INDIA SAYS SRI LANKA HAS NO PLANS TO PUT UP A MILITARY BASE AT KATCHATHEEVU ISLET

India has intimated that Sri Lanka does not have any plan to establish a military base in the island of katchatheevu .
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ When Communist Party of India MP D. Raja raised the question in the IndiaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Upper House of the Parliament, the Rajya Sabha, Minister of External Affairs S. M. Krishna said new Delhi had been so told by Colombo.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Krishna told Rajya Sabha that during the recent trip of Senior Advisor to the President Basil Rajapaksa, Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Secretary to the President , Lalith Weeratunga, the issue had been raised and the delegation said it did not contemplate putting up a military base at the islet between India and Sri Lanka , which was ceded to Sri Lanka in 1974.
