JUST A FORMALITY – PLANT MORE TREES AND BUSHES

After the heavy rain and flooding in Heladiva, it is just a formality now to call for more bushes and trees to be planted. Even those fast growing ground creepers will be very helpful if planted in the right places. Roots are needed on steep hill slopes to hold back soil and rocks during heavy rainfall.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ But, in the newspapers, I see no dramatic headlines calling for drastic action.
It would be of great public service if they would kindly carry a large notice on the front page in large lettering saying: ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Plant trees and bushes of all varieties and species and protect nature now! If colourful trees and flowering bushes are planted they would be an additional attraction for the onlooker.

A karmic response to the thoughtless devolepmental schemes which has resulted in this mayhem cannot be cured by growth of a few bushes and creepers but it might help. The need of the hour is a sustainable economy with due care of the enviorment. Blindly following the dictats of the business community, banks and the international organisations is not the answer. A think tank of the SAARC to advise on devolepment is probably a good start.
