Already we have seen violence erupting due this crisis. On Sunday there were two deaths. At the same time some media institutions have been illegally taken over. Some people have been prevented from going to their jobs. This has led to a huge problem for the country.” Jayasuriya said.

A severe political crisis erupted in Sri Lanka since last Friday when President Maithripala Sirisena sacked the Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe and appointed former President Mahinda Rajapakse to the post.

Wickremesinghe said the move was illegal and has since then, called for Parliament to be summoned immediately to prove his majority.

Last Saturday, President Sirisena prorogued Parliament till Nov 16 following which there have been increasing calls for Parliament to summon to solve the ensuing political crisis.
