The calamity of Gotabhaya’s administration is the inclusion of some of the dysfunctional old guard from Mahinda R’s previous administration. These disasters that were waiting to happen have happened. Now it is not too late to correct some of the mistakes and move on. Pavithra Devi is one such. She is a pure and simple selfish politician – “Always Posing Pavpthra” to catch the headlines being so naiive and ignorant whether the publicity she so crave is good or bad for her politics.
This does not mean that the replacement is going to be better. It is time that Sri Lanka make and effort to bring in learned professionals to man at least the important ministries such as health, education, defence, foreign affairs, agriculture, power and energy etc. portfolios. On top of all this he is saddled with a defunct SLAS – the Sri Lanka Administration Service, most of them by now in the pay of outside forces inimical for existence of Sri Lanka as a unitary state.
The other problem of Gotabhaya’s is his inability to lead from the front. His power is derived directly from the people and it is his job first and foremost to give leadership. In other countries leaders are seen addressing their nations much more frequently. This way they are able to connect with the people much more positively and on an ongoing basis. At the moment every dick tom and harry in the government that includes the politicians and government servants are doing this work by giving in their private opinion by passing the collective responsibility they have to work as a team.
The President cannot do all this by hiding inside the Presidential Secretariat and trying to control the details with little knowledge of the big picture! It won’t too long before people begin to think that he is losing the handle on governance.

During Mahinda’s two terms as the president, he appointed two old men as the PMs who were not a threat to him. That lead to his downfall as MY3 who was frustrated left the government and became the president. That bought the failed Yahapalanaya which took the country backwards by several years. Mahinda dug his own grave and Gota should learn a lesson from that. If Mahinda was vice and not selfish he could have another term as president and most of his big development plans including the port city would have been completed and we would have been better prepared to face the Covid 19 pandemic.
