Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage stated that the government is ready to purchase a kilo of paddy from organic farmers at Rs. 100 each.

Meanwhile, farmers in some parts of the country have organized protests demanding fertilizer in the wake of the commencement of their cultivation activities in anticipation of fertilizer.

A member of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya staged a protest in front of the Hanguranketha Pradeshiya Sabha against the fertilizer crisis and the increase in commodities.

Meanwhile, representatives of several bhikku organizations met Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage at the Ministry of Agriculture this morning to inquire about the fertilizer issue.

General Secretary of the New Sinhala Ravaya Organization Ven. Magalkande Sudaththa Thera, General Secretary of the Ravana Balaya Organization Ven. Ittekande Saddhatissa Thera and General Secretary of the Sinhala Organization Ven. Madille Pannaloka Thera and several others were present at the occasion. Later the delegation also met State Minister Shashindra Rajapaksa.

Meanwhile, the second consignment of nano nitrogen liquid fertilizer to be imported to Sri Lanka is to be brought to the island by air today.
