The General Secretary of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Dayasiri Jayasekara says the party will render its support for presidential hopeful Gotabaya Rajapaksa, not Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.
He stated this speaking to the media today (08) following the party’s discussions chaired by President Maithripala Sirisena concerning the upcoming Presidential Election.
The discussions were held at the Presidential Secretariat this morning to talk over which candidate the SLFP would be supporting in the election.
Another discussion took place this evening at the official residence of the General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA).
Following the discussion, he said the President would be announcing the SLFP’s final decision tomorrow (09).Disclaimer: All the comments will be moderated by the AD editorial. Just bury the SLFP. It is dead.
SLFP has been unable to contest the presidential election – a sure sign of its irrelevance.
Some SLFPers are after ministries as one openly decalred. We must thank his honesty.
But that is not going to happen. Number of ministries have been restricted to 30 (unless a national government is created with the UNP). Out of the 30 ministries, Rajapaksas will get defence, finance, Buddha Sasana and public administration. Thondaman, Hakeem, Bathurdeen and Devananda must be given a ministry each. That leaves only 20 odd ministries to be shared between all. Not even all hardcore SLPP MPs will get ministries. SLFP MPs have no chance.

If the SLFPers do no support Pohottuwa, then Pohottuwa has the right to contest every election ward separately. It is not strange the ‘the funny fellows’ still left in the SLFP cannot understand the predicament they are in. This, of course, is subject to various MOUs they will sign with the Pohottuwa and with Gotabhaya. In due course they will not be worth the paper these MOUs are written on.
At the Presidential Election, the people will decide on their validity!
Despite the nostalgia some still have for the SLFP, there is no way it can be resurrected from the hole Choura Ragina and Aappaya have thrown them into.
SLFP RIP!
