Permission will not be granted for mass gatherings for two weeks due to the risks of coronavirus (Covid-19) in the country, says the Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi.
She made this announcement during a special media briefing at the Department of Government Information today (14).
Minister Wanniarachchi stated that this decision was taken as a precautionary measure since the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus (Covid-19) in Sri Lanka has now risen to a total of seven.
She requested the public to avoid places where a large number of people gather and to postpone private events.
Any individuals, who arrive in the island from any country other than the ones on which a travel ban imposed yesterday, are urged to self-quarantine at their respective residences, she further stated.
Thus far, the confirmed cases of coronavirus in Sri Lanka were identified as individuals who arrived from foreign countries, the health minister noted.
