The Political Solution – On the Road to Political Suicide
Posted on June 28th, 2011
Janaka Yagirala
Often we wake up to hear news we never wish we heard. Among them are occasions when people of great repute and stature commit blunders that cause irrevocable ruin. Great soldiers like Gen. Lakshman Algama and Gen. Janaka Perera were two such people who made this ultimate mistake and paid the ultimate price. Everyone has the right to engage in politics and be a member of whatever political party they wish, except one particular type, a political party of traitors.
The underlying reason for the astounding victories of the present regime during the elections of 2010 was doing what the people wanted. The reason why our opposition leader is a ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-permanent fixtureƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ is because he never understood what the people wanted. The people of this country always wanted peace, achieved by annihilating the LTTE rather than giving them half our country.
A ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-political solutionƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ is nothing more than an invitation to political suicide. Political suicide is a bearable pain, even if it is done by a great individual. However, the inevitable national suicide from an appeasing ethnocentric political solution is nothing that we can bear. It is time to break silence and raise our voice against this. Especially against the talks with the traitors of the TNA who live on taxpayer’s money but represent secessionism.
As repeated for the umpteenth time, Sri Lanka does not need any political solution whatsoever. Time and time again, history has shown that political autonomy never works. Take Quebec, despite bargaining and being appeased secessionist attitudes have grown. In the 1980 referendum for independence, 40.44% said yes to secession, in 1995 it rose to 49.42%. Due to Quebec bargaining every sign post in Canada is in both English and French. The Francophones have French only schools in almost every province. However in Quebec all signs are in French and French only and Anglophones often have to send their children to French schools.
Similarly Belgium is on the verge of collapse on French and Dutch lines due to the complications of ethnocentric politics. India has the world record of ethnocentric secessionist organizations from Kashmir, Nagaland, Assam to (the one and only) Tamil Nadu despite all of the autonomy.
The 13th Amendment has caused enough damage and waste of taxpayer’s money already. Thanks to it we have a (laughable) governor for each province. There is absolutely no sense of responsibility in any of the provincial institutions. Giving police and land powers will inevitably lead to more racist bargaining, impetus for secession in the long run and discrimination of ethnic Sinhalese people in the NE. Nevertheless, what if the Tamils of Wellawatta, the estate Tamils, Muslims of Mawanella, Akurana, Madawala, Telugu speaking Ahiguntaka people, Africans of Negambo ask for a political solution? The political solution madness has no end until of course, every household is given some form of ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-political autonomyƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚!
The issue in Sri Lanka is not an issue of ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-winning the TamilsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚. Rather it is an issue of the Tamil people showing their loyalty to the nation they were born in. It is an unfortunate position to which these people were put in by racist Tamil politicians (the Ponnambalams, Sundaralingams, Chelvanayagams and Amiththalingams).
The minorities with secessionist attitudes must instead take an example of the Malay people of Sri Lanka. For nearly 200 years they have strongly preserved their ethnic, linguistic, religious and cultural identity while showing their utmost loyalty to the nation. No one would dare question the loyalty of great soldiers like Maj. Tuan Mutalif and Maj. Rizvi Medin. As a minority the Tamils have far more privileges (Malay is not a national language!) than the Malays and under such circumstances thinking in terms of great Tamils like Lakshman Kadiragamar and Jeyaraj Fernandopulle is indeed in far short supply.
Many great young men and women braved the bullet to bring peace to our country. They fought against a vile band of terrorist who had absolutely no care of human life in their racist agenda to create a monoethnic dictatorship. This peace must be guarded at all costs. Any ethnocentric political solution is nothing more than the most humiliating insult to the brave soldiers who gave up life and limb in the name of our unitary nation!

Yagirala, excellent article. Who elected the president? The one man one vote and NOT the Parliament. So, Honorable Mahinda Rajapakse MUST answer to the people. See what happens when you give a little to a TAMIL! Now an up country Tamil MP wants Indian Prime Minister to intervene in this crisis. There is no crisis, it was created by TAMIL NADU Tamils and Tamil Nadu Sri Lankan TNA MPs. They used the fisherman issue to jump start this turmoil. Sri Lanken Prime Minister is completely lost. He is blaming the WEST. In a statement he says that west is trying to break up INDIA! It is the Tamil Nadu Tamil who are trying to break up and create a Tamil Nadu (Tamil only) State and later capture Sri Lanka. If you go back to J.R. Jayawardena time: how Rajiv Gandhi broke up the then, brilliant cabnet of his!

The 13th Amendment must be repealed and a suitable resolution of the minority issues must be resolved through Constitutional means, and it is Parliament that can do this. Although we as the Sinhalas are the majority we cannot afford to neglect the issues that the minorities are concerned about, and so we need to find proper resolution for their concerns. It has to be done without geographically defined ethnic boundaries, and certainly NOT with the Province as the unit. This will be the BIG challenge. However, it should be possible to put our heads together and find a way to accomplish this through some sort of mechanism that gives the various minorities a sense of stakeholdership in the nation’s welfare. Whatever it is, it has to ensure that the last 3-yrs can NEVER happen again…too many good people have laid down their lives in order to see that Sri Lanka remains Undivided. The President has handed over the responsibility to Parliament…it is the democratic approach, and this will make it a collective responsibility of the elected Representatives to ensure an enduring Peace i Sri Lanka.

It is the LOW CLASS TAMILS who want a POLITICAL SOLUTION. And what is this Political that they envisage ? It is very obvious. DEVOLUTION leading to SELF DETERMINATION. Now what is self determination ? They want Police Powers, Judicial Powers, and Land Powers.
It is the TNA TAMIL IMBECILES who want this Political Solution.
These IDIOTS had POLICE POWERS, JUDICIAL POWERS, AND LAND POWERS for the Last THIRTY YEARS. Repeat, 30 years.
The imbeciles managed all these powers so well, that ultimately they decided to sign a RESOLUTION, at THE HISTORIC SITE, NANDIKADAL. Since there was no signatory for the imbeciles, it went down in history as the FAMOUS UNSIGNED RESOLUTION OF NANDIKADAL. So ended the dream of SELF DETERMINATION.
Now the TNA RASCALS want to have another try at Self Determination. They want to annhilate another generation of TAMIL YOUTH.
THIS IS THE VOICE OF DOOM. YOUR DAYS ARE NUMBERED TNA.

Good analysis Janaka.
A political solution that satisfy Tamils will be a political and economic suicide.
Today Sri Lanka – an island the size of Tasmania is over-governed. How many governance structures do we have?
1. The President
2. The Cabinet of ministers/deputy ministers/non-Cabinet ministers
3. The parliament
3. Provincial councils
4. District Development Councils (DDCs are in operation in some districts)
5. Municipal councils
6. Urban Councils
7. Pradeshiya Sabhas
8. Grama Niladharis
This is a bloody joke. PCs’ recurrent expenditure (without a proper northern provincial council) is more than the recurrent defence expenditure! This is without factoring the election cost which is substantial.
If there were no PCs, we could have more schools, hospitals, more university opportunities, more roads, more industries and less debt.
If the northern provincial council election is held, TNA, TULF, ACTC racists will win. Have they build anything so far? Nothing. Just arousing racism and people in the north vote for them. Then Jayalalitha and her Tamil racists would be in power in South India, TNA racists will be in power in north Sri Lanka. The two Tamil racists separated only by a narrow sea stretch of just 32 kilometres. If we share power with these racists, we fall to the level of suicide bombers. At least suicide bombers kill their enemies.
President’s reconciliation advisor is a damn fool.
His political views have been repeatedly rejected by the people. In other countries even if an established politician loses, he goes home. In Sri Lanka losers come through the back door. Now he has entered parliament from the list and knowing that he has nothing to lose, promotes division and absurdity.
Nothing is permanent. Unfortunately this doesn’t seem to apply for the 13th amendment which is like the ten commandments to some clowns.

Exellent article. Whole of Lanka was the home land of the Sinhalese. I agree that nothing is permanent. However we should not follow an express suicidal and destrctive path to extinction by seeking a ‘political solution’ after the sacrifice by our men and women. What is needed is to arrest the decline, rather than follow a route that make Lanka an extension of Tamil Nadu. Time for Sinhalese to wake up and be counted.

Whole Lanka was home land of Sinhalese. Ben Silva ran away from it in to Suddaś UK. He was unemployed for so long and ended up in a depression. He is suffering from acute inferiority complex. Now he wants to teach us how to behave like UK suddas by abandoning Buddhism which teaches the eternal truth of impermanence.
DIlrook,
Ignore the mad kalu sudda. You have said it beautifully.
Too many governments at various levels. Even worst than Australia. This is a big ¨politicking problem¨.
Military solution is complete. Problem is solved by Sinhala Buddhists and other races without armchair mad men like Ben Silva.
There is no ethnic problem to find a solution.New problems are now created and /or exaggerated by foreigners including Diaspora Tamils and Ben Silvavs alike. Only problems we have is the ¨politicking problem and Kalu Suddas problem.

13th Amendment is wanted by tamil nadu political racist jokers, Sinhala opportunist political jokers, Delhi bureaucrats, Western neo-imperialists, LTTE proxy TNA politicians, tamil racists, Global tamil racist movement and NGO’s.
But patriotic Sinhala majority don’t want to divide our country on race basis. This is the reason they send their sons to protect Sinhala country from tamil racist terrorists. They knew that 13th Amendment is a stepping-stone to tamil eelam and this is the dream of Chelvanayakam, Amirthalingam, Velupillai Prabakaran, Jayalalitha, MGR, Vaiko etc.
The Indians and West want to kill two birds with one stone on 13th Amendment. They force government to implement 13+ and get isolate from patriotic Sinhala movement. Once government is isolated then it is easy to apply western terminology “regime change”. After regime change their puppets Ranil, Ravi and Mangala will come to power. War crime tribunal will come later.

Nilwala:
Here in te new world where the western democracy is thriving, there were no immigrants or minorities. It was all european style. Eventhe discrimination laws, I heard, were there not to discriminate against, dutch people.
Anyway, now they are talking about and implementing here and there ways to integrate immigrants (even whenthey are citizens) to the system.
Come to USA and see, there are no minorities, if you can work, you are part of the system. Europe is moving away from multiculturism.
Don’t take India as an example. Because, of the Roman system, India stays that same,It won’t be a superpower ever.
In Sri Lanka, all the indications are we are losing our culture and everything. Because, inside sri Lanka, we think the majority of the world.

DHAM ! Ben Silva has been writing to this column for a long time. I have never seen anything offensive. I think all contributors and readers of this column would appreciate, NOT CASTING PERSONAL REMARKS AND INNUENDOS, towards a fellow contributor. You may disagree on the subject matter. Avoid personal remarks.

Susantha,
You have written much better ideas than Big Ben.
His writing is WIkipedia research only. He thinks Britain, USA , Europe are great because only Suddas know how to run a country.
That is why I called him Kalu Sudda, it is not offensive , he loves it.
Please look at how he has abused Shelton Gunaratne. He has become the latest enemy of the Sinhala Buddhist.
