TNA claims Tamil women recruited to army forcibly have panicked!

A report dated 16 December that appeared in the Sri Lanka media mentions the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) spokesperson, one Premachandran, stating that women from the North were forcibly recruited to the Army. For a moment, the writer wondered whether the TNA was talking about the period when its godfather Pirabaharan took children and women from the North by force to join his killer gangs. Another thought that surfaced was whether at least some of the women who chose, willingly or unwillingly, to join the LTTE were such innocent babes who did not have the heart to hurt even a fly.
The most absurd piece of information ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” correct me if I am wrong ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” is that the women who were recruited to the army panicked, yes PANICKED, when they realised that they had to join a training course in Sinhala and English. Getting the opportunity to learn another language or two is never going to threaten anyone: in fact, the vast majority of candidates will be extremely glad that they could do so without having to fork out their own money, as would have been the case if the army wanted these women to join classes. If they panicked, assuming that the reported information is correct, it also could mean that they were not ready to be Sri Lankan, learning the language ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ 75% of the population, and were dumb, not making the best of the opportunity of acquiring the communication skills through an international language of the calibre of English.
A cynic may even venture to ask of the army recruits whether any among them was previously in the killer brigade of the LTTE, and whether she panicked when she killed the Aranathalawa samaneras, the devotees at Anuradhapura, the Muslims in Kattankudy or the poor cultivators at Dollar Farm and Kent Farm.

The Army Recruitment rules demand that certain skills be acquired, including being proficient in languages used in Sri Lanka.
If anyone is unwilling to learn the skills required to join the Army, they ought not to join the Army at all. Perhaps all recruits should be told what skills they have to learn after they register to join the SL Army, BEFORE they actually sign in. That way, only the willing and able will sign in.
Didn’t the Tamilnet report the same incident as ‘rape of Tamil women in the SL Army’ ? !!! (Andy, please note the truth of the situation, what really happened, as reported by Asada. You were the person who wrote in re the ‘rape’ thing on Tamilnet).
Andy himself is stating here that Sri Lanka Army is ‘forcibly’ training Tamil women ! Andy, these Tamil women VOLUNTARILY joined the SL Army, no one forced them to join. Perhaps they did not know that they had to acquire certain skills after joining the Army. It’s not ‘We Tamils’, but “Oh You Tamils” – twisting the truth !
If unwilling to learn languages & the required skills, they are free to leave the Army, are they not ?

they did not know that they had to acquire certain skills after joining the Army- Common Fran Child born yesterday know in mother lanka who ever joint any force they have learn/know sinhala (as 99% only sinhala language people in force) so these Tamil women did not joint Voluntarry/ or told lied they are jointing for administration jon not forces !!!!
Please be honest !!! We do not want any more misunderstanmding , put advert in all news paper (include Veera kesari) for open invitation for SL forces for Tamils specking Sri Lanka & what minimum qualification requierd & what training will be givento qualify for job & what mimum salary etc….!!!!
be honesty We all become a family members of Mother lanka one day !!!

Andy,
Army Administration would need all languages used in Sri Lanka, even more so than in active Armed forces.
SOME Tamils in Lanka & Tamil Nadu try to make out that ‘rape of Tamil women’ and ‘Discrimination against Tamils’ is a planned and happening common thing on the roadsides here. This is UNTRUE. Twisting the truth is unbecoming of a group of people.
Tamil newspapers in the North are very much guided by Tamil Only thinking, and not for a multi-ethnic North. I do not know who funds these newspapers. I do not expect GoSL to advertise in these newspapers till they change their attitude.
Andy, SL Army knows what it is doing when they chose certain people as suited to work in the Army Administration. If they do not want to continue, these Tamil women are free to leave, aren’t they ?
Bottom line question is : Do Tamil people want to integrate into life in Sri Lanka or not ?

they do not want to continue, these Tamil women are free to leave, aren’t they ?No
4 of them left out of 129 joint paid SLR40,000 each to leave !
Do Tamil people want to integrate into life in Sri Lanka or not ? Yes but not by ‘forcibly’

Fran, Andy is a known tiger and it is futile to try to covince him otherwise. Other than the TNA,another tiger proxie,no one else complains about these recruits and there are many organisation and western embasies just waiting for an opportunity like this to nail the government but even they are not saying anything about this. Andy, if you know your ABC you should know that once you sign in with the army, not only in Sri lanka,US,UK or any army you can not just leave with out paying for the training you had regardless of your race.

NAK,
Thanks very much for info. Yes, the rules are tough for those who sign into Army training in the west. Andy uses a twist on the real facts to create mountains out of molehills.
Andy,
While we lived in the west, we blend in. We do not ask for separate states nor that Others in those countries speak our native language.
Since you have brought out the word “forcibly” : It is amazing that educated Tamil people who write into these columns demand that Tamil be taught to all school children in all schools. This is an act/demand of ‘force’ on all Others in Sri Lanka to learn a language that is of no real use to them. Learning English will be of good use. Sorry, Andy, stay with the facts.
Tamil women who joined the Army are free to leave if they do not like it. Payment for training already given is fair and as NAK says, so it is in other countries. So, in Sri Lanka this is a fair deal and the same rule applies to any person who leaves the Army, Tamil or otherwise. We only request that the untrue & crazy ‘rape’ and ‘force’ stories not be circulated.
Freebees in Sri Lanka (a relatively poor country) are : Free Education, Free Health Care for all, including Tamil people. Such a deal is not found in most Democratic countries. Even Canada has only Free Health Care (OHIP). What can we say but ‘take it or leave it’.

Andy,
What we can all do is IMPROVE the existing free Education & Health Care. That way everybody wins. Send in ideas.

Andy,
No one can ‘give’ Honesty, Integrity & Trust. If a person is Honest with Trust in himself/herself, then with time that person will be trusted by others too. Any President of any country can only do thus much and no more. It is up to the individual to make matters right i.e. feel right about oneself. Also accept the fact that it will never be quite perfect outside, but inside ourselves we can feel alright. It is only in the inside that we can have some control but control of matters outside is difficult, such as weather, other people.
India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal have other problems, some of it worse than problems in Sri Lanka, but hidden. Sri Lanka problems are out in the open and internationalized beyond belief ! In Sri Lanka problems are created out of thin air because some people want problems !
Re joining the Army : It is a serious occupation. In Sri Lanka it is mostly a mercy army now, called out to help in times of natural disasters. Anyone thinking of joining in must give serious thought to it prior to joining in, ask the right questions about opting out rules, etc. This was the first batch of Tamil people joining the Army. Lessons will be learnt and apprehensions ironed out as the process goes forward. It will all work out right, given some time.

It will all work out right, given some time- Agrred I also had same feeling When I heart this first batch 129 Tamil woman jointed in army . I Honestly believe this will work out ok in long term because I can see Photos (in Tamil webs) of these women taken to Trinkomale tour (laughing faces , clolor full dress, very relax )!
Hope & pray we are in right track !!!
As MR said in Jaffna – Naan ungal Sakotharam , Ennai Neenkal Nampalam ( I am your Sakothraya(Brother), You can trust me) !
pass is pass move on !
Forget & forgive !!!
