Muthuvel Karunanidhi, the former Chief Minister of Tami Nadu, should be applauded by all peace-loving Sri Lankans. There is clear evidence that some of his grey matter cells are still functioning, although the man is almost 90 years old.
According to a report in Hindu dated 12 July, Karunanidhi has suggested that the government (of India) could facilitateƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ migrationƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees to Australia. Going by this suggestion, the Sri Lanka government should muster all its strength and collaborate with India ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” Sri Lanka keeps on getting lambasted by every Tom, Dick and Harry for not cooperating with India to ensure the welfare of the Tamils in Sri Lanka – to see that KarunanidhiƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s idea comes to fruition. The limited resources that the Navy and the Coastguards of Sri Lanka possess need not be spent on preventing Tamils who do not want to be in Sri Lanka from leaving. Instead, the time and energies of the security forces will become available to preventing the illegal and the undesirables coming into the island nation.
Then again, Karunanidhi being Karunanidhi, the poor man obviously cannot keep away from the theme that appeals to Indian politicians, and helps many of them to steal the limelight and hoodwink the illiterate and uninformed Tamil Nadu voters. He laments Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s poor track record of ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-reneging on earlier commitmentsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ and adds, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-it remains to be seen whether the country will fulfil its promises made to National Security Adviser (of India)!ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚.
Sri Lanka is under no obligation whatsoever to promise anything to India, represented by its foreign ministry or the security apparatus high ups. In the same tone, dumping in the garbage any such promises that had been made, for whatever reason, too, is Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s pristine prerogative, as the island nation is not a vassal state of India or one of the states or union territories that comprises the behemoth that goes today as India.
Rather than worrying about implementing whatever promises, agreements, accords or pacts between Sri Lanka and India, what Sri Lanka should do is to demand compensation through the International Court of Justice for the damage India has inflicted upon it. India turned a rag tag bunch of street thugs originating from Velvetithurai and other regions of Northern Sri Lanka to a powerful and ruthless and killing machine that was ready to take on the armed forces of sovereign Sri Lanka head on. It is only after the Sri Lanka-based LTTE killers were annihilated in May 2009 ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” the terrorists would have been vanquished in 1987, if not for India poking its dirty finger ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” that Sri Lankans have started enjoying the peace that had been hijacked by LTTE.
Karunanidhi, please take all Tamils in Sri Lanka who do not want to be Sri Lankans to Tamil Nadu or send them to Australia. Sri Lanka then will be a peaceful country.

This is the situation we must create.
Make life MISERABLE for Tamils to live like Tamils in SL that they will
1. not come to SL in drones
2. leave SL in drones
There is NO other solution.
SL does NOT need Tamils.
IF Tamils truly need SL give up their Tamil Nadu language, Tamil Nadu culture and Tamil Nadu mentality and become a true Sinhela (the correct name of SL).
Samething applies to Arabs. They can practice whatever religion.

LORENZO !! We have a big problem now. We need to find the Boats that would last for atleast four hours. I have seen some moored in Beruwela bay. They need a little touch up, to catch up. Lankan Tamils AHOY !!! Bon Voyage.

What a brilliant idea Karuna imagined of. Australia is fighting tooth nail to protect Tamil people of victimisation, harrassments and being denied of basic human rights. 60 million Tamil Nadoos and 3 million Sri Lankan Tamils are not big issue to Australasia. Karuna, Jayalalitha and Sampanthan also must go. Australia is capable to accomodate Tamil people who are suffering. nThe land mass of Australia is such that only 10% is made use of. Australia needs people. Australia set an example in settling down Burger people which the UK followed. Well done Karuna, please also include 20 million Sinhalese also who are being ripped of by politicos.

The Tamils are not discriminated in Sri Lanka, they simply want a better life in western countries.First they come to Sri Lanka to escape the poverty in Tamil Nadu. They get all the benefits from Sri Lanka like free education, free health and then play the ‘discrimination’ card to get citizenship in western countries.The government should provide them the boats to get out.

No, I don’t think “there is clear evidence that some of his grey matter cells are still functioning”. On the contrary, what this demonstrates is that the Old Man is as batty as he ever was. He should know that you cannot simply ask Australia to take in the Sri Lankan Tamils, and expect Australia to agree. If Karunanidhi has any sense (something about which there has always been some doubt!) the more practicable thing he could have suggested would have been to ask the Indian Central government to make a home for the Sri Lankan Tamils in their natural motherland, India!

Karuna did NOT say Australia should ACCEPT Tamils. He only said SL Tamils should GO (or be SEND – however you interpret the Tamil statement) to Australia.
ANYTHING can happen en route to Australia!! The fun is in the journey!!

The article says the Old Man wanted the Central government to facilitate the migration of SL Tamils to Australia. That surely implies that Australia would accept them. I don’t know how you can place a different construction on that but clearly we don’t see things the same way!

Lets look at the Sri Lanka on a much broader context. India openly supported the Tamil Tigers against Colombo but Sri Lanka was aided by Pakistan and China in procuring weapons and training. So India’s proxy war with Sri Lanka was also a proxy war between China and Pakistan against India. This civil war involved all the major powers of the sub continent including China. In that sense the conclusion of the war and the constant bombardment by the Tamil government is only the dying sounds of this war. The repercussions of this war can be surmised by a quote from Cho En Lai who was asked “What did he think of the French revolution on history”, to which he replied “It was too soon to tell”. That was 1952 and the French revolution started in 1788 or over 300 years ago. The same can be stated of the Sri Lankan civil war and the effects it will have on the subcontinent and much further out. The war has only ended four years ago and one cannot even fathom what would be the results of this 30 year long war.

No it doesn’t necessarily imply that. He may try to do that as a bargaining tool, to show to the world Tamilians are mistreated in SL, give Tamilians a homeland in vastly empty Australia, make life way better for SL Tamils (Australia is a developed country), help reduce Tamilians in SL, etc. It can imply many DIFFERENT things.
But one thing is certain – sending SL Tamils OUT OF SL, Australia bound is good for SL whether they REACH Australia or not.
Tamil population % was 18% in 1981 (before war). 15% now (after war). The reason for this PROMISING DEVELOPMENT is MIGRATION. TNA gets only 2% of national vote today thanks to this. Otherwise they will get 5%.

Solving of Tamil problems for the vast majority of Tamils on earth: The onus is on Tamil Nadu & India, for some 72 Million Tamils in TN & India.
Tamils of Sri Lanka have all the rights that others here have. They have FREE education & health care, same as others. They are free to live anywhere or leave Lanka for any other port of their choice.

When people write in, they differ in the stating % of Tamil population in Sri Lanka.
Some say 4%, referring to the Northern Tamils. Does this figure include the East as well ? Others say 14%, including all Tamils but excluding Upcountry Tamils. The correct figure is 18% when ALL Tamils of Sri Lanka are taken into account, including Upcountry.
Please correct me if I am wrong here. We say it is very important that we get this % figure right and quote that figure in all articles and comments.

Another point we would like to focus on is the GLOBAL Tamil Forum located in Britain. Why are British Tamils calling themselves Global when it should be British Tamil Forum ? It appears that Tamils who are now in Britain (post Tamil EXODUS TO THE WEST after trumped up & false 1983 Riots in Sri Lanka), are the world leaders for Tamils ? Why aren’t such Global Tamil Forums formed in Tamil Nadu, the only true Homeland of Tamils ? Why in Britain which is an ex-colonial country as far as both India & Sri Lanka are concerned ?
The other organisation which is questionable is the Tamil Government in Exile (USA). When they say ‘TAMIL GOVERNMENT IN EXILE’ (TGE) does it include coverage for ALL Tamils all over the world, including those in Tamil Nadu & India ? The TGE is composed ONLY of Sri Lanka Tamils.
As we said earlier, the onus of problem solving for the vast numbers of Tamils in Tamil Nadu lies with Tamil Nadu leaders, and not with Sri Lanka leaders.

Better still why doesn’t India take all the illegal migrant Sri Lanka Tamils who came from Tamil Nadu to escape from the Caste system, the institutionalized slavery system that exists in Tamil Nadu. Most of the Sri Lanka Tamils do not identify with Sri Lanka. Their bodies are in Sri Lanka where they get free education, free health care, get a salary, work, pensions etc. yet their hearts are in Tamil Nadu. They go abroad and speak against Sri Lanka which has given them everything. The people who do this should be put on a list and should not be allowed to step in to the country.
The stupid Sinhalese are so kind hearted they let these fellows do as they please. We should enforce the 6th amendment and like India make it a serious offense to encourage secession or act in any way to separate or divide the country. It should be punishable by confiscation of their property, and that of their immediate family. Other countries such as Malaysia who have this infestation of Tamils have very strict laws to control them. Fiji has barred all Indians from even entering the country.

Sri Lanka is Sinhalese only country. We can not claim any other country ours on the planet. For that fact, apart from the Sinhalese in the Island, everybody else are guests or descendants of the guests.
You do not need history books or the internet to prove it. Thre are no historic buildings anywhere in the country to show who have been living there for 1000s of years. Can people left Sri Lanka for other countris (surprise, surpise, developed countries only) demand a separate country for themselves in a few hundred years in those countries? Of course not. They are rich and powerful. They wouldn’t dream such a ludicrous idea. But poor Sri Lanka is different.
Mother Lanka educated these ungrateful FREE, provided FREE health care. Now they have left for pastures green. Still not happy. So they want a separate country to go on holiday. Not rich enough, not powerful enough. So everybody try to use Sri Lanka as a door mat. India treat Sri Lanka as a colony of theirs. I wonder why they not trying to force their will on China.
What Sri Lanka need is a nuke. Then everybody takes notice. Everybody listens! Until that Sri Lankan government should bring in new laws to stop these guests multiplying to outnumber natives. Limit 2 children to a family. STOP FREE ED, STOP FREE MED AFTER TWO CHILDREN. Failing that Sinahalese going to be wiped out by the guests’ population.

SL does NOT need nukes. But the plan to get nuke power technology from Pakistan is a good move. Or we can get nuke missile carrying Chinese subs to dock in SL. Endia will shut up BOTH ends of its digestive system!!!
Sinking fishing boats and crashing OLD UKRAIN transport planes would do.
BUT it must be done SOON while their percentage is still “manageable”.
Other thing is to get countries like Israel involved in SL as much as we can. They are NATURAL ENEMIES of Arabs. They will NOT do the job for us but will help us with methods, tools, etc.
Australian sympathy should get more Tamilians in boats. State sponsored boat travel to Australia (to hell along the way) is the way to go.

What an ugly poem ! Is it some concocted poem ?
We don’t know what has made this woman so angry. It may be some paid and put up job, as is popularly happening among
various Tamils (and others), mostly abroad, or to go abroad, &/or to gain attention and popularity for Tamil leaders Separatist cause. Some Tamil women may willingly want courtship and marriage to Sinhela men. What is wrong with that ?
Look at the other side :
* We have seen pictures of army soldiers carrying old Tamil women on their shoulders during floods
* What kindness was extended to the majority of Tamils during/after Riots of 1983, by Sinhela householders who
risked their lives to protect Tamils (my family did this too)
* What tolerance from the majority of Sinhela people when Tamil leaders constantly call for 50-50, Federalism, Separatism
* Sheltering, Feeding, clothing for Tamil people distributed to Tamils & others after Tsunami, mostly by Sinhela Buddhist Temples
* Land & housing distributed to Upcountry Tamils in tea estates, with wage increases (60% of profits go to wages)
* Money, Food, clothing, housing, distributed to dispossessed Tamils of the North after war finished with ltte
* Tamil Ethnic enclaves all over the island doing far better than other communities
* Tamils have the greatest numbers entering Universities for FREE education

Re the correct percentage of Tamils in Sri Lanka : We have to take into consideration TAMILS who are now Muslims. There is a HIDDEN number of Tamils within the Muslim numbers. Are they the Tamil speaking Muslims ?
The word ‘Tamil’ is ethnic whilst ‘Muslim’ is a religion. Ethnic Tamils get hidden inside the ‘Muslim’ identity & tag.
Also, as far as I know, Muslims are the only group that has political parties in Sri Lanka.

Once a Tamil or a Sinhalese becomes a Muslim, no going back. They and their kids will ALWAYS be Muslims.
The reduction in Tamil percentage is due to war deaths and migration.

I do not know the Tamil speaking Muslim numbers in Sri Lanka. Generally speaking, I am assuming that most of the Tamil speaking Muslims are actually Tamils who have converted to Islam. If you know the number of Tamils converted to Islam, please let us know.
I agree with you that usually it is “once a Muslim, always a Muslim”. But I do know that there are a fair number of people in the Middle East who were born to Muslim families, who are now Christians.
Have Tamil percentages really reduced in Lanka in spite of over a Million Tamils migrating (mostly to the west) ?
Tamil illegal migration into Lanka during the ltte rule of the N&E had made ‘upkeep’ of Tamil numbers in Lanka possible.
Lanka is merely the transit point to USE, slander & discard for Tamils migrating illegally out of Tamil Nadu. This has to stop.
