UN Security Council must investigate US and NATO war crimes in AfghanistanAjit RandeniyaHiding behind a diversionary campaign of demands for a ceasefire in Sri Lanka based on bogus humanitarian concerns, the US and NATO are carrying out mass murders of Afghan civilians on a daily basis. The cabal of international community who constantly lecture Sri Lanka and complain about Sri Lanka to the UN security council do not seem to be concerned about these ghastly murders. Just today, on 5 May, Afghan officials reported a massacre of more than 100 civilians near the village of Ganjabad in Bala Baluk district, near the border with Iran. In bombing this Taliba-controlled area, the US has not followed the same degree of restraint or care to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe. The shameful massacre involves one of the highest civilian death tolls yet from the senseless US and NATO bombing of Afghanistan. The puppet president Hamid Karzai, speaking at the Brookings Institution in Washington, one of the so-called Think Tanks that come out with the pseudo-intellectual theories to justify their crimes, pathetically pleaded: This war against terrorism will succeed only if we fight it from a higher platform of morality. In fact, some analysts have observed that the civilian massacre could have been deliberately carried out to reduce Kharzai winning the impending election. This is completely plausible in view of the current involvement of Richard Holbrooke, one of the biggest mass murderers in the history of mankind (if he is human!), as Obamas special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan. In the wake of this dastardly act, he has said in a statement prepared for Congress, that Pakistan must demonstrate its commitment to rooting out al-Qaida and the Taliban; he is used to ordering about sovereign nations as if they are part of their fiefdom. The other most noticeable duplicity relating to these despicable war crimes relates to the manner in which the Western oligopoly of wires report and Headline them: the current massacre is reported only as an adjunct to the inquiry the Pentagon, US government and Kharzai is promising. The AFP Headline aimed at deceiving the world read: US probes civilian deaths in Afghan clashes. The guardian angel of Sonali Samarasinghe and media freedom in general in Sri Lanka, The Guardian in the UK, Headlined: Pentagon vows US-Afghan investigation of civilian deaths from bombing. What is behind these hypocrites, the UK, US and the EU screams about Sri Lnka is their dishonest motive to divert world attention from the illegal, totally unnecessary killings in foreign lands. The UN General Assembly needs to be empowered if the world is to rid itself of these evil enterprises of the imperialists. The liberal media reports of these massacre should be the hand-out at the the next lecture of Miliband, Kouchner and Hilary Clinton on Humanitarianism, Human Rights and international obligations to protect civilian rights. |
