Will Wimal Weerawansa be the first political murder of Yahapalanaya regime?

I am neither a lawyer nor a politician. I don’t belong to any political party either. Wimal is also neither a political enemy or a friend of mine. I have never met him or spoken to him on any day. I am only a concerned citizen who deeply worried about the life of this human being. I do not know whether he is a political prisoner or a convict to be put behind bars. As I see he is only a suspect of misappropriation of government vehicles. If someone decides to remand him for that, and not allow even bail, as a layman I think, then today almost all the Mpp should be behind bars. Because there is no politician in this country who has not misused government vehicles. Just look at the illicit, immoral and uncivilized plunder of billions of tax payers money under the Duty free vehicles from the day it was started. At least why the hell the YAhapalanaya Government as they call it doesn’t stop this highway robbery and recover the losses vale and on those vehicles and why don’t they stop enormous extravagance and perks of all sorts given to politicians for nothing. Just tell me what the service these fellows are doing to the country or the people other that fattening their own coffers and luxuries.
I have nothing against punishing anybody for misusing or misappropriating public property or abuse of authority. Bu it should be done in a more civilized manner. Justice must be done .There is no quarrel over it. But it must not only be done but as the say goes it must also seems to be done. In this case it appears it is not so.
Another question is as to why only this man is treated in this special way. Why is the Government not taking action even to question and arrest people who are involved in bigger frauds where there is enough evidence. Take for instance the case of Arjuna Mahendran Ex Governor CB. It is not few millions ,but hundreds and thousands of billions as the papers say. The public impression is the PM is protecting him. Isn’t that political duplicity and hypocrisy. Everybody talks about this .But no one take any action. Why is the million dollar question?
This man is only an accused. Under our law no one can be punished without proving his guilt with evidence until guilt is proved beyond all reasonable doubts, everyone is treated innocent. There is only a charge against this man. It is not yet taken up for serious trial either.
I am no layer a politician or a n enemy of Wimal. Also not a fried, I have never met him in my life or spoken to him even on a phone Therefore unlike political enemies or politicians who benefit by keeping him behind bars or even by killing him I not have an ax to grind, with him.
He is only asking for bail. I don’t think he has a grouse for taking action against him. So my question is why can’t be given bail when people with more serious charges are also given that facility.
This unfortunate situation raises few serious questions
Is there a hidden reason and a powerful political hand behind it. The general impression seems to be yes.
Majority think the PM Ranil is safeguarding him It may not be so. But certainly it is aa serious problem of good governance .
How independent are our courts in this selective discharge of justice.
If that is so then it is a very serious Other than the CB scam there are many more cases where obviously action is either not taken or deliberately delayed. Isn’t it hat this same predicament can befall on any and all who do not cooperate with the Government in power or who is apotential threat to the Government.
I am also not a person who is benefitted from his fiery speeches But only a man who is deeply concerned about the life of another useful man at least to some.
One must put himself in that position. Then only you will feel it.
Why doesn’t the government at least question and arrest people who have committed greater rand graver crimes like treason and those violating the 6th Amendment and asking for a separate State and conspire with foreign government to topple the Government, foreign agencies, for example men like Wigneswaran.
Everyone knows that the Yahpalanaya Government is angry with Wimal for going against them. Those who try to justify his not being given bail are his political enemies. This becomes more that evident when Anura Kumar Disanayaka says ‘Suffer the consequences now’ This is inhuman and savageous.
Overall in my view Wimal Weerawansa dram clearly shows the depth in to what the political culture in this country has fallen and to what extent it has deteriorated in recent byears.
It is high time that the patriotic and wiser men take over the sacred duty of Governance in to their hands.
Whatever said and done Mr President there is no excuse and escape for you and you Government if this man dies in prison for not giving bail.

I completely agree with Sudath on the UNJUST and UNFAIR imprisonment of Wimal Weerawansa!
While others more directly responsible for the misuse of automobiles that Wimal is accused of remain FREE without prosecution, presumably because they are now allied with the Yamapalanaya, Wimal is HUNTED DOWN!
Furthermore, why us Wimal not granted BAIL immediately? Normally, BAIL is imposed when there is a HIGH RISK OF FLIGHT and non-appearance in court proceedings. With Wimal, that us clearly not the case. So, WHY…OH, WHY is BAIL being DENIED?
Clearly we KNOW THE ABSWER: it is to SILENCE THE PATRIOTIC VOICE of this COMPELLING and PERSUASIVE SPEAKER who is CRITICAL of all the activities of the Yamapalanaya!
The Yamapalanaya that came to power to restore ” democracy and good governance” is now violating both of those ideals, and has become laughably CORRUPT usurping the LAW of the LAND to remain in power holding the citizens CAPTIVE!

Both Ranil and Sirisena are ruthless politicians and Wimal should know that both of them are trying their best to remove him from Sri Lankan politics. Being a leftist revolutionist, Wimal should have fought it out in the Courts rather than putting his life at the mercy of his opponents.

I remember how he treated one of the long time commentators, Stanley Perera of this site when WW was the minister; it was very shameful. I was one time employee of State Engineering Corporation where many engineers who passed out from SL universities were employed. This seventh grade man completely ruined that institution thanks to MR who rewarded him for his skills in speaking to the gallery and convincing the sinhala modayas. I once felt ashamed to walk under this thief’s portrait that was hung at the entrance to ICTAD.
However I feel the GOSL is doing witch hunting by allowing RW to do as he pleases with judiciary and the prez is responsible for that; if not WW should have been arrested a long time ago.

It is quite right for every patriotic Sri Lankan to blame our gutless, spineless, brainless traitor president and the Batalander murderer PM for Wimal’s plight. This crooked Horapalanaya government knows very well outspoken and fearless Wimal is the biggest threat to it and want him to perish.
If Mahinda is in this situation, it would have been Wimal who would have fought fearlessly to defend and release him. But what is Mahinda doing to save Wimal from this precarious situation? If unfortunately the government’s wishes come true and Wimal is murdered in this manner, who is going to save Mahinda when he in this situation?
Now it is up to the hundreds of thousands of citizens who voted for Wimal to take some action to save Wimal if Mahinda and the JO is not capable or willing to do so.

This government has created a template for victimizing opposition MPs and using coercion to garner parliamentary support for their bills. The next government must follow this template. It can be used to reverse all constitution changes and anti-Sri Lanka laws. It can also be used to silence promising UNP MPs.
Sadly, this is the name of the game and the others must play it too when in power. Otherwise it causes them a comparative disadvantage. Wimal’s every health issue and harassment must be documented and retained so that these will be useful ammunition against a future UNP complaint on political victimisation.

After the visit of powerful people to the country and his own recent foreign trips, MS says he has powerful backers or friends. Then why worry, keep a straight spine, wack Vigy and sack PM. He can then let WW go and renegotiate Hambanthota on favourable terms to SL. But I know he is only addressing the gallery, just like what WW does.

Fine article Sudath. VERY UNREASONABLE VERDICT. It’s shame to treat people in two different ways in this country. How about that Kollonnawa highway kidnap by Channdi Hiruni and her gangsters? How about Champaka’s Kotte road accident? You cannot call this bunch of idiots Yahapalanaya. Nobody knows who’s governing this country?
Wimal is a very popular politician and this achcharu government knows he is a threat as he is a fiery speaker in the house as well as outside. Yamaballo afraid of this simple man for his brave approach on important issues concerns our Motherland. The way this unpredictable government runs they will not have a place to hide when the time comes. Sira and Ranil both are bogus and liars. They waste time by acting and lying in two different ways to hoodwink the people in this country. I hope nothing bad will happen to Wimal and let’s pray for his recovery soon and down with Yamapalanaya.

Actually this is the time for MS to take control of his government. He cannot go on this journey if he wants to do something for his motherland (and also if he wants to get re-elected) with a man acting like a guttersnipe in and outside parliament.
If he cannot get a good deal without selling our soul to China he should approach US provided they help us the same way they did to S.Korea.
I have been reading a book titled “What to do when machines do every thing”. According to the authors the world has entered the fourth industrial revolution in 2015 with the help of AI. And in future Data is going to be better than oil and the group known as FANG (Facebook, Amason, NetFlix and Google) are making fortunes without having any material or tangible product with them. There is a whole chapter explaining that. Trump can have a deal with MS to develop technology in SL in exchange for some facilities in Hambanthota.
Inspite of the damages done to our country by ‘Rathu Sahodarayas’ including WW, we have been lucky to have some visionaries like CWW Kannangara, DS, SWRD, Lalith Athulathmudali et al. I consider Kingsley T Wickemaratne also in the same category. Unlike WW who ruined SEC he set up the Malabe SLIIT which is now educating over 7000 students on IT at a time. I have come across top class software engineers who have graduated from it and now working overseas. So we will not lag behind in this fourth Industrial revolution compared to even the west if we get some help (from MS’s friends) to retain them in SL.
I appeal to our patriots not to waste too much time on undeserving politicos.

In fact the activities of JVP should also be investigated. They now know that whatever they do they can only get about five seats. If not why should AK acquire a house in Ireland from supposedly ill gotten money. This is enough to put him in jail just like what they did to WW. This is perhaps for a future government.
Our people are so diverse in their appearance as well as their views. We even have people who were taken as slaves from India over a thousand years ago but now Sinhalized. There is one village close to ours where they lived as a separate set of people.
So I wont be dithered by comments like above. Will continue to give useful comments which I think are timely. It was in 1997 that I first wrote to Ceylon Daily News explaining the importance of IT education in SL. Many from even rural areas commented on it favourably and the GOSL at that time took initiative. Some guys here who could not stomach it uttered various comments. I remember it was the minister KT Wickemaratne who said publicly in meetings that we need to produce Firmware engineers to go to places like Japan. And immediately he took initiative with the help of Hon. Richard Pathirana to start Malabe on a land of 25 acres. Thanks to them (and CBK) we have made lot of headway and IT is our no. 5 exchange earner. There is a big debate at the moment in the west why Technocrats should be the politicians.
I am writing all these details here so that our people will not think of wasting their votes again on these so called socialists.

That is TRUE.
WW left the JVP in disgust in 2008 because it has become an ENDIAN-US cat’s paw.
Even the JVP leader SOMAWANSA left it for the same reason!!
WW always stood for SL (I don’t much care how he treated individuals) and he must be SAVED.
JVP will be WIPED OUT at the next election. NO ONE support it now. JVP could NOT get enough numbers for its protests!! That shows JVP is DEAD. Even if JVP did a protest, their SLOGANS are in ENGLISH!! Because they want their Endian and US FINANCIERS to see they are doing something.

Latest is that though Wimal broke his fast due to the plea from the Buddhist priests, he is still NOT granted bail.
In Lanka why are Lanka’s PATRIOTS made to suffer so much, when NON-PATRIOTIC, pocket stuffing, rotten to the core, and useless to humanity folk are carousing around, and the Law turns a blind eye to them ?
