RE: Blasting Tamil Myths

Ashanti Munaweera Vancouver, B.C.

I write in response to the recent article by Dr. Eric Wimalaweera "Blasting Tamil Myths". After reading his article, I was ashamed to call my self a Sri Lankan and a Sinhalese at that. I was grateful to get away from the stereo typing of ethnic cultures and for having the opportunity to live in a country that looks at all of us as one.

It is quite obvious that Dr. Wimalaweera has not done his research on Dr. Indira Samarasekera. I myself live in Vancouver and do know her personally. We are all very proud of our fellow Sri Lankan and wish her all the best in her new position.

However, maybe the Tamil Myth as you call it is not a Myth. Dr. Samarasekera hails from a very distinguished Tamil Family in Sri Lanka. Her father being a prominent Doctor in Sri Lanka. The now retired Dr. Arulpragasam. Maybe an apology should be forthcoming to all Sri Lankans for this way of thinking.
