- PA election dirty tricks campaign
hits all time low
Sold its people, betrayed its valiant soldiers due to
political and personal agendas, failed miserably to eradicate terrorism
due to corruption, tried and failed to divide the country and now the
final sell out of decency continues. With the General Elections due
to be held on 10 October, violence and dirty tricks campaigns against
the main opposition parties have started earnestly. The biggest victim
so far has been the Sihala Urumaya (SU), the newly formed political
party to safeguard the interests of the majority Sinhalese community.
A report appearing in the Daily News, the government controlled newspaper
with the widest circulation, distorted all the names of the SU candidates
in the National List, so they were unrecognizable. Thousands of distorted
copies of SU Policy Statement are being sent by mail to the general
public. An appeal for funds, drafted in the worst possible English
is being faxed around the world with a wrong account number. The name
of the sender is printed as Sathis Wijetunga who, SU says, is not known
to them. Early this month, thugs believed to be supporters of the
ruling party, the Peoples Alliance, seriously assaulted four of the
SU candidates in Polonnaruwa. It is significant that none of the PA
candidates have suffered violence so far (Global
