SRI LANKA ARMY SUCCESSFULLY REACHES EAST SIDE OF THE SLUICE GATE OF MAVIL ARU AND ESTABLISHES A COMMUNICATION CENTER

By Walter Jayawardhana

The Sri Lanka Army troops have now successfully reached the East side of the Mavil Aru sluice gates and put up a communication center to exchange messages with other army units.

The Mavil Aru army unit who have completed a hazardous path to the sluice gates losing about nine soldiers so far including officers will reach the West side of the gates , believed to be more hazardous and will soon open the closed sluice gates with the help of the engineers , Sri Lanka’s defense spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella said.

The job of the army team became extremely difficult since the terrorist group buried minefields around the sluice gates, according to other sources of the army.

The army unit before reaching the East side of the sluice gates consolidated its power by digging bunkers there in preparation of a terrorist attack.

The West side of the sluice gates is facing a big open space and the enemy has been using that side to target their mortars at the security forces.

It is also believed that the West side also contain more minefields making it difficult to reach the other side but it is believed the army will be cautiously working on it until the sluice gates are open without any casualties.

Rambukwella said the government would enter any discussion with the terrorist group if the LTTE is ready to open the closed gates. “After opening the water we will enter into any discussion within ten minutes”, Rambukwella assured.

“The stoppage of water to the farmers was something we could not wait years discussing like the other matters. We will start any discussions and see what could be granted immediately after the water starts flowing in the irrigation canal,” Rambukwella said.

Rasiah Ilancheriyan , the military spokesman of the LTTE said the government should enter into discussions with the poor people who closed the water and to start discussions the LTTE would assist. All reports indicate that it was the LTTE who closed the sluice gates and Ilancheriyan is lying.
