The Manape : Amazing rise in popularity of some MPs

The preferential votes is an interesting feature in view of the astronomical rise in manape for only one party. The comparison of preferential votes in 2010 and 2015 highlights a surge in popularity and it is interesting to find out on what grounds they have become so popular amongst the masses.
Registered voters were 15,044,490 in 2015
Registered voters were 14,088,500 in 2010
Difference = 955,990 (additional voters by 2015 since 2010)
Highlighted in yellow are the astronomical rise of preferential votes from 2010 to 2015
All UNP | 2010 manape | 2015 manape |
Ranil Wickramasingha | 230,957 | 500,566 |
Akila Viraj Kariyavasam | 66476 | 286,755 |
Ranjan Ramanauyaka | 59318 | 216,463 |
Harin Fernando | 49,073 | 200,806 |
Lakshman Kiriella | 53,690 | 199,046 |
Arjuna Ranatunga | 27,796 (DNA) | 165,890 (UNP) |
Gayantha Karunatilake | 49,945 | 149,573 |
Rajitha Senaratne | 66,710 (UPFA) | 142,186 (UNP) |
Ajith Perera | 48,588 | 131,383 |
Sujeewa Senasinghe | 52,559 | 117,049 |
P Harison | 24,675 | 113,346 |
Sajith Premadasa | 74467 | 112,645 |
Rauff Hakeem | 54,047 | 102,186 |
John Amarathunga | 52331 | 83,070 |
Buddhika Pathirana | 62,499 | 98,815 |
Mangala Samaraweera | 59,836 | 96,092 |
Notice the marginal changes
2010 manape | 2015 manape | |
Wimal Weerawansa | 280,672 | 313,801 |
Dayasiri Jayasekera | 132,949 (UNP) | 133,532 (UPFA) |
Rishard Bathurdeen | 27,461 | 26,291 |
Vijayakal Maheswaran | 7160 | 13,071 |
Note: Both Rishard & Vijayakala have been peddling divisive and separatist ideology throughout but the lack of support shows that the people do not care for such and questions why media gives them undue media space to project a different version to the masses. The media has a bigger role to play than playing politics themselves. Even Sambanthan the TNA leader has received just 33,834 votes which again shows that the Tamil people do not view him or the TNA as their leaders.
The other surprise exit of course is Field Marshal Gen. Sarath Fonseka together with his family who contested under the Democratic Party. He obtained 98,456 votes at the 2010 General Elections but has not been able to even secure a seat in the 2015 Parliament.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe’s 500,566 votes from a total Colombo district vote of 640,743. 78% gave one preference to Ranil Wickremasinghe.
However, former President Mahinda Rajapakse who received 423,529 votes from 474,124 votes claims the highest percentage of preference with 89%.
Looking back what is also interesting is that President Maithripala Sirisena received only 90,118 votes in the 2010 General Elections but as Presidential Candidate in 2015 January he received 62lakhs of votes.
Looking at the 2015 preferential votes against the 2010 it is interesting to know on what grounds the popularity of those highlighted have suddenly soared.

Thank you for a fantastic analysis Shenali.
I think the people have swallowed the Yahapalanaya pill seriously and blindly. They were fed up with “Gon Parts” of Mervin and SB like fools and MR had to pay back with the regime change.
People have tasted the freedom for 5 years.. thank to MR… now it is history. They needed something else to taste. Then came Yahapalanaya.. People have enjoyed the election without annoying large cut outs and posters of politicians.. They wanted to taste of that more for a longer term and to see what else is in store for them to taste in the Yahapalana store.
Time will tell… when they realise that the new “Yahapalanaya Nade” is be similar to the proverbial wolf who deceived the kingdom.

Thanks to Shenali for this analysis.
Politics in Lanka are stranger than fiction. It seems to us bystanders that “Gone are the days when honest Elections are held”.
Someone should do a survey whether the Voters in Lanka trust Elections anymore. With the advent of computerised Elections, falsehood and manipulations have crept in from within the country and from outside. Therefore, FALSE Democracies too have crept in, haven’t they ?

Are these numbers [what UNP members have received as preferential] believable ?

Mahinda was the most popular politician in the country on 08/01 (though he lost after all the enemies got together with some mis-guided Sinhalese). His popularity increased exponentially after the defeat. RW who was too afraid to contest on his own against Mahinda but snatches an ungrateful backstabber from Mahinda’s party and pick pockets the Prime Ministership of the country.
Then he pulls out the great Central Bank Robbery (the biggest in the post independence history of SL) and welcomes the Underworld back into the country and increases his popularity to go over the roof. Sarath Fonseka, well known among the Sri Lankans and a war hero who was capable of staging a electoral fight against Rajapakse has lost his popularity in a mere five years.
Sri Lanka will never have a proper election result as long as this man Deshapriya holds the post of Elections Commissioner.
With the announcement of the poling results, we guessed that this is happening according to a pre-set Computer Programme. Probably the programme was managed from India or the US. They already had the list of who and a percentage against each, which was populated based on the actual number who polled.

THE FINAL WINNING NUMERS CAN BE FED TO A COMPUTER ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, AND THEY CAN ADD THE NECESSARY FAKE ADDITIONAL DATA AND EMAIL IT BACK. WHAT THE RECEIVING END HAS TO DO IS, DELETE THE SENDERS NAME AND ADDRESS. I MAY BE WRONG BUT THIS CAN HAPPEN.

What did Ranil do in Colombo to get 500k votes? All the work was done by the former government and looks like he took credit for everything. Are the people in Colombo so dumb?
August 21st, 2015 at 11:53 pm
Also, did you wonder how Champaka Ranawaka got over 100k votes of the UNP? This guy along with Wijaydasa Rajapakse, Sujeewa Senasinghe and Rosi Senanayake were to loose their seats. They must be thanking the their boss’s twisted brains for robbing people of their franchise. Now they will raise their hands in parliament for any bill as long as it satisfies RW.

SHENALI !! WE ALL KNOW THAT THIS IS A VEY SRANGE PHENOMENAN, BUT YET IS HAS HAPPENED. THERE HAS TO BE A MASTER-MIND, TO RAISE THE “”MANAPE” BY SUCH COLOSSAL AMOUNTS. THE HIGHEST WITH AKILA AT A 190% INCREASE, beating RANIL, WHO HAS A 119% INCREASE. I DO HOPE THAT THE LORDS ABOVE WILL, IN TIME SHOW THE PEOPLE HOW THE JILMART HAS TAKEN PLACE.

Computerised Elections are untrustworthy. It is that simple. Can our experts in math in Lanka devise a method to eliminate cheating ?
They can patent such a method and make money too !!
