Norway's Mediation On behalf Of The De-Banning Of The LTTE By The US Government - In Perspective

Duttagamini Singhaputra World Council Of Sinhala Peers For LankaWeb

The Government of Norway which is known globally for bipartisan meddling in the internal affairs of other countries under the guise of being Peace Facilitators much in the same context perhaps as the Central Intelligence Agency a decade ago has now recommended a removal of the ban on the LTTE in the United States.

Although any chance of this manifesting into reality are widely remote unless the LTTE officially document and sign an agreement to de-commission weapons, discontinue their arms and armament stockpiling, child and cadre conscriptions and the quest for secession, mediation by Countries such as Norway could provide a distraction based on false promises by the LTTE whose deeper intent based on a hidden agenda in collaboration with the UNF Administration sent underground and the issue of de banning the LTTE porioritised through sheer subterfuge initiated by Norway which would then pre empt the primary importance of keeping the tigers de-clawed and a travesty of justice. That is if the US Government has not already envisioned the transparencies involved.

The LTTE could well believe themselves to be within reach of their goals as the Ranil Wickremasinghe Administration has previously given them inspiration to believe that their credibilities are acceptable although the latest counter devolution proposal of the LTTE has demanded much more than is rationally permissible (NOW EVEN DEMANDING FULL CONTROL OF LAND IN THE NORTH AND NORTH EAST WHICH IS SOMEWHAT PREPOSTEROUS CONSIDERING THE DANGER IT WOULD POSE TO THE MINORITIES IN THE REGIONS WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY!)
without compromising Sovereignity and Territorial Integrity and a great cause of concern for the Sinhala Nation whose concerns would be compounded if the USA de-banned the LTTE who would undoubtedly power their way through the democracy and freedom of Sri Lanka at will which would surely be a foregone conclusion and a Regional Disaster.

It is an indelible reality that the LTTE in their present guise as terrorists Cannot Be Granted Any Reprieve Or Recognition As Their Criminalities Both Past and Present Need ToBe Addressed, Their Leader Handed Over to An International Tribunal of Justice Or The Indian Government And Norway Should Desist Continuing to Champion The LTTE And Take Up The Cause Of The Tamil People Without LTTE Representation As A Viable Option Which Would Also Grant Them Some Credibility If Any Is Permissible Considering Their Track Record And The Conflict Of Interest Consideriong the Degree to Which Norway Enfolds A Huge Pro LTTE Tamil Population Within Norway !!
The recent involvement of a Norwegian Peace Monitor whose interference prevented a Sri Lankan Navy Search and Destroy Mission of an LTTE shipment of illegal arms is a clear example that Norway's credibilities towards Sri Lankan peace are biased and Bi -Partisan at best regardless of explanations to the contrary and it seems rather curious that based on many past indiscretions committed by the SLMM the Government has done nothing stringent to confront and if necessary shut down the SLMM operations by Norway and re designate them to an independed non aligned entity perhaps as a rational alternative.

To respond to the insistence of LTTE propagandists that the USA should go easy on the LTTE on the basis that 'Many Countries were inviting them for dialogue with a softer approach' it is an error of judgement on the part of these countries and a waste of the taxpayer's money to consort with a terror group and its representation regardless of the rhetoric of false propaganda when to all intents and purposes the LTTE continue to remain a terrorist organization of ill repute who have never relented for past attrocities and the devastation caused within a Sovereign Nation ! However it is also noted that the empathy shown to the LTTE amounts to a Global Concensus to eliminate a huge dilemma and hence understandable despite its futility!

It has to be considered that the issue involves grave crimes they must atone for and somewhat ridiculous for any Democratic Nation to consider re-classifying them unless they capitulate to the norms of the free world and all its peace loving citizens and convince everyone concerned including the USA genuinely, their intentions to merge into mainstream Sri Lankan Society which they have vehemently refused to do in their quest for a distinct society also known as Eelam!
What follows would hardly need rocket science to deduce the implications such a de-banning would have by way of responses from other banned terror groups posing a global threat.

The ultimate reality being outlined through USA information sources that The United States Government has emphatically stated earlier this month that quote "It could only revoke the ban on LTTE if the organisation renounces terrorism and puts an end to all its terrorist acts and that although the LTTE was engaged in a peace process with the Government of Sri Lanka -- a process that the US fully supports - it had determined that the LTTE continues to engage in 'terrorist activities'!
The United States will consider revoking the LTTE designation as an Foreign
Terrorist Organization and will be prepared to deal with the group as a legitimate political entity in Sri Lanka only after the organisation renounces terrorism and ceases terrorist acts,'' the statement said.

FACT OF THE MATTER BEING THERE CAN BE NO CONCESSIONS TO TERRORISTS NOR COMPROMISES WHICH WOULD BIFURCATE THE PRINCIPLES OF DEMOCRACY AND A POINT FOR THE PRESENT ADMINISTRATION TO PONDER UPON WITH THE COGNIZANCE THAT PRIME IMPORTANCE MUST BE GIVEN TO THE CONSIDERATION
NEVER TO COMPROMISE THE PEACE WHICH HAS LASTED THUS FAR WHICH NEEDS TO BE HEEDED BY THE TAMIL COMMUNITY ALSO!
De-Banning the LTTE in their present image therefore would be foolhardy and something the
the US Government seems determined in the best interests of the world not to implement where Norway's mediations on behalf of the LTTE indicate a felt need for refusal!!
