Ready to help govt with current situation – MR

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa says that they are prepared to support the government to control the problematic situation currently prevailing in the country and restore normalcy.
He made these comments during a press conference held at his residence in Colombo last evening (7), flanked by several MPs of the Joint Opposition.
Rajapaksa stated that everyone should work together in the time of need in order to ensure peace in the country.

නීතිය හා සාමය කැබිනට් අමාත්‍යවරයා ලෙස රාජ්‍ය පරිපාලන සහ කළමනාකරණ අමාත්‍ය රංජිත් මද්දුමබණ්ඩාර දිවුරුම්දී ඇත. අද (08) පෙරවරුවේ ජනාධිපති නිල නිවසේදී මෙම දිවුරුම්දීම සිදුවූ බව ජනාධිපති මාධ්‍ය අංශය සඳහන් කරයි. ඔහුට මෙම අමාත්‍ය පදවිය හිමිවී ඇත්තේ ඔහු මෙතෙක් දැරූ රාජ්‍ය පරිපාලන හා කළමනාකරණ අමාත්‍ය පදවියට අමතරවය.
මේ අවස්ථාවට සඳහා අග‍්‍රාමාත්‍ය රනිල් වික්රමසිංහ සහ ජනාධිපති ලේකම් ඔස්ටින් ප‍්‍රනාන්දු ද එක්ව ඇත. පසුගිය දා සිදු කළ කැබිනට් සංශෝධනයේ දී නීතිය හා සාමය පිළිබඳ අමාත්‍ය ධුරය තාවකාලිකව රනිල් වික්රමසිංහ මහතා වෙත භාරදෙනු ලැබුවා.
මීට පෙර නීතිය හා සාමය අමාත්‍යංශය සරත් ෆොන්සේකා මහතාට පැවරීමට තීරණය කිරීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් මහින්ද පාර්ශ්වය දැඩි සේ කලබලයට පත්වු අතර එම තීරණය කණපිට හැරවීම සඳහා ඔවුන් දැඩි උත්සාහයක් ගන්නා ලදි.
පසුගියදා ජනාධිපතිවරයා හා ෆොන්සේකා මහතා අතර පැවති සාකච්ජා අනුව නීතිය හා සාමය කැබිනට් අමාත්‍යවරයා ලෙස ෆීල්ඩ් මාර්ෂල් සරත් ෆොන්සේකා මහතා දිවුරුම් දීමට නියමිත ව සිටියේය. නමුත් ඊට පසුව ජනපති මෛත්‍රිපාල සිරිසේන මහතා සහ මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මහතා අතර විශේෂ හමුවීමක් පැවති අතර එහිදී නීතිය හා සාමය අමාත්‍යංශය සරත් ෆොන්සේකා හට කිසිසේත්ම ලබානොදෙන ලෙස මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මහතා එක හෙළාම බගෑපත්වෙමින් ජනාධිපති මෛත්‍රිපාල සිරිසේන මහතාගෙන් ඉල්ලා සිටින ලදි.
“අපි ඕන සහයෝගයක් දෙන්නම්, රනිල්ව අගමැති තනතුරරේ තියාගෙන එජාපයත් සමග ඔබතුමා මේ විදිහටම කරගෙන යන්න. අපි කිසිම විදිහකින් බාධා කරන්නෙ නෑ. හැබැයි එකම ඉල්ලීම නීතිය හා සාමය, ෆොන්සේකාට නම් දෙන්න එපා. දුන්නොත් සේරම වැඩ අවුල් වෙනවා.” යැයි එහිදී මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ පවසා තිබුණි.

When MR became president in 2005, SF was about to retire from the army. It was on the insistence of GR, Secretary of Defence under MR, that SF was given the post of army commander. Later he caught a severe bout of Potomac fever (This was natural in the case of SF, for, its proper name is Potomac Horse Fever.). He was made to challenge his former boss by his later handlers at the 2010 presidential election and suffered a humiliating defeat. Subsequently, SF was sent to jail not because he challenged MR, but because he was found guilty of an offence by a court of law.
The general public were more agitated than the Rajapaksas when it was announced that he was going to be appointed to that portfolio.
