The question of an apology

Sarath de Silva

After reading the article on the matter of a public apology to the Tamil
people for what happened in 1983 I gave some very serious thought to it and
decided that such an action is appropriate, productive for avoiding the
break up of our country, and logical.

It has to be an unreserved apology wihtout trying to find the root causes or
who was responsible and who was not for those terrible events.

Such an apology will go a long way in negating the totally wrong image the
outside world have on our ethnic problem and their inherent tendency to
blame the 'majority'(really, only in numbers and not in in the matter of who
commands power and decision making).
