Sri Lanka Foundation will host the 4th ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Sri Lanka Day ExpoƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ on Saturday, August 7th 2010 at 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, CA. His Excellency Jaliya Wickramasuriya, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to U.S.A will be the Chief Guest at ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Sri Lanka Day Expo 2010ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚.
Since its inception in 2006, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Sri Lanka Day ExpoƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ has become the biggest event held in U.S.A dedicated to promoting Sri Lankan culture, Sri Lankan food, Sri Lankan businesses and Sri Lanka as a tourist destination. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
10.00 AM – Opening Ceremony
A traditional Sri Lankan ceremony to begin Sri Lanka Day Expo with the lighting of a oil lamp and the invoking of blessings with special dancers. This will take place at the stage near Wilshire Blvd.
10.00 AM – Sri Lankan Curry Food Festival
The favorite Sri Lankan foods available are Hoppers-crispy pancake type item made with many a twirl. The edges are crispy and the middle is soft. Usually eaten with meat or vegetarian curry. Rice and curry-made Sri Lankan style. Kottu Roti-similar to a mongolian barbecue-made with eggs, meat and vegetables-a treat to watch the cooking and taste good! String hoppers-soft stringy type item accompanied by curry. Pol rotti-bread made of flour and coconut-served with spicy onions or curry. Sri Lankan savory short eats-thatƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s the name for Sri Lankan snacks similar to Tapas and Empanadas-once you start with these you can’t stop!
This will take place on the promenade in the block between Arizona and Santa Monica.
11.00 AM – Rhythms of Sri Lanka
Performances showcasing traditional Sri Lankan dancers, drummers and folk theatre. This will take place at the stage near Wilshire Blvd from 11.00 AM to 4.00 PM.
4.00 PM – Pageant of Lanka
A parade with colorfully dressed Sri Lankan performers depicting the multi cultural elements of Sri Lanka through dance. This parade has more than one hundred performers and a theatre elephant. This will begin at the stage near Wilshire Blvd and parade through the Promenade to Santa Monica Blvd and back.
6.00 PM – Live Bands
Dance the night away to the Sri Lankan bands. This will take place at the stage near Wilshire Blvd.
