Harvard economists to advise SL: Harsha

The government is to conduct a forum of world renowned economists including some attached to the Harvard University , to advise on the implementation of the economic policy plan laid down by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, a Deputy Minister said yesterday.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Harsha de Silva told the Daily Mirror that this would be done early January.
He said these economists would advise the government on the implementation of these policies over a period.
We are going to consult the best economists in the world. They may be from different countries. This is organised by the Ministry of International Trade. There are economists attached to Harvard University, to attend it,” he said.
Ahead of the budget, the Prime Minister, in a statement to the House, outlined the economic policy.
Generation of one million economic opportunities, enhancing income levels, development of rural areas, ensuring land ownership to rural and estate sectors, and the middle class and government employees, and creating a wide and strong middle class are the aims of this economic policy.
The 2016 budget also serves as a roadmap for the achievements of these targets. (Kelum Bandara)

Why do we need Harvard Economists to solve Sri Lanka’s problems. Most of the Western economists have failed in USA and Europe as we can see from the collapse of these economies. They apply the formula of pure Capitalism which does not work. It has been proven again and again and yet they persist because the very rich in world over want to create a mass of people who are very poor. Europe has a Socialist economy, even though not perfect is still the best. Dr. Richard Wolf Emeritus Professor of Economics of Massachusetts University has given many talks as to why Capitalism is flawed.

Our politicians who work according to the script from the West are trying to eliminate the little bit of Socialism we have in Sri Lanka, and to bring in unbridled Capitalism. In the process many thousands of $ will be paid to these half baked economists who will in turn look after their benefactors. There are many very well educated Economists in Sri Lanka who really understand the situation in Sri Lanka. What the UNP is trying to do is traitorous. UNP is trying to do stupid things like eliminating the Fertilizer subsidy so that rice farming is killed and then they want to import rice from India. Sri Lanka has been farming rice for over 2600 years. Now this nit wit RW wants to eliminate it in one fell swoop. RW has said he likes to see farmers in jeans operating high tech machines. In the first place in the hot climate jeans are not suitable and it is an uncomfortable trouser to wear compared to the local amude. Like his trouser and coat in the hot climate he wants to feel superior always to the rest of the people. How elegant and noble President Mahinda Rajapaksa looks in the national dress while RW looks uncomfortable and grotesque with his tummy popping out in his suit. He and all his UNP stalwarts wants to show the West “I am your boy”.
