It was Sweet Victory for the explosive Sri Lankan Cricketers as they lifted the ARY ODI Trophy at Sharjah in the final against Pakistan the odds on favourites in an exciting game won by 77 runs by Sri Lanka in a superb all round team performance.

Having won the toss and decided to bat, Skipper Sanath Jayasuriya led the way to a huge total of 298 for 7 wkts in their 50 overs with a swashbuckling 70 runs which included three sixes followed by elegant knocks of 89 and 51 by Vice Capt. Marvan Atapattu and Mahela Jayawardena respectively whose innings also included three sixes.

In reply the Pakistanis who got off to thundering start while maintaining a run rate of over 9.15 per over for the first 15 overs eventually collapsed in the middle order with the exception of Saeed Anwar who top scored with an elegant 50 and Malik with 41 who held the Lankans at bay briefly but the outcome was never in doubt after the initial collapse which left Pakistan reeling at 167 for 7 due to brilliant fielding and penetrative bowling.

This was an incredible performance by the Sri Lankans who displayed great talent, decorum and courage to take on the Pakistanis and beat them in literally their own backyard as the Sharjah Crowds are mostly pro-Pakistani who gave little thought to a Sri Lankan win.

The Tournament Organisers deserve a big hand for an excellent effort as always and our congratulations to Sanath Jayasuriya and the Sri Lankan Team who are back on top!.
