Some Government Servants in Jaffna Working for TNA Racist Politics

There was a big hullabaloo at the last general election about the ruling party misusing state property and government servants for its election work. Sadly this has always been a practice in the island. However, there is a bigger danger in the northern district of Jaffna where government servants are using their position, influence and power for political work not of the ruling party but of TNA. Not just this is a very dangerous development but also throwing a spanner in the works.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ At the recent local government elections, postal voting results were not separately released. However, the April 2010 postal voting results are representative of the latest election as it is representative of the recent election overall. Mostly it is government servants who use the postal voting facility. At the last general election TNA received 56.23% of postal votes which is much higher than the district count for the TNA of 43.85% in the Jaffna district.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ What this highlights is the fact that civil servants in the north are worse supporters of Tamil racist politics than the average Tamil man or woman in the north! Political support of civil servants towards Tamil communal politics was 28% higher than ordinary Tamil people in Jaffna district.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Pro-LTTE TNA has infiltrated into the civil service poisoning it with Tamil racist politics. Civil service resting between the government and the people is a vital link of executing government policy. By taking over the civil service TNA has found a very cost effective way to promote its policies of racism, ethnic intolerance and violence. Civil servants reach a large number of voters. This gives them much clout to direct or redirect peopleƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s thinking and political preferences.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ How can the government implement people friendly policies, grassroots level development and reconciliation if the political views of the front-end service providers to the people are supportive of TNA hardcore racist views?
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Things get even nastier when school teachers follow this trend which unfortunately is happening. It’s long term impact is unthinkable.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ TNA was never interested in development and always tried to disrupt it. An underdeveloped community would easily fall for racist politics and politics of hate. Vadukodai TULF is no better. In fact AnandasangareeƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s TULF had an election alliance with the TNA in the Kilinochchi district whereby TNA did not contest. Their petty public disagreements were only meant to fool the politically naƒÆ’†’ƒ”š‚¯ve.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ TNA leader is a regular and a despicable critic of Muslims and Sinhalese settling down in the north and the east. This racist attitude goes directly against reconciliation.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Government service in the north must be revamped. Secret disruptors within the service should be replaced with efficient and cooperative persons who have a passion for development and reconciliation. It is not about them voting for the UPFA or UNP but about not promoting racist politics. Tamil speaking public servants from other parts of the country should be given the opportunity to serve the northern people.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Development alone is not going to push the reconciliation drive any further. Government should be clear what the reconciliation model they have in mind. Is it about devolving powers to isolated mono-ethnic enclaves or is it about building harmonious multi-ethnic communities around the country? Every action depends on this objective.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Replacing Tigers with Tiger Nominated Agents (TNA) is no solution; it is the continuation of the problem. Expecting Jaffna Tamils to vote for multi ethnic political parties is downright foolish. They will never embrace multiethnic politics if they have the avenue to select Tamil racist politics. Settlement of non-Tamils in the north is the only way to take away the winds from the sails of Tiger Nominated Agents (TNA). Registering security forces personnel stationed in the north in the voters lists of the north is a very good start towards making the north multiethnic and peaceful. This way development can go ahead, it will be rewarded with votes and racist politics can be wiped out from the north for good.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

I also strongly think diluting this mono ethnic enclaves is the only way. They use only tamil areas to be racist and to promote racism.

AnuD, you are correct – dilution is the way to go but my fear is Indians will dilute us in the island in no time – thanks to the “peace” we have now. With CEPA will will become beggars too. The only big business left in Lanka is MR+Co.

The best way to stop Indian beggars landing and living in SL is to occupy the north-east ourselves. These beggars cannot afford to live elsewhere. Cost of living is too expensive for them today. What most illegals do – come to SL during times of harvesting, do the work, earn and go back to India (taking SL’s earnings with them fully).
Diluting Tamil only in the north is the ONLY way. Anything else the same thing will continue.
There is nothing called TNA. It is LTTE. TNA was created by the LTTE.

Dear Lorenzo,
Please don´t call them Inian beggers. Consider Tea Estate workers in SL from Tamilnadu. By inciting by our writing
we are giving chances to the Terrorist. It is true the problems in the North are comming from Powerthirsty
politicians and white colour job seekers. Not by poor Tamils. We are in the postion to identify and cooperate with the peace willing world to fight against Terrorism not againt Tamils or India. Sri Lanka is under a difficult
situation now. We have to fight against our own enemy in our country and the western countries who misuse our situation.

Dear Lorenzo!
you are missing my point. Indians will dilute the whole island while we try to dilute the north. My question is how to stop the Indians diluting us in the whole island, after all we are only 20+ million.
Apart from states like Kerala & Punjab rest of India is dry, hard and difficult place to live with no basic facilities. Peacfeull Sri Lanka will be a paradise for them.
LTTE created TNA for sure – But who created LTTE? – India.
Our threat is not internal anymore – It is powerful external forces ! We have to find new ways to counter – otherwise we will be history – like the LTTE.

Thurai, These Estate Tamil have nothinking to do with India (TN) ,They are SRILANKAN PUTHTHAS ! ( They have SL birth certicate , SL IC(ID),SL passport) .
No indian Indian beggars landing since 1948 (eg: Our knig indian begger Vijaya landed before 1948) !
My tamil brother they is no point in explaining any think to these our short sighted sinhala brothers here ! They live in their own kukuland , they think our ethenic problm can be sorted by dilution like put more water in plan tea to make more tea !

Thurai,
Estate Tamils are SRI LANKAN. They are NOT illegal immigrants.
Get your facts right.
I’m referring to the illegal immigrants coming to SL NOW. They are uninvited and must be sent back.

LL,
“Indians will dilute the whole island while we try to dilute the north.”
No.
Whatever we do or not do they will always try to invade SL.
The best way to stop that is by SLs living in the north-east. Our problem is BOTH internal and external. External forces manipulate internal forces. We have to take on both of them. But skilfully. I think time is also a solution.

Does not mater indian or chinese all have came through our immigaration check , so there is no ilegal imigarant in our country ( if over state they will pay panelty at departure).
Hence We have invited & inviting them to come our mother lanka !

Lorenzo,
Estate tamil are Srilankans its true. When you say Indian beggers that means all persons who arrived,
and live in Sri Lanka from India before one year or 100 years.
Illigal money flowing in our country is more dangerous than Illigal immigrants from India. See the western countries they are accepting illigal immigrants but controlling smugglers. We must understand from the situations. For example the SL Tamil poor refujees at Mandapam camps in Tamilnadu, and the same time LTTE blood money investment in India damaging Indian economic and raise political unrest. If you are afraid of poor Indians who
come as illigal immigrants in to Sri Lanka. We can´t condemn TNA to refusing Sinhala settlement in the north and east. It is job of the Government to stop illigal immigrants from anywhere. Say illigal immigrants and not to say
Indian beggers.

Thurai,
“When you say Indian beggers that means all persons who arrived,
and live in Sri Lanka from India before one year or 100 years.”
No I didn’t. Don’t assume things.
Illegal immigrants now should be the target. They must be stopped at all cost. That is the biggest threat to SL. (agree with love_lanka on that).
TNA? I didn’t say anything about TNA. There is no direct connection between TNA and illegal south Indian immigrants. If there is then it becomes a military (defence) issue.
August 1st, 2011 at 2:17 pm
Sri Lanka Coast Guard was created this year to stop south Indian illegal immigrants. They have some military powers too. A wise decision after 63 years. This shows how dangerous it is! Sri Lanka Navy is also doing a good job in stopping them.
In addition Indians come to SL through legal means to work and go and SLs go to India through legal means to work and go. Overstaying visa should be caught and punished. Government disagreed for CEPA things after protests.

Dear Lorezo,
Many years ago already Coast Guard created in Northern coastal areas to stop illigal immigrants
and smugglers. Some people engaged in smuggling and illigal immigrants changed as Liberaters of Tamils.
We all must observe not only activities of poor illigal immigrants but also the rich crocodiles.

thurai
Wrong, Yes ,Our Tamil groups got so many supports from TN & Kerala peoples , only ( not more than hundred ) few converted as fighters from these supporters !
What Lorezo is takling about at presenst ( if you visted resently you can see ) in motherlanka Indian workers (from all states- hindi as well ) & chinese ( I was very shame on me to see these people speck good sinhala than myself ) workers all over the place, this is not good for future Srilankan !

I saw the photos of new city of Colombo. We can really be happy with the Defence Secreatary’s plan to develop the city. These developments were not even dreamed of before.
With regard to Tamil Government servants including teachers supporting TNA, only solution is to begin mixing Communities in Jaffna and East as it is in the South.
The Government should build Quarters for Government Servants, both for men and women. This should be done quickly . The Government is said to be implementing a scheme to make the Sinhala Government Servants learn Tamil, and Tamil Government Servants learn Sinhala.
If these plans are implemented hand in hand large numbers of Government servants of Sinhala, Muslim and Burger Communities could be posted to North and East from the South, thus breaking the monopoly of the Tamils occupying Government employment in these provinces. The development of North and East while benefitting the residents in these provinces, should also benefit the rest of the Country-the South.
USA had built a Community hall in the North. Such facilities for communal gatherings should not be allowed to be run by the USA, but taken over by the Government.
