President Mahinda Rajapaksa ended 3 decades long brutal war by virtually wiping out the entire LTTE leadership and capturing its 12,000 members in May 2009..This is the FIRST TIME in the history of modern warfare that a guerrilla/terrorist organization has been utterly destroyed in such a fashion. Overnight, war became a stranger to Sri Lanka. President Mahinda Rajapaksa committed an unpardonable foreign-policy sin en route to his victory. President Mahinda Rajapaksa simply ignored the bien pensant voices from abroad urging him to let the LTTE go just as the Sri Lankan military was about to administer the coup de grace.
But the difference is Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and the UN’s various institutional cheerleaders showered Nobel prize winner OBomba with praise, for killing innocent women and children with drones, bombing Libya and maintaining Guantánamo Bay detention and torture camp.

BEAUTIFUL faces of DEAD VP and OBL.
Another comparison is COLLATERAL DAMAGE – US wars collateral damage in MILLIONS. In SL MAXIMUM estimate in collateral damage is in tens of thousands.
Another is USA LOST the war, SL WON.

One difference is, Mr Bin Laden was in bed in his pyjamas with his wife when the “Brave” US Seals, grabbed him, tortured and executed whilst the US leadership watched over electronic media. The Western regimes and most western media are very happy and celebrate this killing.
However, Prabakaran was fighting in his “military” uniform, along with his terrorist band of terrorists in the Jungles, when he was killed in battle as he refused to surrender or chew the cyanide capsule to commit suicide. The Western regimes, AI and most media are very very unhappy about this killing.

The “difference” is that unlike Al-Qaeda Sri Lanka is a strategic ally of China which the US and NATO including nations in that region recruited by the US in order to contain China. The UK also belongs to NATO. Given the fact that in addition the Tamil Diaspora are playing a major role in demonizing Sri Lanka. Contrast that with the Al-Qaeda. After the fall of Osama bin Laden there has not been a pro Al-Qaeda network accepted by these nations, given voice by these nations to penalize the US or those who destroyed the Al-Qaeda.
Sri Lanka on the other hand is facing exactly that, a pro LITE Tamil Diaspora who is using everything in her power to persuade the host nations to bring selective unverified charges against Colombo. That is the difference. Lets not underestimate the Tamil Diaspora’s “soft power”. The Tamils have their classical dance Bharatanatyam. I was a witness and a participant student in that dance in the US under the world famous Kalakshetra Dance studio. Many western women and men have embraced this dance. That cannot be said of the Sri Lankan Kandyan dance which remains fairly unknown to the world. In Berkeley California there is an annual festival called the “Himalaya fair” where Bharatanatyam dancers of both American white girls and Tamils girls perform to a packed crowd.
The Tamils also have their “soft power” arsenal of their architecture, classical language etc. which has found acceptance in the West. One must also mention the influence of the Tamil theater that now and then plays a role in creating movies that demonize the Sri Lankan war.
Sri Lanka has to use her “soft power” of being one of two ancient nations with a written history, of her engineering marvels done by the Sinhalese people, of the repeated invasions of the Tamil culture. Sri Lanka must campaign to promote her culture as highly civilized as any found in the sub continent including making documentaries of them for the Tamils have already done this. Here lies the difference between the Al-Qaeda and LITE.

Another difference is that, Bin Laden was home made as he was trained and funded by the USA itself to fight the Russians, before Bin Laden turned against his former boss the USA.
Whereas, Prabakaran was foreign made as he was trained and funded by neighbouring India and sent back to Sri Lanka to terrorise the Sri Lankans.
