WILL THERE BE A BACKLASH IN COLOMBO IF WE LOOSE AGAINST USA SPONSORED RESOLUTION?
Posted on February 17th, 2014
Malin Abeyatunge
28 March 2014 will be very decisive day for Sri Lanka. USA conniving with UK is sponsoring again to bring a resolution at the UNHRC Session in Geneva for the third time against Sri Lanka for war crimes. Tamil diaspora spread in the affluent western countries are spending all their illegally acquired funds to buy over the so called humanitarian organisations, politicians, current and Ex UN staffers, state mechanisms, western media like Channel 4 , BBC,CNN,ABC,SBS to promote this resolution that will be sponsored by USA,UK, Canada and EU Countries against Sri Lanka.
TNA in the NPC has already passed resolutions to support USA sponsored resolution against Sri Lanka and in fact it is reported that they are planning to send a team of TNA to attend the Session to show their solidarity with the US resolution. Customs should be more than alert to screen all TNA delegates if they intend to go, to see that any harmful materials against Sri Lanka are not smuggled even in their person. Customs should not care less for the international outburst as long as they are within our shores but should be alert to protect our country.
All the above mentioned vested interest western elements are burning mid night oil, spends millions of dollars to see that this resolution is passed against the GoSL with a majority. If by any chance the USA, the UK and other white dominated countries able to pass this resolution against Sri Lanka for war crimes, there will be two actions the UNHRC will take against Sri Lanka.
One would be to appoint an international investigation to probe into such accusations against Sri Lanka for war crimes interfering with our sovereignty and the other action would be to impose sanctions on Sri Lanka. These two actions will path the way for USA and its allies for a regime change to appoint a puppet regime as has happened in the Middle Eastern countries.
Such actions will be the dooms day of Sri Lankas sovereignty as it’s the ultimate goal and the dream for the separatist Tamil Diaspora and it’s allied western countries, some local Tamil, Sinhala and Muslim politicians to see it’s happening. If that happens will the majority Sri Lankans take it lightly? Very unlikely. Whole nation except for a few thousands will rally round Rajapaksa Government to protect the country’s sovereignty and the territorial integrity.
In 1983, certain politically motivated people which included Sinhalese, Muslims and Tamil thugs created the riots against the ordinary Tamils living among the Sinhalese. But that will not happen again between Sinhalese and the Tamils. Sinhalese are tolerant people. Even when, Dalada Maligawa was, bombed, hundreds of Buddhist Sil devotees at Sri Mahabodhiya were massacred and 39 Buddhist monks were summarily executed by the LTTE terrorists, the majority Buddhist people didn’t take the law into their hands to go on rampage against Tamils.
But, if UNHRC takes actions against Sri Lanka, the scenario may look different this time. It may not be the Sinhalese but the majority Sri Lankans of all ethnic groups who love the country will take the law into their hands as the patience is running out over the actions of certain elements of both local and international against Sri Lanka.
I hope not, but will not rule out that there will be back lash against (a) pro LTTE western embassies like US, UK, Canada, EU Countries and India and her investments in Sri Lanka (If India votes against us by supporting the Yankees and the Poms) (b) TNA politicians (not the ordinary Tamils) , Sinhala, Tamil & Muslim politicians who are helping the western nations on this resolution, PRO LTTE NGOs, INGOs.
Perhaps, these elements may have to bear the blunt of it if it crosses the red line of tolerance by majority Sri Lankans. Let us hope that this will not happen but possible danger is there where anger of majority Sri Lankans are melting may erupt at any moment. This is what TNA, some local politicians, the LTTE Diaspora, the USA, UK, Canada, EU countries and India want to happen for a possible regime change.
Therefore the GoSL should be proactive to face such crisis before the majority Sri Lankans take the law into their hands against those counries who are supporting the USA sponsored resolution. The euphemism over a land slide victory for Rajapaksa Government at the Western & Southern PC elections on 29 March might go out of control but should use such victory to show the west a clear signal not to interfere with our sovereignty and that majority of Sri Lankans are with the Government.

such brilliance!
What on earth did you expect from a brilliant political strategist to hoodwink the local masses yet again.
You cannot fault the man to hold the election a day after- to pull the wool over.
It’s a “democracy”

ps- I sincerely hope Lalith “Chaos” Weerantunga’s predictions do not come true. He is far more intelligent to foresee the resultant repercussions to the Island nation than seen by the supposedly External Affairs Monitor.

A very simple and peaceful backlash.
1. Use 2/3 majority to Nationalise all Endian (and LTTE), USA, UK, EU run companies and sell back to China.
2. Use 2/3 majority to burn 13A, and invoke 6a.
3. Allow Russian of Chinese naval bases in Talaimannar pointing guns towards Jayloita.

Nanda,
A PEACEFUL BACKLASH was on my mind too !
—————
Tough nastiness needs to be dealt with with tough counter measures. Keep State and Buddhism apart – that ‘annoy pauw’
doesn’t work. No Democracy allows this type of nonsense. Follow Singapore and we won’t go wrong – implement the Law of the Land.
* Implement the 6-A and remove the illegal 13-A.
* Next send all the illegal migrants back to their true home countries. And stop building houses and giving Lanka land, free education and health care to illegal migrants. These plums should be only for true born Sri Lankans.
* Remove SAARC rule of ‘Visa on Entry’ as done in India.

Agree with Nanda on a PEACEFUL backlash WAVE which should be used to.
1. SCRAP 13 amendment altogether (despite PC wins)
2. INTRODUCE anti conversion bill (IF Saudi Arabia vote against us or abstain from voting EVEN BETTER)
3. INTRODUCE a total ban on killing animals for SACRIFICE
4. INVOKE 6 amendment to PUNISH all TNA clowns
BACKLASH is a must after Geneva but a peaceful one will be the perfect PUNISHMENT for anti-SL elements.
1983 was NOT a backlash. It was only a Tamil-Tamil affair.

Micro,
“I sincerely hope Lalith “Chaos” Weerantunga’s predictions do not come true.”
I hope they do come true in a peaceful way. Peaceful chaos is possible. USE that chaos to scrww TEs and Federalists hard enough.

No backlash…as Sri Lanka – just like Israel – is free to ignore the UN Human Rights Council, as it is the UN Security Council that has the exclusive authority to investigate and prosecute alleged war crimes against countries like Sri Lanka, Israel, India, and the USA that have not signed or ratified the Rome ICC War Crimes Treaty. China and Russia will veto any action on the UN Security Council against Sri Lanka for alleged war crimes, so this hole war crimes talk is boring theatrics.
The very idea of “regime change” orchestrated by outsiders is OFFENSIVE and counter to their expressed desire to see democracy flourish in the world. If you try to overturn democratic outcomes or regimes you don’t like, then you are no better than the petty dictator you claim to despise.

“Venezuela has given three American diplomats from the US Embassy in Caracas 48 hours to exit the country after President Nicolas Maduro leveled accusations of conspiracy and meeting with students to incite anti-government sentiment.
Following days of opposition protests, three unnamed diplomats were declared persona non grata by Maduro during a televised address on Sunday night. On Monday Venezuela’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Elias Jaua announced that the US diplomats in question were vice consuls Breann Marie McCusker and Jeffrey Elsen, and Kristofer Lee Clark, who holds the rank of second secretary at the US consulate.”

These two actions will path the way for USA and its allies for a regime change to appoint a puppet regime as has happened in the Middle Eastern countries.”
If an international investigation is allowed by Colombo to take place it would be in the context that all parties who violated human rights during the war be addressed. If not then Sri Lanka does not need them to even enter Sri Lanka. If that leads to Sanctions one must keep in mind these sanction will come from a select number of nations, many of whom have a marginal trade with Sri Lanka. However it will not prevent the arrival of tourists as witnessed by other nations who have faced sanctions. The tourist industry will continue. Due to the size of Sri Lanka’s economy it would take less to keep her economy on a healthy tract. Trade with friendly nations alone would suffice.
Finally what Sri Lanka is being put through though unfair, vicious, diabolical and with a purpose of dividing the nation gives Sri Lanka a valuable lesson in how to deal with such accusations and the repercussions of it. Just like the civil war created a formidable military and a secret service including a strategic partnership with China, the spinoffs from this diplomatic charade will also give Colombo that learning curve on international politics. It will only make Colombo stronger. It could lead to the nullification of the 13th amendment as an act to rebuke these nations. It could lead to (and I hope) making Buddhism a state faith and Sri Lanka a Buddhist Theocracy. It could lead to an increase of the military presence in the northern and eastern provinces. It could even lead to passing laws that forbid Tamils who flee the nations using the excuse that they are conventional refugees fleeing Sri Lanka due to human rights violations from returning back to Sri Lanka. The list of both government to vigilante backlash is almost limitless.
One must always keep in mind the Sinhalese nationalist movement as in any nationalist movement has the higher ground since the movement is taking place in home base. This gives power over the Tamil diaspora around the world. This movement alone can become a formidable force that the international community will have to deal with on a diplomatic and friendly level.
Regarding the backlash if Sri Lanka is forced into some kind of investigation could lead to the closer of embassy’s of those nations who pushed this issue. It could lead to the public from buying products from these nations, it could lead to public demonstrations where the products of these nations are burned (as in the case during the era of the Mahatma). It could lead to a greater in depth relationship with China and Russia. Keep in mind Russia is the silent partner which is seldom mentioned. Russia is the only nation in the world who can claim to be a Western as well as an Asian power simply due to her size.
What is unique about Sri Lanka is her allies. Few nations in the world can claim the alliance of two Security Council members whose combined power is one of the greatest in the world.

Think we can debate the abolishment of the 13th Amendment till the cows come home.
MR needs it now more than ever to consolidate his power base. In fact he is likely to have a “backlash” on the home front should he get rid of the 13th and dissolve the Provincial Councils. What do you think he is going to do with the “thug” provincial councilors made redundant? Send them as Ambassadors? create another 50 odd Ministries?
We are soon to see another set of PC elections in March with Actors, Actresses, Drug Barons and Thugs soon to take the limelight at our tax payers money. Hooray!- yes do keep debating on it!
BW- Further to your comment above.
I believe if or when an International probe is voted on whether it be in March 2014 or Sept 2014, the onus (if they are clever) to be placed upon China to oversee the undertakings given by MR GOSL. China have already voiced the opinion and statements like “make efforts to protect and promote human rights.” “show cause to help you”.
What better way to have China being the monitor.
I will be surprised if sanctions are placed on Sri Lanka (Country specific). Sri Lanka is not Libya,Syria, Iran or Zimbabwe. More likely “individual” specific sanctions as we have seen with various Armed Forces Personal been sidelined on Ambassadorial positions, cold shoulder on training exercises, travel bans and visa restrictions.
I beg to differ on your statement that “If that leads to Sanctions one must keep in mind these sanction will come from a select number of nations, many of whom have a marginal trade with Sri Lanka.”
The EU and US are the biggest trading partners to Sri Lanka. Sri lanka will never ever fill that gap with the trade from China or Russia. China has very little or non at all to buy from Sri Lanka. Its a one way street as far as China is concerned.
The tourist industry demographics has changed dramatically. The big spenders are in Maldives but you still see the “cultured” tourist visiting Sri Lanka for the cultural triangle. A visit to Cinnamon Grand, Cinnamon Lakeside or the Colombo Hilton is an eye opener. Its like little Kuwait or little India.
re;- Closing of embassy’s- Who do you think its going to effect the most?
As regards to buying products from “these” nations and burning products from “these” nations- I love to see Range Rovers, Jaguars (Indian products) BMW, Mercs and Toyota, Apple Iphones etc burned. You kidding me?
It’s not so unique about Sri Lankans allies. Tell me one nation that has allies from both sides. Think about it!
