Former President Maithripala Sirisena says that it is not appropriate to build a walking lane around the Parakrama Samudraya.
Meanwhile, it is reported that several places in the Parakrama Samudraya have been eroded due to the removal of stones for the construction of the walkway.
Our correspondent in the area stated that there is a severe erosion near the main sluice of the Parakrama Samudraya.
The Department of Irrigation has taken steps to remove several large stones foriming the Ralapanawa in the Parakrama Samudraya to construct a walking lane.
However, the construction work has been suspended due to protests.
Former President Maithripala Sirisena responded to questions raised by journalists regarding the walking lane after attending a blood donation drive at the Mayurapada Temple in Pelawatta today to coincide with the anniversary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
