Today, we commemorate one of the most significant milestones in Sri Lankan history, where 11 years ago we witnessed an end to the constant fear of death, terror and bloodshed. The courage of our brave and heroic soldiers ended the bloodshed that soaked our soil for decades. Thousands sacrificed their lives to end the terror that ravaged our land for over three decades. Today, once again, our brave war heroes have joined hands with the frontline health care professionals to heal our nation that’s grappling with the COVID-19 global pandemic. Today, I remember our war heroes with gratitude and utmost respect. They saved our nation from decades of terror in the past and is today working tirelessly to protect us and save our lives from a global pandemic. As we look to the past to appreciate and remember with gratitude the sacrifices made by our war heroes and their beloved families, I also look towards the future to join hands to re-build a prosperous nation together with you.
මිට වසර 11 කට පෙර අද වැනි දිනයක ශ්‍රී ලංකාව අභිමානවත් දේශයක් ලෙස ජයග්‍රාහී සන්ධිස්ථානයක් පසු කළේය. එනම් ශ්‍රී ලංකාවාසී සැවොම මරණය නමැති භීතියෙන් ඇලලී ගිය තිස් අවුරුදු සාපලත් යුද්ධය අභීත විරෝධාර රණවිරුවන් විසින් අවසන් කිරීමය. අපගේ විරෝධාර රණවිරුවන් දහස් ගණනින් සිය ජිවිත පුජා කරමින් මව්බිම ලෙයින් තෙත් කළ යුද්ධයට තිත තැබුවේ සිය නිර්භීත කම හා දක්ෂකම ලොවටම විදහා පාමින්ය. එදා සමස්ත ශ්‍රී ලංකාවාසීන්ට අභය දානය ලබා දුන් විරෝධාර රණවිරුවන් අද සුව විරුවන් සමග එක්වෙමින් කොරෝනා වෛරසයෙන් රට මුදා ගැනීමේ මෙහෙයුම සාර්ථකව නිම කරමින් පවතින්නේ ලොවම මවිත කරවමිනි. තිස් අවුරුදු සාපලත් යුද්ධයෙන් රට මුදා ගැනීමට සිය දිවි කැප කළ විරෝධාර රණවිරුවන් අභිමානයෙන් යුතුව මා සිහි කරන අතරවාරයේම අද කොරෝනා වෛරසයෙන් රට මුදා ගැනීමේ මෙහෙයුමට උරදී ඇති සියලුම රණවිරුවන්ට මා ස්තුතිවන්ත වන අතර අනාගතයේ සෞභාග්‍යමත් ශ්‍රී ලංකාවක් බිහි කිරීමට ඔබගේ දායකත්වය රටක් ලෙස අපි සැම අපේක්ෂා කරන්නෙමු.இலங்கையின் வரலாற்றில் குறிப்பிடத்தக்க ஒரு நிகழ்வை நாம் இன்று நினைவுகூர்கிறோம். 11 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னர், தொடர்ச்சியாக இருந்த மரணபயத்திற்கு, இலங்கையர்கள் ஒரு உடனடி முடிவைக்கண்டனர். நமது ஆயிரக்கணக்கான வீர வீராங்கனைகள் எமது மண்ணில் நடந்தேறிய கொடிய யுத்தத்தை முடிவுக்குக் கொண்டுவர தமது இன்னுயிரையும் தியாகம் செய்து தங்கள் தைரியத்தையும் துணிச்சலையும் உலகிற்குக் காட்டினார்கள். இன்று, எங்களின் அதே துணிச்சல் மிகுந்த மாவீரர்கள் COVID-19 தொற்றுநோய்க்கெதிரான நடவடிக்கைகளில் சுகாதார நிபுணர்களுடன் நமக்கு முன்னே நின்று செயற்படுகிறார்கள்.இன்றைய நாளில் தசாப்த கால பயங்கரவாதத்தின் பிடியில் நின்று எம்மை மீட்டு இன்றும் ஓய்வில்லாமல் உலகளாவிய தொற்றுநோய்க்காலத்தின் மத்தியிலும் எமக்காக சேவையாற்றும் எமது மாவீரர்களை மிகுந்த மரியாதையோடு நினைவுகூருகிறேன். எமது உயிர்த்தியாகம் செய்த வீர, வீராங்கனைகள் மற்றும் அவர்களின் அன்புக்குரியவர்களின் தியாகங்களை நினைவுகூரும் அதே வேளையில் உங்களுடன் இணைந்து ஒரு வளமான தேசத்தை மீண்டும் கட்டியெழுப்புவதற்கு நான் எதிர்பார்க்கின்றேன்.Today, we commemorate one of the most significant milestones in Sri Lankan history, where 11 years ago we witnessed an end to the constant fear of death, terror and bloodshed.
