NO PEACE IN AFGHANISTAN WITHOUT TALIBAN

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ If Afghanistan is a problem there is no other solution to this problem but negotiations with Taliban. Without taking Taliban into confidence, the desire for peace and prosperity in Afghanistan would always remain an unfulfilled dream. Since very after the American intrusion in Afghanistan, Pakistan has always been advocating the same solution but unluckily none of the US authorities ever tried to pay heed to this logical pleading. Now as the dates of American retreat from the Afghan lands are coming closer, the US hi-ups are showing their inclination towards the solution presented by Pakistan in the very beginning. It was somewhere in the mid of last June when Afghan President Hamid Karzai first time officially confirmed a direct contact between the Taliban and the US authorities. The Telegraph reports Mr.KarzaiƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s statement, “Foreign militaries, especially the United States of America, are going ahead with these negotiations to find a political settlement to the decade-long war. Peace talks have started with the Taliban and it is going well.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ God knows better what would be the out come of these peace talks because the Taliban see Karzai’s government as ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”a powerless puppet regime, backed by an occupying armyƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢. Most of the Taliban leaders rank Karzai as a worthless roll of tissue-paper and they are never willing to give any importance to what Karzai says and what he vows. In the opinion of these leaders things could take a positive change only if America keeps Indian-patronized and American-supported Karzai out of the peace process and the Taliban leaders are directly approached. ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Only the White House can determine the presence of foreign forces or permanent American bases, as well as the fate of Taliban prisoners in Guantanamo BayƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚, says one of the Taliban leaders.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ On the other hand the American authorities have their own reservations regarding the peace talks with the Taliban without involvement of the Karzai government. They are afraid of the repetition of Mullah Muhammad Mansur type of episode. This person claimed that he was among one of the most influential Taliban leaders but in fact he was an impostor who befooled the US authorities with his serious talks and quietly walked away with a large sum of money. Later on the western media tried to put a balm on the innocent ignorance and stupidity of the US diplomats engaged in the peace talks with Mullah Muhammad Mansur by propagating that he was an ISI agent. The Sunday Telegraph says: “There is some sense that the Taliban are thinking about talks but there are no serious load-bearing negotiations. No Taliban team has yet come up with a set of demands, or a list of confidence-building measures, or a timetable for negotiations.”

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Taking Taliban into confidence with reference to the peace efforts in Afghanistan is not a new-born idea. Pakistan has always been suggesting to USA to engage in political dialogue with Taliban and especially the majority Pushtoons during the ongoing war on terrorism. Unfortunately USA ignored PakistanƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s advice during early and middle phases of the so-called war on terror The US indifference to PakistanƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s advice added to the gravity and complexity of the situation on one hand and on the other hand sabotaged Pakistani peace efforts with local Taliban.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Now at the end of the day ultimately USA is doing what Pakistan had been suggesting since day one, i.e., engaging Taliban in political dialogue. Some of the US policy makers have also been supporting PakistanƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s stance in this regard but nothing serious could be done to materialize this logical pleading. Moreover the Taliban leaders have always rejected any kind of peace-talks so long as foreign troops remain in Afghanistan. As a result of this unwillingness on the part of the US authorities as well as that of the Taliban leaders, the situation in Afghanistan is getting worse and worse. According to the data collected by the UN sources, violence in Afghanistan is reaching the worst possible climax. May had been the bloodiest month on record for Afghan civilians taking lives of more than 368 citizens and leaving more than 600 wounded and injured. According to various media reports Taliban are not willing to be a part of any type of peace talks unless they are diplomatically recognized by the international world and allowed to open an embassy-style office in a Gulf state, where they could meet foreign delegations. They demand to be formally defined as a ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”legitimate official alternative to the Kabul administrationƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Other than ignoring the importance of peace-talks with the Taliban, the US authorities are committing another mistake by keeping Pakistan out of the peace process in Afghanistan and by assigning a leading role to India in the region. US leaders must be well aware of the fact that such a role given to India would prove injurious to the security interests of Pakistan and would add more tension to the already tense situation. Consequently US interests in the region would also be negatively affected. Pakistan is the only force which can play the most effective role in bridging the distances between the Taliban and the US forces in Afghanistan. A safe and honourable exit from Afghanistan could never be possible for the US forces without a strong support of Pakistan. Though the Durand line is separating Afghanistan and Pakistan but the people living along this partition line have centuries old ever-strengthening relations based on common religious and cultural background. That is why Pakistan has always desired and struggled for peace and prosperity of Afghanistan. If the US policy makers are sincere in their desire for peace in Afghanistan they will have to act upon PakistanƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s suggestion and talk to the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”actual and originalƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ Taliban leaders. Moreover it must also be kept in mind that no peace process or US exit strategy in Afghanistan could be successfully completed unless PakistanƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s help is sought for in this respect.

    Dear pro. Ali,
Pakistan, Afghanistan and all other countries already in war and including Sri lanka are complex issues. They all involved by US and other European countries. Therefore, it won’t go away until it come to the public in the West in big debate involving all communities. To do this you need people with strong will power and motivation. I proposed this before but then you need people who understand it and if you do not understand then you can’t do nothing because you do not have confidence. I am basically referring this to Sri lanka.

The Actual fact of this is you do not have to court in NY or anywhere. Just gather some people and start raise fund and Just write a letter asking them(west) to leave certain countries and if you don’t we go to court and that’s enough. you do not have to go court. May be some people will ask me how this magic work. I could have shown to Sri lanka Canadian if they ever have shown any interest. The bottom line, the problem is the West but not Taliban in Pakistan or Tigers in Sri lanka. I think the problem of Pakistan, Sri lanka and other countries can be solved by secretly talking to just US through lawyers. That’s way, not hatred, friendship continues and problem is solved

    Increasingly true.

Coalition forces will hand over the war to Afghan people and escape but the problem remains.

All international problems have negotiated solutions.

  4. jayt Says:

there will be an email to US. This email about serious matters related china, Saudi Arabia, sri lanka, India, Libya, Afghanistan and Iraq, but also, this email is prepared for urgent need of innocent Pakistani children, moms, dads, brothers, sisters, military and police officer and politicians. This will be kept private in the name global peace and in the name of peace and protection of a particular western community who are influential in western politics. However, this will be shared with above countries and will ensure it stay private to guarantee peace for all global religious communities, but US first should put a full stop to killing innocent in Pakistan and allow peace return to Pakistan within days. And also, this should be applied step by to neighbor and other countries.
Friendship and peace is important to every community and every country and every community have right exist, but there won’t be no global peace if influential community or country reject the honesty and moral duty.
In the case of Sri lanka and Pakistan, they never rejected friendship but they reject interfering or harmful goals. This is where West have to clean up for their own sake of security and peace

By the way, Sri lanka do not need any nuclear material for peaceful purpose or not. This is not Sri lanka’s priority. Sri lanka can do without this . second, Sri lanka should ban all harmful farming material. These harmful materiel-farming and nuclear can be used by enemies and doubt about it.
