Rajapaksa camp is suffering division. Dayan, Vasu, Welgama and Prasanna opting out of Gotabaya campaign.
Mahinda knows Gotabaya cannot win even the number of Tamil and Muslim votes he won. This must be worrying him. Darshana Handungoda has an interesting take. He speculates that Shiranthi will be the SLPP presidential candidate to save all sides. Mahinda is also worried about Namal’s future if any of his brothers become president. He is right on that. Suppose Gotabaya/Basil/Chamal wins in 2019 and wins again in 2024. Then Namal will be out of power until 2029. Then it is very unlikely people will want another Rajapaksa. They will very desperately want change and that is the end of Namal. If Gotabaya/Basil/Chamal loses in 2024, then all Rajapaksas are out even earlier.
However, Shiranthi is a very bad choice as she cannot win.
If Gotabaya is not contesting, SLPP must field Sarath Weerasekera or at the very least Ayoma Rajapaksa. She is a clean, simple and down to earth lady. She can even win minority women votes. Corruption charges won’t stick. Certainly violence and malpractices allegations cannot be made. A worthy person to hold executive powers. I’m sure she was suggested by someone years ago in a forum.

We should not worry about individuals.
I know Wasu has been an Indian sucker from the time he was MP for Kiriella.
