Nava Sama Samaja Party Leader Vickramabahu Karunaratne yesterday raised doubts whether MP Hirunika Premachandra followed the footsteps of her father who he identified as a hoodlum in Kolonnawa, as she attempted to resolve disputes among mobs.
He mentioned that late Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra was a reputed hoodlum who settled disputes among people in Kolonnawa.
It looks like the daughter has taken up the same task of solving people’s issues,” he said.
Commenting on the recent incident where a man was allegedly abducted by six supporters of Ms. Premachandra, he said no one could take the law into their own hands.
Prof. Karunaratne, a key activist of President Maithripala Sirisena’s election campaign, pointed out that it was solely the police who had the authority to take action against illegal activities. We wonder if this government is too practicing the previous government’s habit of abducting people. We have a police department to deal with crimes, and today the department is more independent than what it was in the past,” he told a news conference. – See more at: http://www.dailymirror.lk/100721/is-hirunika-following-her-father-s-footsteps#sthash.dycPNsuO.dpuf

Although I rarely agree with Bahu, I certainly give him props for pointing out the obvious.
Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra was a notorious thug(calling him a hoodlum is too kind) who got into a gun battle with another thug. Both thugs got shot, one thug died. We all know the story.
Bahu has to be embarrassed because of this and other incidents of “Yahapalanaya”. A year later, with all the promises, nothing has changed much.
As far as the abduction goes, Hirunika has clearly contradicted herself. First, she says she intervened to solve a family issue, then claims she was not in her office. It has been noted that the Police have been heavily pressurized not to arrest her. Eventually, nothing will come out of it. Hirunika will claim to have saved a family. The victim will withdraw the complaint after either being threatened or being paid off. The abduction will be called a meeting. MS, RW, Mangala, Bahu, CBK and the rest will claim that this was a victory for “Yahapalanaya” and justice was served for the common man. They will compare everything to the previous government and how wonderful they are and how we have evolved as a nationa and Blah, Blah, Blah….. l.
I, for one, truly believe that we are getting what we deserve.
