Hon.Julia Gillard,
The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Australia
Canberra.
09-05-11
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Madam Prime Minister,
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ My sincere thanks to the Federal Government in accepting the appointment of the Rear Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe as the High Commissioner for Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s in Canberra.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sri Lankan community, though not vocal as the LTTE Tamil fronts in Australia, had utmost confidence in the Federal Parliament Canberra, that sanity prevails in executing justice in matters of this nature. I believe the High Commissioner for Australia in Colombo may have a lot to do in making this decision.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ If I take back in time, you may remember Australian Government had severe objections at the appointment of late Mag.Gen.Janaka Perera as the HC in Canberra. He too had to face the initial hiccups but with time the Federal Government realized the fairness and the suitability of the person.
He was instrumental in establishing the Australia Sri Lanka Friendship Society in Canberra, thus giving the opportunity for the Australians to know better the Sri Lanka and her community.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Mr.Samarasinghe, too will face the similar difficulties initially by a section of hostile Tamil Diaspora, who may think that they have been betrayed, wrong word as there was no promise by the Federal Government that his appointment will be totally rejected!
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The findings in a recent report released unethically to the World by the UN Secretary General may be reiterated by the friendly media of this group may attempt to demonstrate and agitate for a short while andƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ throw wild allegations
at the new High Commissioner to justify their meaningless programs against Sri Lanka.
However by now, the intelligent administrators in the Western World know that this document is not a legal UN Report. ItƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s just a report by a private panel appointed by the UNSG for him to be advised of the last phase of the thirty year old conflict in Sri Lanka.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sometimes when a wrong person becomes a leader in any organization let alone the prestigious organization like UN, that person is bound to act erratically under influential pressure. When the UN Charter clearly says that outside Governments from the member states or private panels cannot form opinions or advise the SG outside the UN members, in doing so, he contravened the UN constitution. Therefore a document by such a panel becomes illegal, null and void! Technically the member states must ask him to reimburse any monies spent on this witch hunt, unless of course itƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s from his own pocket! Surely there should be a clause to discipline him for this high handed act.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ This being the preamble to his appointment of the illegal panel, what they produce virtually non-existent, technically garbage, then sensible people should ignore the document and it should rightly find its way to the bin.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Now that the document is out in the public domain, busy bodies will try to capitalize on the unsubstantiated allegations for their advantage. ThereƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s not one new allegation in this report that differs from the report discussed and rejected at the United Nations Human Rights Council.
This being the present situation, this group of the hostile Tamil Diaspora who may have felt betrayed will regurgitate what in this ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Darusman ReportƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ (rightful name) to hoodwink or go to town with the ignorant Parliamentarians and the gullible public.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Madam, Prime Minister, we Sri Lankan community have faith in your Government that these unsubstantiated accusations from an illegal document should not thwart your decision on a country that is making a genuine effort to achieve Peace and Harmony.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ I respectfully believe you would contemplate on the substance of this message!
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Yours Sincerely,
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Vajiragnana Warnakulasuriya,
Melbourne

Sinhalese / Tamil stats from 2006 Census per SPUR should have been quoted.
