*Dear Friends of the UNP,*
This is not an appeal. This is not a letter sent by a campaign office. This is a letter from the heart sent by a group of UNP members who are very saddened and worried.
Read this letter. Listen to your heartbeat and then decide.
We are not against Mr. Ranil Wicremasinghe. However, we are saddened by what he has done to the United National Party, the grand old party we are so proud of. We have no one to represent us today. Who is Sarath Fonseka to us, members of the United National Party? Nobody. If Janaka Perera lived today and if he put him as a candidate we could have said proudly “He is our man. He is a UNP member” Can we say that about Sarath? Let us not forget how Sarath Fonseka harassed Janaka not allowing him even to meet with his former colleagues. It is the same Sarath Fonseka who is shedding crocodile tears for Janaka today.
Can we believe him? We remember how Janaka referred to Sarath. He called him a beggar. Can we blame Janaka for it? But, today, we members of the grand old party have become beggars in front of Sarath Fonseka. Can we trust him?
We are of the view that Ranil could have contested the elections. He would have got the support of the minorities and made a difference.
Sarath Fonseka is not our cup of tea or even coffee. He is a known racist. A respected UNP businessman and an INGO activist said “Mahinda will look thousand times better in front of Sarath Fonseka” We did not have to let down our friends in minority parties. Let us not forget that we are the UNITED NATIONAL party. What has happened to that United National Party today?
What do we know about Sarath Fonseka? Will he keep his word? We donƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t think so. Why do we say we cannot trust him? We donƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t have to go very far. Just look at the way he fell out with Mahinda and Gotabaya. What is the guarantee we, the United National Party will not face the same fate? It frightens us the way he speaks. He is angry and sounds very revengeful. Will the UNP be safe if he comes to power? I have heard even supporters of Mahinda and the PA saying that Ranil is known and he would not harm democracy.
We cannot trust Sarath with that. We cannot trust the JVP either. Do you think we can ever trust the JVP even if we trust the LTTE or the TNA? You donƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t need to understand rocket science to realize which party Sarath is tilting towards. Bloody Marxist JVP who hates us and who would not let us develop this country with our economic policies.
If Sarath comes it would be the end of the UNP and we will pave the way for a military regime. Yes. Fear is the key.
Think. Think. Think again.
