them. I would not make comments unless I find articles carrying Sinhala bashing under whatever pretext. I already listed a few grand statements included in this article stereotyping Sinhala people. When people do such things, it is the least damaging to write a comment in response. Please do not ignore that I know how to do better things as well if required. Please try to find the true meaning of what you parrot when it come to your faiths.

Priyantha I have to apologies for my misunderstanding on your comment. Since I had several commitments last few days sorry for the delay. Your view on Pre-Mahawansa era history is great and you are one of the best-resourced personnel to write on that topic.
Even I too don’t agree with some Sinhala writers those who say that our history begins with the Vijaya and clans and says Princes Kuweni as a yaksa woman, and her son Prince Deegahasta, Princes Vishala as the first of indigenous Lankans? This is a greatest insult to us by our own historians and media personals. But the same media personals addresses to brutal british feudalist woman as “Queen mother” the sex maniacs Charles as “Prince Charles” and Diana as “Princes Diana”? Her natural cause “a death” is shown in our Television in live from morning till evening continuously? But our greatest artist Professor Sarathchandras funeral not even showed in the National Television at least five minutes? Chandrika and Colombans slave mentality?
Late Henri Jayasena’s “Kuweni” drama addresses this issue very clearly. Arisen Ahubudu is knowledgeable personal on this topic and I read few articles written by him. Even Jackson Anthony’s “Maha Sancharaya” discusses this issue again.
I totally agree with Manu, Tharaka, Bali, Rawana were few great kings ruled Lanka before Mahawansa era. Your “Manu na arama” and “Mantota” or “Mahathiththa” is it the same port? According to Babylonian civilization’s “UR” era Babylonians came to this port and many items exported from Mahathiththa. In early1900’s archeologists found several Greek, Roman, Persian and Arab coins and pottery from this port.
If so Thirukethiswaran Kovil built on great Mahathiththa port area and I heard there are 30 acres archeological site in the Kovil land but tamil racists doesn’t allow excavating or further researches.
“Silavasthupura”/“Silawathura” in Mannar district was famous for natural pearl. I heard even Cleopatra imported pearl for her crown from Silavasthupura.
The great Sinhala king Mahasena built Yoda Wewa (“Giant Tank”) near Murunkan in Mannar District (He who constructed world’s tallest brick monument Jethawana Pagoda). It is obvious that our Sinhala district Mannar now over taken by tamil migrants. Most tamil illegal migrants come through Talai mannar island and settled down in Mannar district and now claimed that this is their historical homeland?? In Mannar population statistics at least 90% are either real illegal migrants or second-generation illegal migrations to Lanka. This is the tamil expansionism and Chelvanayakam, Prabakaran, M.G Ramachandran, Karunanidhi encourage expansionism openly.
Mahinda and Gotabaya’s heroic war against tamil racisms reversed this idea temporary but again Washington, London, Oslo catholic axis’s triangle and Delhi, Chennai, Killinochchi tamil axis triangle is still work together to give our motherland again to racist tamil expansionist movement.
If they take over our motherland we may not have a chance to talk either Mahawansa era history or Pre-Mahawansa era history that both belongs to us. Hope Priyantha as a great resourced personal you will contribute your knowledge to Lankaweb that will enable Sri Lankans to learn our real history. If we know our history then we have a claim and we can justify our action.

Thank you Rohana. You do not need to apologise for anything. We must express our views as we know it. Only skill we have to develop is to verify the accuracy of what we express and our own source when challenged. As you mentioned, contemporary history begins with Hindu history that overwhelmingly referring to ancient devils in Lanka. No wonder for calling ancient Sinhala people as devils in return for cutting the tails of some humans, mostly as a cultural event but occasionally by force. This is not an insult at all. I suggest everyone to check their tail end for an unusual scar of cutting off a part of the body. Some of the scars can be linked to a horrific effort to get rid of a body part. There may be some lucky ones like me, who may have a naturally disappearing end of the tail end with little or no scar. I hope you may understand why there were references in ancient history about monkeys. That was not like modern day abuse of words to insult others, but was a reflection of reality. Likewise, there is an ancient reference to forest dwellers, an important factor to find some clues to ancient human evolution. Divali festival that mixes both extremes of love and hatred at the same time itself tells a lot about ancient history. There are many historical resources that connect pre-Mahawansa Sinhala civilisation to many other offshoot civilisations with limited time span. I wish I could elaborate on my comments. When all the others are considered, the modern human history (made of humans living outside the wild) narrows down to a single civilisation pioneered by ancient Sinhala people. Natural progression of humans spreading to all corners of the world also confirm the same. That part is more interesting.
Tamils and Hindus know a lot more than we do about our own history because they never had a life without it. But they use our ignorance as an excuse to hide the truth. I wish you noted MUdali telling in one of his comments that they come from Hela (Elu – a Tamilised – poorly pronounced – Sinhala word) people. This word is a shorter version of the word “Sinhala” that links one of the oldest words with a single sound and is also related to an animal that we all know though so ignorant. If you ask a Tamil to pronounce that word referring to an animal, they would go an say Elu instead of the proper word. The other word derived from this is Loku (large – this funny English word also comes from the same original sound partly made of “L” sound). I said before that “Sinhala” is a word made of two words referring to two animals. CAN SOMEONE GUESS IT PLEASE? Such discoveries are very important and point to a culture of permanence and continuity than an ad hoc collection of individuals coming from many places. Language is one of the best keys to find the history as the language skills are directly related to human evolution, the main difference between humans and others. Let me give another interesting twist on words. One of the oldest Sinhala words refers to one of the essential things in life. In Sinhala, it is called by the name Watura. Interestingly in English, it remains Water(a). The origin of the word comes from the sound (Chora, chora – even today it is the sound combination used to describe water coming down during raining). I wish you admire Sinhala language now for its very ancient origin. I say it is the language of knowledge.
Refer your comment, I would like to see those contributing to Lankaweb, do more research and enlighten the community. The methods I employ do not have assumptions, presumptions or any ulterior motives as found in some gene research that you all came to know through Lankaweb, and are very different to the normal practice of depending on archaeological facts, which could give some info on dead civilisations. Ours is a living civilisation that will last due to its lasting principles. So I suggest to check within to find who we are instead of relying on others or on remains left behind by the most unfortunate ones buried under extreme conditions. In a world where proper burials take place, finding a dead person buried under mud/rubble does not really reflect the real society. Sinhala being the only civilisation that live with the nature (the most important principle of a lasting civilisation – leaving the world at the end of life in the same way as it was at birth), finding something similar to a trail of destruction left behind by other civilisations is a trivial exercise. This fact alone proves the truth in the other way if we try to find a place with the nature in its originality thriving side by side with humans, which should be our origin. Actually all the clues to our ancient history lies in our own current history that we know very well. In a lasting civilisation, principles do change very little. Refer my words inside brackets above, if we can leave the world at the end of life at least a bit better than it was at our birth, we are contributing to build heaven on earth over time.
Confrontation is the time tested natural practice employed by all the beings big and small to verify facts from fiction. There will be a time we learn things in the best possible way, I mean using our own natural senses that see the natural truth. Unfortunately, using English demands measures to limit exposure of invaluable tools that are employed to find the natural history, the history recorded by nature as it happens.
Obviously, I tend to make comments about Tamils with contempt for many reasons. There are Sinhala people who can do many things that hardly many of us could understand. The fear in our minds about the future may be more to do with our own future than that of the whole civilisation. Especially, those living outside the country may feel such fear because their own future is in danger due to external pressures. I am unable to tell more on this conflict at the moment. But rejection, contempt, cursing and complaining have the same results as doing physical moves to fight our enemies. There are some activities beyond our natural range of senses that have more control over what happens around us than ourselves who could be just the pawns in greater events. I find that ancient Sinhala people not only knew these things, but were capable of employing them, an interesting find for someone who went through the western education system. This coincidence is one of the major reasons for me to stand by Sinhala people every time.
The northern part of the country was the hub of ancient Sinhala rule that dealt with far and wide interests. There are a lot of animals let to live there. Unfortunately those trespassing and squatting that land are the most unfortunate ones, if history is anything. Once it was occupied by Orissans (MUDali was right when he said so) who got access through religion and Royal connections. Then came Kalinga Maga from Orissa who left a trail of destruction. What was left of Sinhala people escaped to south. The Orissans were destroyed by one of their own. Tamils did the same many times and paid the same price. Then most recently, VP did the same to his own kind and we are seeing the end of another episode. Tamils have said what Sinhala people would do to them though it was a lie to the naked eye. Tamils are the best when it comes to what behold for them in the future. We have the Nature that decide certain things that lay beyond us .Let the nature take its course as some of the species who cannot keep up with nature have to disappear and re-mould. I feel more comfortable than many of you about the future for more reasons and wish I could reveal more about those. I wish all of you too become part of the future than losing out to the wild.
