Do not cut trees

Dr. Mareena Thaha Reffai,
It is amazing how a few misinformedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ persons could almost cause havocƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ by almost cutting down almost 10,000 eucalyptus trees to pay the EPF and ETF of the employees! How short sighted can a person who is associated with the very department which should protect eh environment is amazing! ( news inDialy Mirror of April 20th)
The public must accolade and support the action of the chairman of the Rattota ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…”.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Ambanganga ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Pradeshiya ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ sabha for refusing to allow such dastardly action. Though far away from Colombo, we must be aware that this sort of short sighted policies have led to todayƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s harsh weather with lack of rain and temperature rise. Every one of us have a ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ stake in the flora and fauna of the country.
We, the citizens ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ are burdened with other important matters like the electricity bills and the cost of living, true, ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ butƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ let them not take our attention away from matters which has long lasting ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ impact on our environment. Let us keep ourselves aware of these matters and protect our country form the destruction and vandalism of ignorant greedy politicians.

** Genuine concern or is it because tree is the election symbol of SLMC!! :)) ** ROFL!!!
But, I would call it plain ignorance (or you never know the true motive for obvious reasons!).
If someone plans to cut down trees in Sinharaja, then its environmental destruction because it is a natural forest.
Why do we have “plantation forests” of teak, eucalyptus and mahogany??? (all are non-native species)
To feed termites? No to harvest the wood!!!! To SAVE natural forests.

We didn’t see today’s problems a few decades ago. The reason?
Less people on the planet. But now everybody fighting for this limited resources.
Population control is the best GREEN action the inhabitants of this planet can do.
The writer probably can enlighten us on this matter!
