This is an excellent observation by Gotabaya. This should be the economic strategy of Sri Lanka. State can do business for profit and must do along with the private sector. Singapore, China, modern Vietnam, South Korea and Malaysia are examples of how state enterprises have successfully and profitably run.
In his time, Gotabaya started some of these including Avente Guarde, Lanka Logistics, Rakna Lanka, Thalsewana and other military managed resorts and a number of others. They were profitable.
The key is profit. Otherwise they become worse burdens.

This government is doing what India orders them to do. Except one or two things to show people that they are independent of India.
