Establishment of Bhikkuni Sasana in Lanka by Venerable Sanghamitta
Thursday, December 27th, 2012The core teachings of Buddhism have sustained for more than 2,600 years and will continue to do so in the future. Venerable Sanghamitta, the only daughter of Emperor Asoka, brought Bhikkuni Sasana into Lanka in 288 BCE and ordinate and empowered Lankan women. Since then, Theravada Buddhism and the Bhikkuni Sasana have thrived in Lanka.
