ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ When judiciary is in conflict with the political hierarchy, will the Confidence & Credibility collapse in the Law Makers & Law Enforcers?
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Brilliant analysis from H.L.D. Mahindapala How independent is the Judiciary?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ In an earlier scribble I made an error of judgment, regarding Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake being dragged into what I thought was a wrong grave. I apologise to the readers of LankaWeb for this error.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The second letterƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ by S.P.C.
CJƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢S BLINKING ACCOUNTS:- Open & Shut Case of Account Fixing/Corruption
http://www.dailynews.lk/2012/12/04/fea02.aspƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ was a real eye-opener!
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ It is a well known fact that corruption is way of life and rife in Sri Lanka.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ From Politicians to Policemen in Sri Lanka have demonstrated that Bribery & Corruption runs deep in their veins.
Transparency International placed Sri Lanka in the 79th position, not a great encouragement to foreign investors.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ http://www.dailymirror.lk/news/24044-sl-placed-79th-inglobal-corruption-perception-index.html
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ It was not long ago when I read in the Daily News, that President Mahinda Rajapaksa warmly welcoming Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake to hold the highest seat in the judiciary.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The question arises then, did the President conduct Due Diligence on the Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake and her businessman husband prior to this appointment?
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Did the President and his brother Basil Rajapaksa expect some form of gratitude from Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake in her considerations?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ And when no such facility was forthcoming did the Speaker of the House Chamal Rajapaksa used his “stick” to take Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake to task, using the majority enjoyed by the Ruling Party?
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ As H.L.D. Mahindapala notes, were the preliminary Parliamentary Select Committee hearings held in a fancy club with grilled devilled sear fish & jumbo prawns and a drop of Black Label or a G&T?
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ From the on-going saga, one sees that Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake should never have been nominated to the position of Chief Justice by the President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Somewhere, someone knew the entire background and goings on with Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake and her husband, since both enjoy high profile in social and business circles.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
One cannot hide Facts & Figures from the gossip mongers in Colombo. Yet Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake was appointed to the highest office in the judiciary.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ There are parallels in Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Russia, China which are not so Democratic
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ But in Sri Lanka – This is Democracy rotting at its core!
Is this Bribery & Corruption at its highest?
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ At least, LankaWeb has maintained its Core Values in Independent Interactive Journalism.

Dear Professor,
If you can get your wife to translate the article appearing below your article here in Sinhala, you will see more facts.
As Mahindapala a Veteran journalist says;
“This, of course, is not even the tip of the iceberg. It is only the last tiny flake sitting on the tip of the iceberg. Every practitioner in the legal system knows more than one story which they will not talk about in public because it reflects badly on the integrity and the professional standards. The tragedy — or rather the hypocrisy (Jesus had a lot to say about this) — is that these black-coated professionals are the first to pontificate on the unimpeachable standards that must be preserved at all levels to (1) protect the independence of the judiciary (2) rule of law and (3) delivery of justice to the sovereign people”.
It is an eye opener for the government to introduce new legislation to protect the sovereign people from these black-coated MAFIA GANG.

It proved that President, his brothers Gota & Basil Rajapaksa made TWO important wrong appointsments. First Sarath Fonseka next Shirani Bandaranayake. There are few others holding TOP positions but still not come out public. Its better before too late to reconsiders those appontments even if they are close family members or party members. considerations?

SECURITY issues are paramount.
LOYALTY to the Nation of Sri Lanka is equally important.
Those who cannot meet these two criteria ought to resign their public posts and go abroad to a country of their choice.

I must say yes to the last question raise by the professor.
