Dawn of a New Era – No Blackmail from EU & USA

Prof. Hudson McLean
The Country has spoken! Not Once but Twice! Loud & Clear.
A clear mandate is given to the incumbent President, H.E. Mahinda Rajapaksa to lead the country which HE salvaged from the thirty year old terrorist war.
With Peace returning to Sri Lanka, new ground is being created for inward investment, tourism and redevelopment.
The EU should reconsider its stance on GSP for Sri Lankan products.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ With already a close association with the Chinese, Iran, and other countries looking seriously at the strategic environment of the Island, do EU & USA still wish to push Sri Lanka away from their traditional historical relationship? Especially when their allies, the LTTE is no more?
President Mahinda Rajapaksa has demonstrated that he has Vision!
His brotherly advisors such as Gothabhaya and Basil have demonstrated that their contribution has been invaluable and most of all, be trusted.
TheƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ “king-makers” are more valuable than the “king” sometimes.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ However, when as Dr. Levins T.C. Rajaratnam has aptly pointed out, the Rajapaksa family is closely knit, with a sibling already making his mark in the political map.
Said that, with due respect to Dr. Rajaratnam, a Tamil, from an illustrious family, acting as the “spin-doctor”, paid or unpaid, with or without instructions from the Rajapaksa family, is rolling the RajapaksaƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ wagon, too hard.
The President does not need a “spin-doctor” to tell HE that HE should appoint his own brother as the Prime Minister.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The function of the PM is cosmetic and HE is the power behind the government.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ HE does not need to place his own brother to take care of the kitchen and sundries.
Basil, with his superior intellect can be far more useful as the silent power behind several Ministries to ensure that Bribery & Corruption is eliminated.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Unless Corruption is defeated, HE will not be able to realize his Vision to drive Sri Lanka to the same level as Singapore.
Furthermore, promoting and highlighting the Rajapaksa clan as the visible ruling family is counter-productive. It will create an un-necessary back-lash.
With the Sri Lankan security under the control of Gothabhaya, the citizens can sleep in peace.
With Basil providing the rear-guard, HE can move Sri Lanka into an over-drive, with speed whilst conserving the fuel.
And with the Dawn of a New Era – those who criticize for the sake of criticism should, Shut Up and Put Up!

I think Hudson is right. It is better for both Basil and Mahinda if Basil continue to do what he is doing at least for the time being. We haven’t seen Rajapakses jump the gun, have we? They are too smart to let Levin take them for a ride.

I am happy to see many concerned people, begining to see Levins hidden agenda. He has been praising His Excellency, and his family members to High Heaven, trying to take them for a ride as mentioned in this forum. He has even appointed Mr. Basil Rajapakshe as the Prime Minister. His sinister agenda has no limits. He has usurped His Excellency’s functions and decisions.
This Levin Rajaratnam is the man who praised Ranil as a perfect Gentleman, and qualified his assertion, by saying that Ranil is a good friend of even His Excellency. In the same breath, in another article, he equated His Excellency, to a CAT DRINKING MILK WITH HIS EYES CLOSED. Damning Hypocracy eh ?
Yes, the Rajapakshe family is too smart, to be taken for a ride by a LTTE TIGER TERRORIST IN SHEEPS CLOTHING.

Thank you so very much the learned Professor for coming back to the forum after some lapse. You and Charles Perera have kept us going and gave momentum to us during the dark days of the Idiot’s Ceasefire Agreement (2002 – 2005). I thank you profoundly from the bottom of my heart for giving strength. You (and Charles Perera) were an Oasis in the Dry Desert. This Levin Rajarathnam guy, he seems to be currying favour with MR very badly- I am sure he is aiming for a high post in the Government. Previously he tried to promote Douglas Devananda, then had a fallout with him. Sir, you are spot on about Basil. MR should re-appoint Rathnasiri Wickramanayake as the next PM He did a fantastic job as PM in the previous Government – a very patriotic man who knew how to talk in international forums. Down With Family Bandism.

What University are you from Professor? Please let us know. Whatever the University, I am sure the students would be the lucky one to have a top Professor like you. Well done Professor Mclean. Are you related to John Mclean of NYPD?

I must confess I am a little confused with some of what you have said, as for instance , when you say
“The “king-makers” are more valuable than the “king” sometimes. However, when as Dr. Levins T.C. Rajaratnam has aptly pointed out, the Rajapaksa family is closely knit, with a sibling already making his mark in the political map.” Who is this sibling “already making his mark in the political map”? Mahinda Rajapakse already has three of his siblings who are active in politics. Did you mean to say “offspring” with MR’s son Namal in mind?
Yes, it does seem that Dr Rjaratnam has been “rolling the Rajapaksa wagon, too hard.” No wonder, two of the previous respondents have not been too kind in what they have said of him.
