Former defense secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said yesterday he now regretted to have finished the war because he had to undergo lots of trouble as a result of doing so. Mr. Rajapaksa expressed these views when he came to the Presidential Commission of Inquiry appointed to investigate serious acts of fraud, corruption and abuse of power, state resources, and privileges (PRECIFAC) yesterday, to give a statement over the Rakna Lanka armoury. Mr. Rajapaksa said he has had to report to all these commissions as a result of ending the war.(මෙරට දශක ගණනක් තිබූ යුද්ධය අවසන් කිරීමට මැචිහත් වීම ගැන දැන් තමන්ට කණගාටුවක් දැනෙන්නේ යයි හිටපු ආරක්ෂක ලේකම් ගෝඨාභය රාජපක්ෂ මහතා ඊයේ දිනයේ බරපතල වංචා සහ දූෂණ සෙවීමට පත් කර ඇති ජනාධිපති කොමිසම හමුවට පැමිණි අවස්ථාවේදී මාධ්‍යවේදීන් අමතමින් කියා සිටියේය.)
Today I feel sad to have finished the war. I have had to report to all these commissions just because I finished the war. None of these commissions would be there, if I had not finished the war,” he said. Mr. Rajapaksa said he might have to report to the UNHRC as well to give statements following the release of the UN report over the alleged war crimes. He said the UN report was totally based on the needs of the Tamil Diaspora and said what the Diaspora wanted was to punish the security forces and the then political leaders. Mr. Rajapaksa said he hoped that the President and the Prime Minister would not agree on a move to punish security forces or political leaders by an international court.

It is a human tragedy that the political leaders like MR/GR and the respected Armed Forces of the country are having their feet held to the fire on account of having brought an end to the 30yrs of war….
How quickly people forget what WAR was like!
The people of Sri Lanka do not seem to appreciate what was accomplished, and that the END TO THE ROADSIDE BOMBS AND ALL THE CHILD RECRUITMENT AS WELL AS THE BOMBINGS AND KILLINGS AT THE WAR FRONT AND ELSEWHERE …WERE BROUGHT TO AN END IN MAY 2009.
It is what enables them to go about their business and the children to attend school without fear TODAY.
THANKS TO ALL THOSE WHO PARTICIPATED IN THIS TERRIFIC RETURN TO NORMALCY!
THE COUNTRY SHOULD HONOR THEM instead of turning on them! What kind of people are the Sri Lankans?

Dear Mr. (Gotabaya) Rajapaksa,
I am a Sri Lankan Tamil. Although I am not living in Sri Lanka now, I have many of my close relatives live in Sri Lanka, some of them had been trapped where one niece and one nephew got killed in the war zone during the final phase of the war. Still,my relatives who managed to escape from there blamed the LTTE for the loss of the two children and all the hardships they went through and praised the Sri Lankan army for saving the rest of them, around 5 families with 15 members from the LTTE. I trust them as they need not have to twist the truth when they tell as to what happened during that difficult time, and I am also not a media person or belong to any other organization with some vested interests. I know very well that today’s media mostly twist the stories deliberately in order to satisfy certain parties, not caring for the truth or the welfare of the people.
As such, I consider you a true soldier who saved the people of Sri Lanka – Tamils, Sinhalese and Muslims-from the threats they faced by LTTE, and served the country of Sri Lanka with patriotism. Therefore you need not have to regret for the valiant and enormous services you have done for the country and people. You don’t have to worry about what the internal / or external powers think or do for doing only the right thing as you did. You did the right thing and be proud of it. I, along with many others are proud of your achievements as well.

In 1981 Tamil population of SL was 18.5%
In 2012 Tamil population of SL was 15.0%
IF war continued, Tamil population of SL would be BELOW 10% in another 30 years.
War killed 5 times more Tamils than Singhalese.
We should have CONTINUED the war at a MANAGEABLE LEVEL.
Anyway ungrateful people don’t deserve total peace. SOME peace was sufficient.

Buddhism is NOT an Endian myth anymore. I AGREE you have to think ABOVE Buddhism, Christianity, etc. to SAVE SL but the mere presence of Buddhism is not the problem.
e.g. Didn’t king Dutugemunui kill thousands of Tamil invaders?

Vyasan, there are many Tamils who are eternally thankful to Rajapakses. If not for finishing terrorism, Tamils living in the North had no future.
Also, Sri Lanka is the only country where the country’s territorial integrity of the land gets jeopardised after a democratic vote.
I have always felt so proud of the Rajapakse brothers. Thanks to them we are the only country in the world to defeat terrorism. That brought enough peace dividends to the whole country.
Though I don’t know what Mahinda’s and Gota’s future is going to be, they can hold their heads high when the calling comes. I wish you a future with some solace as you gave us a future, you gave us a country, you gave us a life. Thank you is not adequate to express my feelings of relief and happiness.

If our history is any indication, it was always our own bloody Sinhalese who betrayed our heroes and our country.. Today is no different.
It is again two biggest Sinhalese (Sirisena/Ranil) traitors, and their crooks are collaborating with the West and their biased institutions (UNHCR), to betray our heroes, who saved the country from 30 years of terrorism and mayham..
These traitors will do anything to stay in power. SHAME ON SINHALESE for being so ungrateful, and ignorant idiots, who have forgotten what the country was like before our heroes saved it, and over 20,000 of our young men and women who sacrified their lives to acheive the peace that they enjoy today…

The predicted growth rate by the UNP is 5.5%. It was 7.0% During the previous UPFA regime. The Dollar was Rs. 134.00 during the UPFA and now it is Rs. 140.00. The prices of all imports have gone up as a result.
The Sri Lankans allowed the Western Powers to do a regime change and see where it has got them. This is only the beginning. In five years time the country will be down on their knees. See what happened to Libya, Iraq, Syria and Egypt. These Western Powers destroy growing economies so they can control and plunder.
The Sri Lankans are ungrateful people and deserve what they get. MR and GR saved the nation from Terror at a personal risk which neither Ranil nor Chandrika wanted to take. Sri Lankans will be paying for their folly for the next four years and enjoying it.

Victory over the terrorists have not brought much benefit to the people in the south and who cares about what Gota says?
politicians are now using the security situation to be extravagant with absurd escorts,some religious places are still barricaded with security as a status symbol,to the annoyance of people.It’s truly a victory for the politicians and their cronies and not to us the people.
He showed utter contempt and arrogance when he attended the recent inquiries with his grin and I lost all the respect for him.That’s not the way to respect the established procedures of the country.It is sad to see gloom and criminal activities in the country on TV daily,where children are abused,murdered etc because the cronies of the regimes have set a bad precedence to the population.
Haven help the country when the people in uniform saluted a person under inquiry,guilty or not it’s the principle of the system in use,which is utterly corrupt like our courts where cases go for decades.We truly need the colonials back to sort the this country,from the street level to the top.
A few hours ago my three wheeler and another went under the railway barricade when there was red light and the warning bell to my horror.This the indiscipline in the country,throughout.Politicians are truly responsible for this sad state,irrespective of the political allegiances.

About a hour ago they showed in a teledrama where one person was beaten up by several thugs because he belongs to another party,which is not a responsible thing to show this sad side of our culture in that script as it make a bad precedence to the people,which is common.

Just now the the TV showed a man was shot in the law courts and how low can the country go.We campaigned for the SLFP party over decades and it’s us who take the blame from the people while the politicians are playing merry hell.This goes for most of the politicians. It is sad that the big business shop keepers are either Tamils or Muslims which I see daily and they are big taxpayers in the country and they will react very strongly when their tax money is misused by politicians in power that will force a division in the country where the two minorities will want to detach themselves from majority who is just a burden on them and they are bound to mhave thevsypathy of the IC.
