The News caption reads:” LTTE favoured after Ranil POWOW!”
The Big question is, “So who gave Ranil Wickremasinghe carte blanche to lobby the EU court which has reportedly lifted restrictive measures on the LTTE, the Sri Lanka Tamil terrorist group globally proscribed and provenly dangerous or is this some kind of joke?
Ranil Wickremasinghe is said to have lobbied the Court of Justice of the European Union which has ordered the Council of the European Union on Thursday to annul the restrictive measures taken against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) although it all seems tantamount to a bunch of nitwits with no real jurisdiction to effect global removal of the proscriptions and Ranil as usual seems to have got involved in some cheap sensationalism which will in all probabilities not augur well towards his political future already in shambles.
So is this a last hurrah on the part of someone whose track record is so blemished with huge faux pas’ that once saw him almost betray the country to the Tamil Tiger terrorists when their campaign though bogus presentations was virtually legitimised internationally
through the duplicities of the likes of Anton Balasingham as well as Eric Solheim where Ranil and the rest of the motley crew sought to fortify their statuses relative to their personal as well as official capacities in so doing yet disastrously backfired on them and made them contentious in the eyes of the world as a bunch of non nation friendly bunglers!.And amazingly he is still at it from the other side of the fence but why is he tolerated?
Ranil and his cohorts who soon after his bunglings as former head of the nation lost their hold on the power grid having been dumped ignominiously by the general voting public of the land yet himself tolerated as an opposition politician somehow clings to the leadership of the UNP where there are far better candidates for the job according to many analysts. He has continued his way with impunity for some of his shady activities indicative of a willingness to compromise the well being of Sri Lanka towards his personal gain where only his high connections and all the jingoism and cronyism which seems to permeate the once powerful UNP now in partisan internal division have oftentimes probably saved him from incarceration. One of these days his luck will surely run out!
The Nation must also remember his mendacious mentality displayed during one of Sri Lanka’s shameful dark days~ involving portrayals of indifference and turning a blind eye to the cause of justice during his tenure at the helm of the Administration with reference to the Batalanda massacres of youth in captivity whose perpetrators ( some say including himself) thus far have never been realistically made accountable for!
On the more current theme-The case ruling at the EU was apparently given in favour of the LTTE on procedural grounds,according to the lawyers representing the LTTE where interestingly and perhaps detrimentally for him UNP and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe who was on a recent visit to London is reported to have attended a meeting of the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) where he is said to have met with leading figures of the Tamil diaspora to solicit their support for his candidature at the soon to be held Presidential election where Ranil Wickremesinghe despite his surmission that he has wide ranging support from among the Conservative administration and members of whom he also met on his tour, the support appears delusionary towards gaining the Presidency!
“His associates at this level are known to be those who have access to legal lobby groups that have openly lobbied in return for handsome cash rewards, for the lifting of restrictions on the terrorist LTTE as the record shows. It is plain that Wickremesinghe lobbied for the lifting of Tiger restrictions in return for LTTE support at future polls,” reliable sources have stated and something he probably needs to be grilled for and severely reprimanded if not indicted within the provisions of the Law where his involvements are not only unconstitutional but appears illegal for someone of his status!.
At the conclusion of the sessions the Court reportedly has annulled specific restrictive measures directed against certain persons and entities by the EU with its view to combating terrorism the way it percieves it and laughably by granting legitimacy to dangerous terrorists.. The Netherlands, the UK and the European Commission were ordered to bear their own respective costs in the case. Considering the implications which openly admit the function of combatting terrorism the decision not only sounds ludicrous but also to a degree biased in favour of the lobby of Diaspora Tamils seemingly pandered to by Ranil .
The court decision which is said to be effective after three months as a result of.finding the current restrictions imposed by the EU inappropriate on techncal grounds, the Court has given a minimum period of two months, extended on account of distance by 10 days, for the EU to come out with a new restrictive measure with respect to the LTTE, if appropriate.The so called technical grounds have not been indicated where in all likelihood these restriction in turn could counteractively at onternational level if it goes that far be deemed null and void where the original restrictions will stand bearing in mind that the EU has no real jurisdiction over global matters and Ranil could find himself barking up the wrong tree and furthermore be paddling a boat in dangerous waters with no paddle!
To reiterate~ Although the European Court of Justice (ECJ) is the highest court in the European Union in matters of European Union law it has no real jurisdiction to deliver any legislation over global matters where the issue of LTTE terrorism is a global one endangering all mankind where the decision to proscribe them is one etched in stone! and one of the reasons it needs to be acclaimed continuously that their elimination was a globally favourable one despite the rhetoric of the Tamil Diaspora aided and abetted by Ranil Wickremasinghe in this instance apparently attempting to recussitate them!.
Undeniably a clear cut case,where power hungry Ranil Wickremasinghe has once again shown his true colours as someone willing to betray the Nation towards his own gain and needs to be brought to task! if all the details prove to be true .

After reading the article questions such as what is nationhood? what constitutes being a steward of that nation? what constitutes the values of our leaders? where must one draw the line with our leaders? etc. then becomes an issue. In the broader concept of a secular nation it is harder to pin them down. In the defined aspect of a Buddhist theocracy it is easier to define. The so called modern world shudders at the very word “”theocracy” for that implies rule by priests. That is the furthest thing on my mind. In the singular issue of Sri Lanka the VALUES (I capitalize it only to point to that word) of Buddhism should, in my opinion, define the laws of Sri Lanka. They INCLUDE all the values of Democracy including the right of people to choose their leader, but excludes the broader aspects that come with Secularism.

How can this guy be the leader of main opposition party in a country where Sinhalese constitute 74% majority and he is clearly working against them. The other members of the party must be without backbones.

Ranil Wickremesinghe’s manifesto is always paving the way for mortgaging Sri Lanka to international community, World Bank, IMF and the multinational corporations.
Ranil Wickremesinghe ordered and witnessed the execution of hundreds of innocent young men from Kelaniya area in his torture chamber in Batalanda in 1989 which was confirmed by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry which comprised retired judges. I spoke to many Tamils from the north and ALL of them said they HATE MR. Some were APPRECIATIVE of YARL DEVI but said it was ENDIA that financed it NOT SL after TN and LTTE RUMP DEMANDED it!!

ECJ lifted the LTTE ban. Now it is plausible LTTE will regroup.
REVIVE a group called “LTTE” and send them wiping out all Tamil politicians who COMPROMISED on TE and agreed to PCs, reconciliation, etc. Blame it on LTTE and ECJ.

NORTHERN Tamils are driven by HATE. They HATE Muslims, they HATE north Endians, they HATE Sinhalese, etc.
They KNOW it is a loan and they KNOW the trains are all SL. They KNOW the COST is DAMN CHEAP (360 rupees for 3rd class and no one stops TAMILS going illegally in 2rd class paying only 3rd class fare) and LOSS MAKING for SLR but they don’t admit it as a good thing.
When I was a kid there was a “THORANA” close by. It happens every year at Wesak. MOST of the time it is about CHULLAPADUMAN JATAKA where an ungrateful woman falls in love with a CROOK without hands or legs. And then she with her lover push her GOOD husband down a waterfall.
Tamils are JUST like her. VERY VERY few exceptions are there but they struggle to survive in the community. They get pushed to Sinhalese where they get acceptance.

[President Mahinda Rajapaksa has reiterated a condition in order to abolish the Executive Presidency and he says if that condition is met then he will act within 24 hours.
The main demand set by President Mahinda Rajapaksa is for the pro-LTTE diaspora and the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) to give up separatism.
Rajapaksa noted that the main demand of the diaspora and the TNA these days is for the Executive Presidency to be abolished.
He says if the diaspora and the TNA meets his expectations then he will instruct his cabinet to support abolishing the Executive Presidency through Parliament.]
I wonder if any commenter at Lankaweb provide an analysis of the above statement from our President. One ought to be careful of the political connivance hidden within this statement. Good Luck

In a night club called Tropicana where a young beautiful daughter of a Colombo Medical College Professor Dr Paul went for disco dancing with her Chinese male friend. Gonawela Sunil, the main right hand of of Ranil Wickremesinghe in the Biyagama electorate was another night club reveler that night at the Tropicana club with some of his other friends. At the end of the dance, Gonawela Sunil had become friendly with the Chinese male friend of the girl and offered them a ride in his car. Instead of dropping them off at Borella as requested, Sunil took the couple to a place in Biyagama, took the girl in to a dimly lit unoccupied house only with a deck bed and gang raped her with his friends. After ravishing the girl they were returning to her apartment in Borella when they suddenly stopped the car on the Kelaniya Bridge. Gonawela Sunil then wanted to kill the girl and dump her body to the Kelaniya River. But she was saved through the intervention of her Chinese friend who promised to keep her silent. After returning home, she did not want to reveal anything to her mother, but finally talked to a doctor brother who admitted her to the hospital and carefully recorded all evidence which helped in the criminal case finally. Gonawela Sunil was arrested, despite his political influence since the victim’s father was also influential. Sunil was convicted at the High Court. The verdict was appealed against. All attempts to get him bailed out pending the appeal, failed. Finally the Supreme Court upheld the verdict of the lower courts. Then, with the help of Ranil Wickremesinghe, a Presidential pardon was sought. In a letter Ranil Wickremesinghe said Gonawela Sunil was a man of good character. On such instances an Asst. Secretary of the Ministry of Justice has to give his recommendation to the Minister of Justice on the matter after considering the case record and recommendations of the Attorney General. His recommendation was that Sunil under no law was qualified to get a Presidential pardon. But against all those odds he was granted a Presidential pardon by the uncle of Ranil, the Late J.R. Jayewardene and was in addition made a Justice of the Peace for the whole island. At this time Ranil Wickremesinghe was the Minister of Education. During all mornings there were many people at Gonawela Sunil’s residence carrying envelopes containing bribes seeking his help to admit children at super schools like Royal and Visakha. He was making money using his newly gained social status.
Every time, Ranil Wickremesinghe visited the United States what we heard from him was that he took instructions from President Bush of how to run Sri Lanka, sometimes making us doubt whether Sri Lanka was a sovereign independent one with equal status on par with the United States before international law. No other UNP leader before him has had such subservient demeanor.
When Dudley Senanayaka went to represent the then independent Ceylon at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II all heads of nations went in procession in horse carriages to the event. At the last moment, Dudley Senanayaka was asked whether he was prepared to share his carriage with some African head. Infuriated by the insult on our country, Dudley Senanayaka threatened to leave London boycotting the Coronation after holding a press conference. Knowing that it would become a bigger media event than the Coronation itself the officials withdrew their proposals immediately begging for our pardon.
It was true, Dudley Senanayaka became Prime Minister, after his father fell down from a Police horse and died. Viscount Soulbury who was our Governor General then said it was the dead leaders wish. In the midst of some opposition in the party, many described the event as undemocratic, like passing the crown from father to son. A true democrat, Dudley never paused for a moment, immediately instructed the Governor General to dissolve the parliament and sought a fresh mandate from the people. His party was returned with a bigger majority, bigger than his fathers.
When J. R. Jayewardene led his party and won, promising a ‘Dharmishta (Just)Society’ a poster produced by Irwin Weerakkody’s Phoenix Advertising agency declaring an attractive saying supposedly uttered by J. R. Jayewardene very much aided the campaign. The poster declared in Sinhalese: “I have no prince to crown.” (Mata Otunu Palandawanta Kumarayek Netha )This subtle attack was in reference to the mother-son alliance of Sirima Bandaranaike and her son. Insiders at Phoenix said these were not the exact words uttered by JR but what he had said was he had no family to pass the political power after him and it was the ex-Aththa newspaper hands he was employing who produced the attractive saying. But immediately after the election victory JR did not hesitate to bring in his prince- nephew Ranil Wickremesinghe , and made him jump the que for party leadership.
He got double promotions like ministerial portfolios, leader of the house etc. surpassing more experienced hands. The only two leaders who could stand up to him Gamini Dissanayaka and Lalith Athulathmudali were assassinated mysteriously by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. So, one could justly declare that Ranil had been appointed to be leader of his party by J. R. Jayewardene and the Tamil Tigers. He received no mandate from the people like Dudley Senanayaka.In fact Dudley Senanayaka received mandates from the people four times in his life time to become the executive head of the nation . Ranil is still attempting for the 31st time.
When a handful of people died in the Hartal of the fifties Dudley Senanayaka had the decency of resigning from his premiership democratically taking the responsibility of the police killings. Inquests were held into all deaths.
But the nation is yet to receive some kind of statement from Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe for the deaths of more than six hundred people who were brutally tortured and killed at Batalanda, in his fearful electorate of Biyagama ( literally translates as fearful hamlet) It has been proved beyond any doubt that the Police run torture chambers were conducted with his knowledge, to elicit information from alleged insurgents. At least doesn’t a Presidential candidate have a duty to tell the nation why inquests were never held into those deaths.
Dudley Senanayaka was an honorable man. He walked like a king and truly behaved like one. When his party men were anxiously waiting on line to receive OBE’s and knighthoods from the queen he refused them. He was a progressive man who was bold enough to invite the country’s father of socialism, Philip Gunewardana to share power in his cabinet. When the nation was at stake he did not seek petty political gains and helped Prime Minister Sirima Bandaranaike to reach the Sirima Shastri pact that resolved the problem of stateless Indians. True , he signed the Dudley-Chelvanayagam pact but never tried to hide it from the people. A white paper was prepared based on the pact and presented in the parliament. When the nation and the bhikkus rejected it he threw it to the dustbin, acting most democratically.
In contrast, Ranil Wickremesinghe signed a pact with Prabhakaran. There is no evidence that he presented that to his cabinet. Neither did he show it to the parliament nor to the President of the country, for a democratic discussion before the implementation. He wants to be pro-American more than his mentor and uncle the Late J. R. Jayewardene. When starvation threatened this nation Dudley Senanayaka encouraged his cousin, the then Minister of Trade R. G. Senanayaka to travel to Chiina and sign the China-Ceylon Rubber Rice Pact. It was J.R. who opposed it and was nick named Yankee Dickie. For the Senanayakas the country came first before all other ideologies. Ranil Wickremesinghe’s infamous UN speech supporting the US invasion on Iraq is the greatest blot on Sri Lanka’s foreign policy copy book. It brought us no benefits. No US newspaper or television station ever mentioned it in good praise or otherwise, as it was so insignificant. It was so foolish-more foolish than his father Esmond Wickremesinghe’s attempts of attacking People’s Republic of China using the Late Sir John Kotelawala at Bandung. Ranil is yet to learn from the Senanayakas to put our motherland’s interests first in the country’s foreign policy. Surely, Ranil is no Dudley Senanayaka.

Some people say it was a group led by Gonawala Sunil who killed Tamil prisoners in Welikada in 1983 which made him a heros and ultimately secured his release.
Gonawela Sunil was Ranil’s HUSBAND according to people who worked at the ministry of education.
Believe it or not this damned criminal who was made a JP by JR later became an ADVISOR to the ministry of education and its secretary appointed by Premathasa when Run-nil was the education minister!!
Run-nil was the YOUTH AFFAIRS minister under JR. He had a great time with young men until some immoral acts came out which led to his sacking.
Only a total lunatic would call Run-nil Mr Clean. A pervert, a thug, a murderer, a traitor and a lunatic. TOTALLY unworthy of votes. UNP should have a new leader and give MR a run for his money.

Sadly there are others of similar ilk around, some who are to all appearances close to the President but wolves in sheeps clothing~ predatorial opportunists who would resort to the same tactics as RW or worse given half a chance but are somehow kept in close check. One such is this individual Sajin Vaas who needs to be made accountable for the assault on Dr. Nonis a class act who has little or no equal in the present diplomatic corps. for the dignity and courage he has shown in the face of adversity~ Makes one wonder if Vaas is another Gonawela Sunil perhaps and as such are the types who are most likely to undo the good work done by the Administration under the direction of the President who should realise post haste the extent to which such individuals are capable of compromising his integrity and bring disrepute not only to him but to the entire nation.
That RW has been toletrated this long seems to be attributable to the fact that being the nitwit he is and totally predictable, the Administration probably thinks he is no threat but the fact of the matter is he has been the biggest threat to the Sinhala Nation and a betrayer of his Motherland to the point where he does not give a damn about it as long as he gains power which incidentally will never come to pass as it was proven the time the LTTE undercut him for reneging on his promises to them and his world virtually caved in on him as a political leader when his game was exposed. That he has clung to the UNP leadership this long attests to the fact that the UNP are a disoriented lot who believe they are hanging onto the best of the bad lot as leader but once again a fallacy given his track record!!

With all what NT has written above in Rauinils character certificate, he came very close to winning in 2005 presidential election. That shows how gullible the voters are. I wonder what the fate of SL would have been under him if he won. NT’s certificate should be translated to Sinhala and distributed among all Sinhala voters, though we know now he doesn’t have a chance against MR. At least we know then that the UNpers are told clearly who is their leader.

It was mainly TAMILS voted for him and Colombians.
MR was accused of tsunami corruption which reduced his votes. CBK campaigned for RUN-NIL. LTTE campaigned for RUN-NIL. NORWAY canvassed for RUN-NIL. ALL NGOs canvassed for RUN-NIL. Endia canvassed for RUN-NIL. UNP+LTTE killed Kadirgamar during election campaign. A MASSIVE blow to MR. Thonda and Hack-him joined RUN-NIL DESPITE holding ministries in SLFP govt. MR’s campaign manager was Mangala! How useless! SLFP was blamed for tsunami blunders and even for the tsunami. MR could not promise even a loaf of bread because CBK would not. State media was NOT given to MR while ALL the media campaigned for RUN-NIL. MR’s coalition partners JVP and JHU were physically fighting each other!
MR won despite all this.

Sri Lankan President links EU decisions to opposition ‘conspiracies’

Oct 20, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has charged that the recent decisions taken by the European Union are a result of the attempts by the opposition parties to oust him.
He accused that certain politicians are working with the pro-LTTE Tamil diaspora to oust him at the much anticipated presidential election.
Addressing a function of the health sector workers at Temple Trees Saturday, the President said that a “certain political party leader” had met the representatives of the European Union recently and within two weeks after the meeting the European Union has relaxed the ban on the LTTE.
“They are working with foreign forces to oust me. They have gone and met them in Europe. They have promised action to fulfil pro-LTTE diaspora demands,” PTI quoted the President as saying.
It has been alleged that the Opposition United National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickremasinghe during his recent tour to London earlier this month had met with the representatives of the pro-LTTE Tamil diaspora to get them to push the major Tamil party, Tamil National Alliance, to support him at an upcoming presidential election.
“European Union has lifted the ban on the LTTE. It happened within two weeks of certain opposition leaders having talks with the pro-LTTE diaspora, “the President said.
The European Court, on 16th October, on procedural grounds, annulled the European Council measures maintaining Sri Lanka’s defunct Tamil Tiger terrorist group, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) on the European list of terrorist organizations but allowed measures to keep their assets frozen.
In addition the EU is also proposed to suspend the purchase of fish products from Sri Lanka, the President noted. He said the EU’s real intention is obvious by these actions.
The European Commission Tuesday (October 14) proposed to ban imports of fisheries products from Sri Lanka, the second biggest exporter to the bloc, due to Sri Lanka’s failure to demonstrate that it sufficiently addressed illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
“On one hand they lift the ban on the LTTE while threatening to stop our fish exports. The notice had come during the same week,” the President had said.
Several government ministers have also echoed President’s allegations.
Participating in a program at the national radio SLBC the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne speaking of the EU’s proposed ban on Sri Lanka’s fishery products said that if the opposition leader goes to foreign countries and creates problems and impediments to these activities that he is a great treacherous activity by him for the country.
Minister Wimal Weerawansa told media yesterday that the EU court gave the order to lift the LTTE ban soon after Wickremasinghe came back to Sri Lanka after his visit to Europe.
However, the opposition leader is yet to respond to the President’s allegations.
