Sir:
The report that “The United Nations human rights chief (Navi Pillay) took the extraordinary step Thursday of seeking to override a decision on Sri Lanka by the world’s body’s top rights assembly”, confirmed my hunch that the western bloc will not accept the impressive victory of Sri Lanka over them however abject the comedown were at the vote in Geneva, and that they wouldn’t lay bleeding on the floor and smarting for too long.
What this exercise showed was that the world was divided between the western bloc which represented 0.5 billion people and the Asian and African blocs which represented 4 billion people when it came to fighting terrorism in their lands. It further established that if Sri Lanka was brought in front of the International War Crimes Court that it would have dampened any enthusiasm by developing countries to fight terrorism which is usually the crucible of the horror cult which has tentacles reaching far out to western countries including Canada.
I sincerely hope that Canada will not support Navi Pillay’s call for an international investigation outside the Human Rights Council and let Sri Lanka go on with their healing process, rebuilding bridges between the minority Tamils and the majority Sinhalese, forging a path of equality and lasting peace. Sri Lanka deserves at least that much from Canada who have been a friend of Sri Lanka since its independence in 1948, at least until the last vote at the UN’s Human Rights Council.
What this exercise embarked by Navi Pillay will also prove that if you walk like a duck, quack like a duck and look like a duck, then you must be a duck. Thus it shows that Navi Pillay who is a Tamil from South Africa is no different from members of the same tribe as that of the Tamil Tigers as blood is thicker than water,
