Meet the main
protagonists of The Pearl Fishers

This will be a great opportunity for all the journalists to meet the
most renowned protagonists and the sponsors of The Pearl Fishers which
will be held on 9 & 11 January 2008 at BMICH.
Benjamin Levy, the conductor is one of the most talented European
conductors. In Colombo, he will conduct some lead musicians from the
Pelleas Orchestra, that he co-founded in 2004 in Paris, along with musicians
from Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka and Indian musicians for the joined
Sri Lankan-Indo-French production of the Pearl Fishers opera. Ajith
Abeysekera, the assistant conductor of the opera from the National
Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka that he joined in 1969.
Patricia Panton, the stage director is world renowned, and also
worked with all the greatest singers and conductors. Resident producer
and director of productions at the Opera of Monte Carlo for over 20
years, Mrs. Panton dedicates herself to staging operas all over the
world.
Born in Mumbai Aude Priya-Engel, the soprano in the role of
Leila sang the lead role in The Fakir of Benares in India 2002, Leila
in The Pearl Fishers 2005, Zerlina in Mozart's Don Giovanni, Mickaela
in Bizet's Carmen and Violetta in Verdi's Traviata in 2006-2007.
Vikrant Subramaniam, the Baritone in the role of Zurga is 18
years old, trained by The Neemrana Music Foundation and sent in France
for several French workshops for one year.
Philippe Désandré, The Bass in the role of Nourabad,
sang Zarastro (Zauberflöte), the Commendatore (DonGiovanni), Bartolo
and Antonio (Nozze di Figaro), Coline (La Bohême), Ramfis (Aïda)
Jamie Allen was the major winner in the Australian Singing Competition's
Opera Awards In 1998. He maintained his association with OA in 2006
with leading roles in Madama Butterfly, Jenufa, Batavia and The Marriage
of Figaro - this was followed by major concert appearances in Sydney,
Perth and New Zealand in 2007.
Menaka de Fonseka, choir conductor, has also been soloist with
orchestra in Handel's "Messiah", Saint Saens' "Christmas
Oratorio" and works by Deva Surya Sena to name but a few. A winner
of the SAARC Women's Association award for music in 2002.
Gabriella Boda Rechner, Delhi choir conductor, Hungarian she
is choir conductor of about 12 choirs in India. She is a specialist
of Koday music.
Antoine Redon, Executive Producer Since 2007 he has organised
around fifteen concerts and operas as "Dido and Aeneas" by
Henry Purcell and will stage "Carmen" in April 2008.
Senaka de Silva, production coordinator Another well known sri
Lankan stage designer, who is long been renowned for incorporating Sri
Lankan cultural, historical and social themes into his creations. will
be also present on this day.
