LTTE arm funds Amnesty Int’l

The worldƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s self-proclaimed human rights watchdog ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” Amnesty International (AI), was now being bought over by the pro-LTTE organisations in Canada, reports from Toronto said. The Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC), an ardent supporter of the LTTE, has now completed collecting a first grant of US $50, 000 for AI. This grant has been confirmed by Alex Neve, Secretary General of Amnesty International in Canada. The pro-LTTE CTC kicked off collecting funds for AI from last September, organising a Canadian Tamil Walk-A-Thon at Thomson Memorial Park, Scarborough.
AI has been aware of how the pro-LTTE CTC plundered money from CanadaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Tamil population since 2005. Ignoring all such anti-human actions, AI is now accepting grants from the CTC, the report added.
In August 2006, nine Tamil Tiger supporters, including four from Canada, were arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the US for attempting to buy Russian-made missiles and firearms for the LTTE, a group listed as a ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”terroristƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ organisation by the U.S. One of the Canadians, Sahilal ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-SahilƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ Sabaratnam, was described by the authorities as the financial mastermind of the operation. At the time, Sahilal Sabaratnam was listed as the Director, Communications, of the CTC.
Human Rights Watch has accused the LTTE of extorting money from CanadaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s 250,000 strong Tamil population for years. Yet, the CTC has continued to deny such reports, effectively whitewashing the LTTE of its role in terrorising Canadian Tamils. According to well-known international terrorism analyst Professor Rohan Gunaratna, the CTC has also been identified as an LTTE front due to its links with the LTTE and its activities.
Meanwhile, the peace-loving Tamil people in Canada have urged AI not to accept grants that are made by way of collecting ransom by the CTC. They have told AI that the war in Sri Lanka was now over and peace was fast returning to normal. Therefore, the actions of the CTC through AI were likely to cause breach of the peace in Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s north and east, the report said.
AI is well known as one of the organisations that has been asking for a probe into the final phase of the war against the LTTE terrorists group but had made very little effort to express its opposition to killing of hundreds of civilians at a time by the LTTE bombs for more than three decades.

Thanks so much ” THE NATION” for exposing the fallacy of these Organizations who continuosly, complain, harass, legitimate ly elected Govts. of the day specially with regards to Sri Lanka.
WHERE were they AI, ICG, Human Rights WATCH for the last 30 + years? Sleeping till many communities including MOSTLY Sinhalese were massacred, abducted, incuding the 600 policemen. WHY all these do gooders WERE SILENT then & NOW requesting investigating ONLY the period amounting to last year or two of the conflict.
WHY not investigate as the MUSLIMS complained the attrocities commited against them in North & East. It should cover the WHOLE period from 1983 when FIRST assualt against LAW enforcement was committed by LTTE. Where were the HIGH COMMISIONS & Diplomatic Community THEN who deliberately ACCOMPANIED , TERRORISTS & sympathisers to their WAITING planes so that the duly elected GOVT. CANNOT take any action to stop their departure.
NOW all these members of so called INT. COMMUNITY including India are very reluctant EVEN to mention those EVILS done to innocent Sinhalese & Muslims as well others who disagreed or critisized the LTTE.
Its about time our WRITERS, INTERLECTUALS, Academics CONTINUE to request some investigations into the period NOT covered by LLRC(who concluded the recently produced the report).

Enough is enough, NOW it is upto the present GOVT. to initiate some action to CURTAIL continued bombardment of FALSE propoganda just because the LTTE & their masters have so much FUNDS, CLOUT to distort what really happend in 30 plus years, before the conclusion of the HUMANITARIAN operation by the Govt.
